A Didactic Sequence Inspired by the Historical Evolution of Colorimetry to Introduce the Lambert–Beer Law at High School Level

    No full text
This research paper aims to propose a novel didactic sequence inspired by an historical / epistemological study of the evolution of spectroscopy and in particular of colorimetry. The working principles of the historical color comparators and the visual color matching method, first proposed by Duboscq, stimulated us in the development of a five-steps sequence of experiments, following a phenomenological approach. The teaching sequence was designed to help students understanding several key-aspects of the well-known and widely used Lambert-Beer equation, which is typically introduced to high school students for analytical chemistry applications. Through the proposed laboratorial experiences students should understand the meaning and the role of the optical path and of the concentration of the solution in the color intensity. Moreover, students should realize that the intensity of color is determined by the number of absorber particles the light encounters during its optical path. The didactic sequence has been experimented with 95 high school students from four different institutes and a qualitative study was carried out based on the analysis of students’ answers to a 15 open questions survey which was specifically designed to investigate students’ misconceptions, way of reasoning and understanding of the main aspects related to the phenomenon of light absorption of a colored solution. The main results of the experimentation based on the analysis of the questionnaires are here reported and discussed. The description of the sequence and relevant technical aspects together with the materials useful for high school teachers are also provided

ENG: The following thesis analyses the origin and the diffusion of the anthropomorphic support’s iconography – atlas or caryatid – from the ancient period (Greek and Roman art) to the end of the Middle Ages. The first chapter focuses on Ancient art, also by bringing attention to specific manifestations of the examined iconographic motive in Mesopotamic art. The main theme of this chapter regards the transformations occurred between the mythologic narration concerning the figure of the titan Atlas, and its necessary reinterpretation on behalf of the Roman Empire. The second chapter studies the characteristics of the iconography of the atlas, i.e., the medieval telamon, after its collocation into the visual repertoire of Christian art. The last paragraph of this chapter follows the processes of revaluation and positive metamorphosis of the motive, its translation into Evangelists and Virtues, who support pulpit’s lecterns and funerary sarcophagi. The third chapter is entirely dedicated to Giovanni Pisano’s telamons, such as the one crouched under a column that bears the weight of the upper portion of Pistoia’s pulpit, inside the church of Sant ’Andrea, or the supposed self-portrait hunched under the caryatid representing Christ of the pulpit of the cathedral of Pisa

Fragility curves for low-damage rocking dissipative connections of precast concrete buildings

Different low-damage technologies have recently been developed to meet society's growing expectations for earthquake-proof buildings. Among others, the PRESSS (PREcast Seismic Structural System) technology has proved its capability to withstand earthquakes with minimal damage, effectively mitigating socio-economic losses. However, applying loss assessment methodologies can pose challenges due to the lack of data regarding fragility functions for low-damage structural components. This paper aims to propose a method for computing numerical fragility curves for rocking dissipative structural components. To achieve this, archetypes of precast concrete structures were analyzed to develop fragility models for this technology.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Architectural Technolog

Rad nastoji pobliže približiti ugovorne odnose pofesionalnih nogometaša i nogometnih klubova u Republici Hrvatskoj. The paper aims to bring closer the contractual relations of professional football players and football clubs in the Republic of Croatia. In this effort, the paper starts from explaining the monopoly-hierarchical structure of the football organization in Croatia but also in the world. Next, the author describes the types of contracts that can be concluded between the mentioned entities, and he pays special attention to the most widespread form - the professional playing contract. When analyzing that contract, the author explains its legal nature, the differences compared to similar contracts, its provisions and the modalities of its termination. At the end, the paper pays attention to the role of football agents in mediating between football players and football clubs and describes which contract governs the relationship between the mediator and the football club, i.e. football players
