No full textThe diffusion potential technique was applied to determine the isoelectric point (IEP) of solid samples taken after different reaction times in two selected zeolite hydrothermal transformations (1). NaA to HS and (2) NaY to NaP. Both reactions were also followed by X-ray diffraction analysis of the solid phase. Experiments included the study of solids consisting of different starting and final proportions of the phases. Differences were found between the IEP values obtained for these samples and those of corresponding mechanical mixtures of NaArHS and NaY/NaP, prepared to the same composition. It was established that both transformations began onto the starting NaA and NaY zeolite surfaces, the final zeolite cover, and in some extent the surface of the former.Fil: Torres Sanchez, Rosa Maria. Board Independence And Firm Performance: The Moderating Effect Of Institutional Context
No full textThis study proposes a new research approach to examine the relationship between board independence and corporate performance, measured by technical efficiency. Moreover, this paper examines the moderating role that institutional factors exert on this relationship through the legal system—the content of law and its enforcement. The research questions are examined using an international sample of 2185 firms from 2006 to 2015, applying truncated regression models for panel data and employing data envelopment analysis to examine efficiency as a measure of performance. This paper supports that board independence increases the firm's technical efficiency. Even more, greater legal and judicial protection exerts a positive moderating effect on the previous relationship by protecting private benefits for insiders, among other aspects. Thus, the positive impact of independent directors on efficiency is greater when firms operate in countries with a greater extent of law and enforcement. Chromium removal by zeolite-rich materials obtained from an exhausted FCC catalyst: Influence of chromium incorporation on the sorbent structure
No full textA spent FCC catalyst was converted into a zeolitic mixture, and the product obtained was afterward used as trapping material for Cr(III) species frequently found in aqueous solutions. Eventual changes in the sorbent structure produced by Cr incorporation were studied by different characterization techniques such as point of zero charge determinations (PZC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and infrared absorption (FTIR). The XRD and FTIR analyses indicated that chromium incorporation produces an amorphization of the material, and PZC measurements show no surface adsorption of charged chromium species. SEM and EDX analyses clearly show that after chromium sorption, the initial microspheroidal catalyst morphology was maintained, and the presence of chromium species was mainly detected in the outer microsphere surface, where the zeolite crystals were hydrothermally grown.Fil: González, Maximiliano.
