This thesis starts with the confirmation of existence of an ample debate involving the republicanism theme. Although this tradition is approached from several poins-of-view and is not characterized by a single group of ideas, we can detach Philip Pettit as the central figural for this republican revival. According to Pettit, the republicanism is able to give a new focus to the traditional distinction between positive and negative freedom, leaving space for a third freedom conception: freedom as non-domination. Understanding freedom as non-domination and putting this conception as the plank for the Republican state, Pettit starts to explore the democracy from the angle of contestability and tracks the political participation that meets this way to see democracy. The main goal of this work is to understand what is the relationship between republican freedom and political participation in Philip Pettit´s political theory

Motion and mobility in the realist novels of Philip K Dick
This essay explores the ways that ideas of motion and mobility support readings of Philip K Dick's early novels that take full account of the changing geographical context. They are set during a period of rapid suburban expansion, the building of the interstate and the spread of automobility through car ownership, and their characters frequently exist in a state between continuity through conformity and the potential for change. The open ended forms of the novels reflect a world around Dick that was still under construction, and where alternative realities can be glimpsed between incomplete materialities
