"Gestures: Language - Genre – Citation"
In many ways, gestures can be thought of as ‘travelling concepts’ (M. Bal): they can be found at the
crossroads of different disciplines, traditions and media and have influenced art, literature and
performance since classical times. This tryptich presentation will explore the conceptual diversity of
gestures, from the macro level of language over different gestural genres to the micro level of
citationality.
American novelist Carole Maso once referred to language as “being gesture”. This statement appears
evident in a post-Saussurian age which refutes the idea that absolute referentiality might be possible
in language. Yet one environment where this idea quite easily recedes into the background is that of
the archive. If language is indeed gesture, can one not presume that there exists an ultimate meaning
which has been gestured towards? In this first part of the presentation, Hannah Van Hove (Vrije
Universiteit Brussel/Open Universiteit) will present a critical-creative reflection which explores the
idea of language as gesture in the context of the archive.
In the history of literature and performance, gestures played a central role in the (re)presentation of
body language and corporeality, in 'gestural' genres and practices such as pantomime, tableau vivant
and dance, as well as in theoretical treatises on body language and communication. The second part
of this presentation, delivered by Mathias Meert (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) focuses on several genres
and genre constellations that rely on gesturality and experiment with the codification of textual,
theatrical and bodily gestures.
The inclusion of citations in a text implies gesturality: plucking someone else’s work, folding it into
one’s own, picking it apart - citations require rather specific and precise movements of textual
bodies. These movements are work, and demonstrate an ability to affect both the content and the
surface of a text. Therefore, citations are not only gestural, but performative. This part of the
triptych, delivered by Maria Gil Ulldemolins (Universiteit Hasselt), will be a creative-critical
exploration of such citational affects and affordances

Spectrally Selective PANI/ITO Nanocomposite Electrodes for Dual Band Dynamic Windows
No full textChromogenic materials are able to change their optical properties as a response to an external stimulus, such as light irradiation (photochromic materials), temperature variation (thermochromic materials) or electric potential (electrochromic materials).
Glazing employing electrochromic materials can change their optical characteristics of transparency and absorption of solar radiation according to users’ needs by simultaneously reducing visible light and NIR transmission through the window. However, spectral selectivity has been becoming a key requirement in smart dynamic windows as it permits maximizing both visual and thermal comfort while minimizing energy consumption for heating, cooling, and lighting [1].
Herein, a dual band electrochromic system is presented, which consists of an engineered nanocomposite electrode capable of advantageously combining the broad band plasmonic response of nanocrystalline indium-tin-oxide (ITO) with high optical contrast of polyaniline (PANI). Their synergistical spectroelectrochemical features make possible the implementation of a four-state tunable electrochromic system (here referred to as “plasmochromic”), which permits selectively regulating optical transmittance in the visible and near-infrared range and exhibits excellent spectral selectivity across a potentials window of only 1.2 V, with a visible light vs. solar transmittance ratio tunable from 0.67 to 1.61.
Electrochemical and spectroscopic features of the two constituting components (i.e., ITO nanocrystals and PANI) will be discussed, together with the study of how their single characteristics symbiotically combine each other in defining the performance of the resulting hybrid plasmochromic electrodes. Finally, a set of dual-band EC devices offering an excellent VIS/NIR spectral selectivity within a relatively small electrochemical window will be presented, discussing their main key features [2].

“VERDES MATAS A TE CIRCUNDAR”: ASPECTOS HISTÓRICOS E SOCIOAMBIENTAIS DA INDÚSTRIA MADEIREIRA
No full textTCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Curso de História.A atual configuração sócio-espacial do município de Anita Garibaldi (SC) resulta de fatores historicamente construídos. Até o final do século XIX a região manteve-se com uma ocupação esparsa, habitada por criadores de animais, agricultores de subsistência e ocasionalmente por silvícolas. O processo de colonização iniciado em 1900 com italianos e seus descentes representou uma grande transformação para o local, intensificando sobremaneira os impactos na vegetação nativa da Floresta Estacional Decidual (FED) e da Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM) – floresta com araucárias. Este trabalho analisa os aspectos históricos e socioambientais da indústria madeireira no município de Anita Garibaldi no século XX. As diversas fontes mobilizadas nesta pesquisa foram analisadas por meio do viés teórico-metodológico da História Ambiental, sendo: documentos, relatórios de governo, legislações, periódicos, mapas, fotografias, entrevistas, entre outros devidamente referenciados. A relevância social e científica deste trabalho justifica-se, pois o município ainda sente os impactos negativos do um processo de extração vegetal que pouco considerou os trabalhadores em sua dignidade humana e a floresta em sua vital importância ecológica. Desta maneira, conhecer os aspectos históricos da devastação da floresta de araucárias e espécies de lei nos permite reconhecer a necessidade de uma interação mais sustentável com a natureza, no intento de que a reflexão provoque a sua valorização e preservação.L'attuale configurazione socio-spaziale della città di Anita Garibaldi (SC) deriva da fattori storicamente costruiti. Fino alla fine del XIX secolo la regione è stata mantenuta con un'occupazione sparsa, abitata da allevatori, agricoltori di sussistenza e, occasionalmente, da indigeni. Il processo di colonizzazione iniziato nel 1900 con italiani e loro discendenti ha rappresentato una grande transformazione per il locale, intensificando notevolmente gli impatti sulla vegetazione nativa della Foresta di Latifoglie (FES) e Araucaria Forest (UFM) - foresta con araucaria. Questo lavoro analizza gli aspetti storici e ambientali del settore del legno nella città di Anita Garibaldi nel ventesimo secolo. Le varie fonti mobilitati in questa ricerca sono stati analizzati per mezzo di inclinazione teorico-metodologico della storia ambientale, essendo: documenti, rapporti governativi, leggi, giornali, mappe, fotografie, interviste e altri documenti correttamente denominati. La rilevanza sociale e scientifica di questo lavoro è giustificata perché nella contea si sentono ancora gli effetti negativi di un processo di estrazione vegetale che ha preso poco conto dei lavoratori nella loro dignità umana e la foresta nella loro importanza ecologica fondamentale. Così, conoscere gli aspetti storici della devastazione della foresta di araucaria e di "specie di diritto" ci permette riconoscere la necessità di un'interazione più sostenibile con la natura, con l'intento che la riflessione consenta il suo apprezzamento e conservazione

