Implementation of selected database operations in parallel environment
Title: Implementation of selected database operations in parallel environment Author: Bc. Ján Majdan Department: Department of Software Engineering Supervisor: RNDr. David Bednárek, Ph.D. Abstract: This thesis describes several design possibilities of database operations in a parallel environment called Bobox. First, the thesis covers theory of da- tabases as well as algorithms needed to implement database operations in main memory. Next part discusses the usage of hash tables to implement parallel data- base operations. The key principles discussed contain hashing approaches based on a shared hash table, as well as principles of data preprocessing (local hash Table). The thesis then describes practical usage of selected database operations, which were implemented based on the principles described in the first theory sec- tions. The implementation also involves performance measurement at different levels of parallelism. Finally, acquired results are analyzed and discussed in terms of scalability of parallelism and performance in the Bobox environment. Keywords: database operations, Bobox, parallelism, hashing, data preprocessing
La ‘questione russa’ nel dibattito intellettuale e politico dell’Ucraina del post-Majdan
This paper provides an analysis of the intellectual and political debate around the role of Russian language and culture in post-Maidan Ukraine. The author retraces (a) the main social and cultural developments emerged in Ukraine in the aftermath of the Euromajdan Revolution (2013-14) and the war in Donbas (2014-), and (b) the directions of cultural policies promoted by the post-Majdan elite (2014-19). Through this twofold reading the article shows the peculiar interrelation between the field of culture and the field of politics in contemporary Ukraine, in an attempt to reveal the specific nuances of the so-called ‘Russian question’

Taras Ševčenko on Majdan
The author illustrates the different ways in which the Ukrainian national poet Taras Ševčenko was ‘used’ by participants in the protest movement known as Jevromajdan (Euromaidan) (November 2013-February 2014). In particular the author analyzes quotations and adaptations of Ševčenko’s poetry, portrayals of the poet himself (paintings, photomontages, sculptures), and poems inspired by him and conceived as a sort of dialogue with him. The aforementioned uses of Ševčenko are investigated with regard to their function in supporting the protesters’ claims and reasons for discontent, also taking into account the inextricable and unique bond that links Ukraine and Ukrainians with the human, moral and poetic legacy of Taras Ševčenko

Пошуки української ідентичності в повісті Войцєха Кудиби «Моє прізвище – Майдан»
In this article I analyze Wojciech Kudyba’s novel “My name is Maidan» (“Nazywam się majdan»), which is an attempt to tell a fictionalized story of the Ukrainian renaissance of the recent years. I investigate the symbols, the rhetorical terms, and the literary conventions that the author evokes. In his novel Kudyba poses the questions about the specificity and the roots Ukrainian national identity and its relations with the culture of Western Europe.
This article traces the architectural transformation of the central public space in the Ukrainian capital in the course of the historical changes. From the politically oriented architectural representations, the author establishes the link between urban reality and evolving artistic modes of production
Leksyka dotycząca „najstarszego zawodu świata” w polskim socjolekcie przestępczym z XIX i początku XX wieku
The author presents an erotic lexicon belonging to the category of “prostitution” and appearing in historical criminal jargon. He excerpted lexical material from Polish historical studies from the 19th century and the beginning the 20th century (38 words). In the article the author presents the provenance of some expressivisms. He analyses less familiar and forgotten names of brothel, prostitute and pimp: i.e.: bajzel, majdan, binia, nafke, marucha, lupa, chonte, babustyna, szantrapa, rachla, gonia, wytyczka, przydupnik, maciornik, luj, bratpolski, alfons). Most of the studied words constitute neo-semantism, less often – borrowings. The author presents the etymology of this vocabulary, but he also hypothesises the origin of several lexemes. He puts the analysed words in the context of linguistic and cultural taboos (he mentions euphemisation and vulgarisation). The text invites discussion; some of the author’s observations provoke debate. The author presents an erotic lexicon belonging to the category of “prostitution” and appearing in historical criminal jargon. Outcome Prediction after Traumatic Brain Injury: Comparison of the Performance of Routinely Used Severity Scores and Multivariable Prognostic Models
Objectives: Prognosis of outcome after traumatic brain injury (TBI) is important in the assessment of quality of care and can help improve treatment and outcome. The aim of this study was to compare the prognostic value of relatively simple injury severity scores between each other and against a gold standard model – the IMPACT-extended (IMP-E) multivariable prognostic model. Materials and Methods: For this study, 866 patients with moderate/severe TBI from Austria were analyzed. The prognostic performances of the Glasgow coma scale (GCS), GCS motor (GCSM) score, abbreviated injury scale for the head region, Marshall computed tomographic (CT) classification, and Rotterdam CT score were compared side-by-side and against the IMP-E score. The area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) and Nagelkerke's R 2 were used to assess the prognostic performance. Outcomes at the Intensive Care Unit, at hospital discharge, and at 6 months (mortality and unfavorable outcome) were used as end-points. Results: Comparing AUCs and R 2s of the same model across four outcomes, only little variation was apparent. A similar pattern is observed when comparing the models between each other: Variation of AUCs 0.83 and R 2 > 0.42 for all outcomes): AUCs were worse by 0.10–0.22 (P < 0.05) and R 2s were worse by 0.22–0.39 points. Conclusions: All tested simple scores can provide reasonably valid prognosis. However, it is confirmed that well-developed multivariable prognostic models outperform these scores significantly and should be used for prognosis in patients after TBI wherever possible
