Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada relapse after COVID-19 vaccination
Purpose: To report a relapse of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease in a patient after COVID-19 vaccination. Case Report: A VKH disease patient, well controlled on azathioprine therapy, presented a uveitis relapse eleven days after the first vaccination for COVID-19. She received an induction high-dose intravenous corticosteroid therapy, followed by oral therapy, which led to a complete recovery from the uveitis in two weeks. No relapses occurred in the following five months of follow-up. Despite high-dose corticosteroid therapy and azathioprine, and one dose only of vaccination, the patient resulted positive for anti-RBD spike COV19 antibody. Conclusion: Relapse of VKH disease can occur after COVID-19 vaccination, despite an appropriate immunosuppressive therapy is ongoing. It responds to the classic therapy for VKH, and a serological response to an incomplete COVID-19 vaccination can also be found
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Verifica sperimentale dello stato di presollecitazione e controllo dell’evoluzione della monta di tegoli alari in c.a.p.
Gli elementi prefabbricati “alari” in calcestruzzo armato precompresso rappresentano oggi una soluzione costruttiva frequentemente usata nel settore dell’edilizia industrializzata per la realizzazione di coperture di grande luce. Con tali elementi è, infatti, possibile realizzare con facilità coperture anche di 30 m di luce, disponendoli a interasse relativamente elevato.
Al fine di ottimizzare la loro progettazione, sfruttandone, al contempo, la massima capacità portante e riducendo, per quanto possibile, le azioni trasmesse alle strutture su cui sono poggiati, tali elementi sono correntemente realizzati con gusci di calcestruzzo armato di ridotto spessore, e con bulbi, anch’essi in c.a., ai quali viene applicata una importante presollecitazione per mezzo di trefoli aderenti.
Considerati i ridotti margini di sicurezza conseguenti all’ottimale sfruttamento delle proprietà meccaniche dei materiali, gli elevati sforzi di presollecitazione necessari a garantire valori appropriati della capacità portante allo stato limite ultimo nonché le particolari caratteristiche geometriche che devono essere possedute dai tegoli in condizioni di esercizio, risulta indispensabile verificare e monitorare l’effettivo stato di presollecitazione presente nell’elemento.
A tale scopo la Manini Prefabbricati S.p.A. e il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale dell’Università di Perugia hanno eseguito una campagna di prove sperimentali su tegoli alari in vera grandezza al fine di monitorare lo sviluppo dello stato di presollecitazione durante le varie fasi della maturazione del calcestruzzo. Estensimetri elettrici a resistenza, celle di carico e trasduttori di spostamento sono stati impiegati per misurare le effettive perdite di tensione e l’evoluzione, nel breve termine, della monta.
I risultati di tale sperimentazione sono illustrati e commentati nella presente comunicazione.
Le misure sperimentali sono state, infine, confrontate criticamente con le previsioni teoriche di progetto ed utilizzate per migliorare il processo di progettazione e di realizzazione dei manufatti
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Ocular Behçet disease and COVID-19
Purpose: to study in patients with Behçet disease and ocular involvement (OBD) the presence of SARS-CoV-2 infection and its influence on the course of OBD. Methods: all the patients with OBD living in Lazio, one Italian region, and attending the Uveitis center of the Sapienza University of Rome were included in the study. Results: SARS-CoV-2 infection was found in 12.3% of 54 patients with OBD and in 3.84% of Lazio inhabitants (p = 0.001, OR 3.51), and it was unrelated to the use of immunosuppressive drugs. COVID-19 symptoms in OBD patients were mild, with one patient only requiring hospitalization for interstitial pneumonia. None of the SARS-CoV-2 infected patients presented any uveitis relapses during the infection and in a subsequent median follow-up of 6 months. Conclusion: OBD seems to be a risk factor for developing SARS-CoV-2 infection. Usually this infection has a mild course and does not impact negatively on the course of uveitis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
