Title: Equation editor for Android Author: Jiří Marek Department: Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematical Logic Supervisor: RNDr. Petr Kučera, Ph.D. Abstract: The goal of this project is to implement an application for the mobile operating system Android, which allows user to interactively create mathematical expressions and typeset them in LATEX. The application is also capable of saving and sharing its output in various file formats. The application contains a general editor and compiler of LaTeX documents. It is possible to use the equation editor to create a formula, place it into a full LaTeX document and to edit it later in the equation editor again. The application is designed in such a way that even a user, who doesn't know LATEX, is capable of creating complex mathematical expressions. It is also possible to seamlessly switch between an interactive type of input and direct editing of a LATEX code. Keywords: Equation, Editor, LaTeX, Androi

Fairness and Squareness: Fair Decision Making Rules in the EU Council?

    No full text
The concept of fair representation of voters in a committee representing different voters’ groups, such as national representations in union of states, is discussed. This concept, introduced into discussion about voting rights in the Council of European Union in 2004, was narrowed to proposal of distribution of voting weights among the member states proportionally to square roots of population. Such a distribution should guarantee the same indirect voting power to each EU citizen, measured by Penrose-Banzhaf index of voting power. In this paper we attempt to clarify this concept.Council of Ministers, indirect voting power, Penrose-Banzhaf power index, Shapley-Shubik power index, square root rule, simple voting game

Title: Imaging of fluorescently labelled mitochondria using Biplane FPALM microscopy Author: Bc. Marek Dostál Department: Fyzikální ústav UK Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Jaromír Plášek, CSc. Consultants: RNDr. Petr Ježek, DrSc. Mgr. Hana Engstová, Ph.D. Abstract: In this thesis the results are presented of a search for suitable PCFP markers for a visualization inner and outer mitochondrial membranes by unique biplane FPALM microscope. We participated in debugging the measuring software for the purpose of 3D vizualization mitochondrial nets and determine their parameters. For this purpose were developed two methods. The first one can be applied to determine the parametrs of outer membranes and the second one is applicable to determine parametrs of inner membranes. On smaller statistical file we managed to confirm dependence quality of mitochondrial net on the cell culture conditions. Under stress conditions e.g. hypoxia the quality of mitochondrial net is changed. Keywords: mitochondria, Biplane FPALM, GFP, 3D visualization

Notes from the Underground: Explorations of Dissent in the Music of Czech-born Composers Marek Kopelent and Petr Kotík

abstract: Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, musicologists have been delving into formerly inaccessible archives and publishing new research on Eastern Bloc composers. Much of the English-language scholarship, however, has focused on already well-known composers from Russia or Poland. In contrast, composers from smaller countries such as the Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) have been neglected. In this thesis, I shed light on the new music scene in Czechoslovakia from 1948–1989, specifically during the period of “Normalization” (1969–1989). The period of Normalization followed a cultural thaw, and beginning in 1969 the Czechoslovak government attempted to restore control. Many Czech and Slovak citizens kept their opinions private to avoid punishment, but some voiced their opinions and faced repression, while others chose to leave the country. In this thesis, I explore how two Czech composers, Marek Kopelent (b. 1932) and Petr Kotík (b. 1942) came to terms with writing music before and during the period of Normalization.Dissertation/ThesisMasters Thesis Music 201

Nová nová spodní miliarda: Chudoba a regionální rozdíly v cenových hladinách celosvětově

New new bottom billion: Poverty and regional differences in price levels around the world Author: Marek Šedivý Supervisor: Petr Janský, PhD. Oba indikátory jsou spočteny upravené a neupravené o regionální cenové...New new bottom billion: Poverty and regional differences in price levels around the world Author: Marek Šedivý Supervisor: Petr Janský, PhD. Abstract Comparable national price levels are a fundamental instrument for any research attempting to compare economic indicators of various countries. Nowadays they are produced by a number of organizations, namely the World Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Penn World Tables. However these are provided only on national level even though significant evidence of inter-regional differences in price levels exists. This could lead to a bias of income-based economic indicators. Systematic assessment of the impact of spatial price differences on income-based economic indicators was done in this thesis. On the basis of the existing research it estimates regional price levels for a sample of 21 high and middle income countries. By combination of these indicators with income survey data provided by the Luxembourg Income Study it constructs Gini coefficients and poverty headcount ratios both adjusted and unadjusted for regional price levels. Significant and persistent evidence of bias induced by regional price levels is found throughout the sample. In the majority of cases the failure to adjust for spatial price differences leads to...Institute of Economic StudiesInstitut ekonomických studiíFakulta sociálních vědFaculty of Social Science