Aquí intentaré mostrar que, sin embargo, una de sus hipótesis fundamentales no es una hipótesis empírica y que otras dos hipótesis no menos fundamentales son incompatibles con la evidencia lingüística y con la evidencia neurológica.Generative linguistics is one the most widespread and prestigious theories of language. Tropical ginsberg: the resonance of Allen Ginsberg on the Tropicália

The corpora are the poems "Howl" (1956), "America" (1956), "Supermarket in California" (1955), "Sunflower Sutra" (1955), "Song" (1954), and "Wild Orphan" (1952), written by Allen Ginsberg, and the songs "Batmacumba" (1968), composed by Caetano Veloso, and Gilberto Gil, "Baby" (1968), composed by Caetano Veloso, "Geléia Geral" (1968), composed by Gilberto Gil and Torquato Neto, "Alegria, Alegria" (1967), composed by Caetano Veloso, and "Domingo no Parque" (1967), composed by Gilberto Gil. The main theoretical and critical parameters of this research include: Mikhail Bakhtin and his reflections on intertextuality; James J. Farrell, who believes that the American counterculture began with the Beats; Claudio Willer, who stresses the importance of Allen Ginsberg to the Beat movement, as well as to the birth of the American counterculture; Christopher Dunn, who emphasizes the historical, social, and political relevance of the Tropicália; and Celso Favaretto, who discusses in depth the complexity of most of the Tropicália songs. Based on such parameters, this research suggests that the life and work of Allen Ginsberg had great resonance over the creation of the Tropicália.Através de uma relação dialógica entre poesia e letras de música e o contexto sócio-político que circundava tais textos, este estudo discute a ressonância que o poeta Norte Americano, Allen Ginsberg, teve sobre o movimento musical Brasileiro, a Tropicália. A corpora são os poemas "Howl" (1956), "America" (1956), "Supermarket in California" (1955), "Sunflower Sutra" (1955), "Song" (1954), e "Wild Orphan" (1952), escritos por Allen Ginsberg, e as músicas "Batmacumba" (1968), composta por Caetano Veloso, e Gilberto Gil, "Baby" (1968), composta por Caetano Veloso, "Geléia Geral" (1968), composta por Gilberto Gil e Torquato Neto, "Alegria, Alegria" (1967), composta por Caetano Veloso, e "Domingo no Parque" (1967), composta por Gilberto Gil. As máscaras modernistas: Adalgisa Nery e Maria Martins na vanguarda brasileira

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura.Certa tradição analisa as obras do modernismo brasileiro recorrendo à institucionalização nacionalista do movimento e pautando-se, muitas vezes, numa concepção materialista da história. Afora isso, esse olhar crítico é mediado pela percepção da forma como matéria a ser analisada, o que pressupõe um parâmetro que, na literatura brasileira, estaria na Semana de Arte Moderna. Este trabalho se propõe a focar duas autoras modernistas não-canônicas: Maria Martins (1890-1973) e Adalgisa Nery (1905-1980). Supõe-se que ambas as autoras passaram incólumes pelo movimento por adotarem uma concepção nietzscheana de tempo, circular. Deuses Malditos I (1965), biografia de Nietzsche escrita por Maria Martins e A imaginária (1959), romance autobiográfico de Adalgisa Nery, são analisados a partir da tese de que a biografia e a autobiografia são máscaras textuais. A máscara é matéria que revela pelo disfarce, que preenche os vazios diversos - a ausência de Maria e de Adalgisa na crítica, as lacunas presentes em ambos os livros e a impossibilidade de representação das autoras pelo texto. Tratar do modernismo por meio de máscaras permite pensá-lo a partir do texto e de um começo, ou de um re-começo, que pode existir ainda hoje. A determinate critical tradition analyses Brazilian modernist works considering the nationalist aspect of this movement. This tradition is based, most of the times, on a materialistic conception of history. Besides that, this critical perspective takes into account the structure as the main aspect to be analyzed in a literary work and considers the authors who took part in the Modern Week, in 1922, as patterns to read others modernist writers and texts. This paper focuses on two modernist non-canonical writers, Maria Martins (1890-1973) and Adalgisa Nery (1905-1980) assuming that they were not suitably considered as part of that literary movement because they have embraced a Nietzschean conception of time, an understanding of history as a cyclical movement. Deuses Malditos I (1965), Nietzsche's biography by Maria Martins and A imaginária (1969), Adalgisa's Nery autobiographical novel, will be analyzed departing from the theses that biography and autobiography are textual masks. Mask is the substance that reveals when hiding, which fills various vacuities - Maria's and Adalgisa's absence in literary criticism, the gaps present in both books and the textual impossibility of representing these writers. To deal with modernism by means of masks also allows to consider the notion of text and to depart from a beginning or from a reopening to think about this movement, what may be possible still nowadays
