The article analyses the work of a Frankfurt School, founded by Felix Weil family in 1923 in Frankfurt. Main author\u27s intention is to make the critical theory of practical use in contemporary political analysis. The author tries to explain, how Max Horkheimer\u27s theory (and critical discourse analysis) can be a practical tool, which can describe possibility of making a social change. The author stresses the theory\u27s emancipation role, and demonstrates that critical theory can be an explanatory, practical and normative mode of social inquiry. Debunking and demystification of contrasts between the possible construction of life and its present state is the critical theory\u27s main objective. To present contemporary methods of political analysis the author uses Klaus von Beyme\u27s proposal. The author suggests that Paul K. Feyerabend is right, when he writes about science. Feyerabend\u27s point of view is completely different from traditional theory. He has got a new idea which means for him anything goes in science, especially in social science. This article proves that immanent critic is a part of interdisciplinary studies, an idea that was regarded as a method to achieve the goal of Frankfurt School. This paper uses theoretical and analytical resources to explore processes and conflicts over efforts to present tragic events as spectacles, focusing on a case study of Hurricane Katrina. It shows who is real victims, and who is responsible for one of the biggest disaster in USA history. The author is confident, that critical analysis discourse is a very useful methodology in politics analysis. The article is used by the author in his research focused on answers to the question "How do you think, why Donald Tusk is a PM"

The Inquisitives as a New Social Movement: Political Aspects of Public Information Law Access in New Zealand In this paper the Author analyzes new social movement labeled the “Inquisitives”. It apparently has its roots in political thought and in philosophy of “the right to know”. New Zealand adopted the Official Information Act in 1980 to give citizensthe formal right to inquire about the public affairs. As society has evolved under constant technological pressure so has evolved the way in which people get information. The information society strives for information about political issues, and about political‑public affairs. The Author of this paper suggests that a new social movement has been operating globally, considering the particular case of the Inquisitives movement in New Zealand. The paper aims to explore its genesis, background, roles, functions, political values, motives and goals.</jats:p

In this article an author highlighted political attitudes towards martial low introduction in Poland (1981) among Poles in New Zealand and New Zealanders. The course of the research has revealed the following phenomena accompanying the political attitudes in New Zealand in times of martial law in Poland: worker’s unions showed dichotomy toward “Solidarity” movement; anticommunism of New Zealand government; political conflict in the circles of polish political emigration; high ability of Poles abroad to political mobilization. The conducted research allowed to positively verify the hypothesis, being an assumption that Poles as well as New Zealanders showed anticommunism attitudes in the time of martial law introduction in Poland, and New Zealand society support Poles in New Zealand in theirs anticommunism and disagreement for communism regime and dismantling of democratic opposition centered around “Solidarity”.</jats:p

Statofobia jako przyczyna cofania się fali demokratyzacji

In this article an assumption is made that several factors are responsi-ble for current democracy state. First of all the state-phobia phenome-non is scrutinized while looking for factors which are responsible for citizens reluctance and fear of state. Hypothesis is raised that state-phobia cause withdrawal of democratization wave in today’s nation-states. Trying to solve this problem out author highlighted the impor-tance of the idea of state in political thought and an impact of socio-economic pattern of the world we observe (impact of neoliberalism). Political attitudes summarized as state-phobia rise from a number of factors and cause a number of spaces connected with political life such as electoral behavior. It seems that the lack of trust toward nation-state works like a perpetuum mobile causing the weak state and inefficient institution

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
