Moral Good, the Beatific Vision, and God’s Kingdom Writings by Germain Grisez and Peter Ryan, S.J.. Edited by Peter J. Weigel
For close to half a century, the work of Germain Grisez has been highly influential, and his writings continue to receive considerable attention from philosophers and theologians of diverse viewpoints. His co-author for this work is the professor and noted moral theologian Fr. Peter Ryan, S.J., currently the executive director of the Secretariat of Doctrine and Canonical Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). These two eminent scholars explore fundamental questions about Christian eschatology, moral theory, the purpose of human life, and the promise of human fulfilment. The authors examine Christian teaching on the final destiny of persons, investigating the meaning of God's kingdom, the hope of the beatific vision, and the centrality of moral goodness and divine grace in one's final end. This work is an ideal source for students, scholars, ministers and lay persons interested in basic questions of Christian theology, the philosophy of religion, ethical theory, and Catholic doctrin

Indirect fluorescence detection of phenolic compounds by capillary electrophoresis on a glass device
A micromachined capillary electrophoresis system has been fabricated on a glass device for the separation and indirect fluorescence detection of phenols. Using this device two phenols viz., 2,4-dichlorophenol and pentachlorophenol, were separated within 12 s compared to under 19 min on a conventional capillary electrophoresis system using direct ultraviolet detection. The precision of the glass device ranged from 12.7%–16.7% compared to 0.42%–4.9% for the conventional system. Both systems showed good linearity in the concentration range of 0.8– 6.38 mM for the glass device and 5–130 ?M for the conventional system. The relationship between temperature and high voltage with baseline drift was also investigated. These results provide a foundation for the development of a miniaturised chemical analysis system for the on-line analysis of phenols in water

Die Zwiesprach der Tiere
Here is a lovely book with bent covers presenting many vignettes of animals. The book is a nostalgic reproduction of 38 fables from a Dialogus Creaturarum of 1480. The woodcuts are charming as they present a variety of creatures in dialogue with each other. To my surprise, only one of the fables is one of those we know well: "The Angler and Small Fish" (27). The typeface is also a throwback to earlier German publishing. I will include Peter Everaers' comments: "Die Zwiesprach der Tiere. München, Verlag der Münchner Drucke, 1923. Original decorated board, 77+1p. Ca. 23 x 15,5 cm. "Von einem Unbekannten im späten Mittelalter in Holland geschrieben, wurden viele Fabeln zuerst im Jahr 1480 von Peter van Leu in Gouda gedruckt. Nach diesem Dialogus Creaturarum liesz der Verlag der Münchener Drucke in München im Jahr 1923 die schönsten Fabeln aus dem Lateinischen übersetzen und in den alten Huttlerschen Typen der Offizin G.J. Manz A.-G. in München drucken. Dem holländischen Frühdruck sind auch die achtunddreiszig Holzschnitte entnommen. Nr. 262/550." Some staining in the last pages; boards somewhat discoloured; otherwise a good copy."Language note: German#262 of 550No Autho
