Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textDevido ao fato de o chorume ter compostos orgânicos e inorgânicos com características biodegradáveis e recalcitrantes, composição física, química e biológica complexa e variável, requer um tratamento adequado e que seja condizente com suas características, sendo que propostas de tratamento que utilizam apenas processos biológicos podem não ser eficientes, necessitando da combinação de processos físico-químicos. Nesse contexto, o presente estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a evolução da tratabilidade do chorume produzido no Aterro Sanitário Municipal “Marcelo Reis Arantes”, no município de Formiga – MG, no período de 2010 a 2020, bem como realizar a proposição de métodos físico-químicos de pós-tratamento para esse chorume. O aterro sanitário foi inaugurado em 2009 e tem vida útil de 21 anos, sendo que o mesmo está localizado na comunidade rural de Serrinha, a aproximadamente 8 km do centro do município. Por meio da revisão sistemática, foram analisados vários estudos que utilizaram processos físico-químicos para tratamento de chorume, os quais apresentam compostos recalcitrantes, com resultados positivos e negativos oriundos das aplicações das técnicas. Realizou-se a caracterização quali-quantitativa e temporal do chorume produzido no Aterro Sanitário Municipal “Marcelo Reis Arantes”, no município de Formiga – MG, visando avaliar a evolução da tratabilidade ao longo dos 11 anos de operação desse aterro sanitário. Após a aplicação de análises estatísticas, observou-se que as variáveis DBO e DQO (saída) apresentaram aumentos significativos ao longo dos anos e que, apesar de o sistema estar apresentando eficiência de remoção de tais variáveis, a partir de 2015 e 2011, respectivamente, não conseguiu mais reduzir as concentrações de DBO e DQO e atender à legislação ambiental. Foi evidenciado que está ocorrendo o decaimento da eficiência do sistema de tratamento existente. Dessa forma, recomendou-se a construção do 2º Módulo de Tratamento de Chorume e também a adoção de processos físico-químicos em seu tratamento. A relação DQO/DBO, na maioria dos anos, esteve maior ou igual a 3,0, indicando que o chorume já requer cuidado na escolha do processo biológico para seu tratamento, entretanto o chorume já apresenta uma tendência de caminhar para uma relação maior do que 5,0. Por fim, o trabalho resultou em um produto técnico, uma planilha dinâmica com a finalidade de organizar o banco de dados do aterro sanitário, realizar o monitoramento ambiental e possibilitar o acompanhamento da evolução ao longo dos anos do tratamento do chorume e das condições do corpo hídrico receptor.Due to the fact that the slurry has organic and inorganic compounds with biodegradable and recalcitrant characteristics, complex and variable physical, chemical and biological composition, it requires an appropriate treatment that is consistent with its characteristics, and treatment proposals that use only biological processes may not be efficient, requiring the combination of physical and chemical processes. In this context, this study aims to evaluate the evolution of the treatability of slurry produced at the Municipal Landfill "Marcelo Reis Arantes", in the city of Formiga - MG, from 2010 to 2020, as well as to propose physical-chemical post-treatment methods for this slurry. The landfill was inaugurated in 2009 and has a useful life of 21 years, and it is located in the rural community of Serrinha, approximately 8 km from the city center. By means of a systematic review, several studies were analyzed that used physical-chemical processes for the treatment of leachate that presents recalcitrant compounds, presenting the positive and negative results from the application of the techniques. A qualitative, quantitative and temporal characterization of the slurry produced at the Municipal Landfill "Marcelo Reis Arantes", in the city of Formiga - MG, was performed in order to assess the evolution of treatability over the 11 years of operation of this landfill. After applying statistical analysis, it was observed that the variables BOD and COD (output) showed significant increases over the years and that although the system is presenting efficiency of removal of such variables, from 2015 and 2011, respectively, it could no longer reduce the concentrations of BOD and COD and meet environmental legislation. It was evidenced that the efficiency of the existing treatment system is decreasing. Thus, it was recommended the construction of the 2nd Slurry Treatment Module and also the adoption of physical-chemical processes in its treatment. The COD/DBO ratio in most years was greater than or equal to 3.0, indicating that the slurry already requires care in the choice of biological process for its treatment, however, the slurry already shows a tendency to be heading towards a ratio greater than 5.0. Finally, the work resulted in a technical product, a dynamic spreadsheet with the purpose of organizing the database of the landfill, performing environmental monitoring and enabling the monitoring of the evolution over the years of the slurry treatment and the conditions of the receiving water body.Instituto Federal de Minas Gerai

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
