Thermo-luminescence and neutron absorption cross section evaluations of compounds of Lithium based oxide ceramic breeders in Li-Zr-O system
Electronic structures of the electron donor-acceptor complexes of fullerenes C<sub>60</sub> and C<sub>70</sub> with azulene and some of its derivatives employing <i>ab initio</i> and DFT methods
1461-1467Quantum mechanical calculations have been
carried out to determine the structural and electronic properties of the
electron donor-acceptor complexes of C60 and C70 with
azulene and some of its derivative, viz, 1,3-dichloroazulene,
2-hydroxyazulene and 4,6,8-trimetrhyl azulene. The molecules studied are
optimized first with semi-empirical molecular orbital theory at the third
parametric level, and, then further optimized by Hartree Fock method. The optimized
geometries, calculated energies, spatial distribution, HOMO and LUMO energies along
with the electrostatic potential maps of the individual molecules and the
electron donor-acceptor complexes are obtained by ab initio and density functional theory methods. The results
suggest that the LUMO state of these complexes is localized on the fullerene
moiety whereas the HOMO state is positioned on the azulenes. The energy
difference of localized LUMO levels strongly depend on the functional group
attached to the azulene and the structure of the fullerene-azulene molecular
complexes
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in double gallbladder with dual pathology
Double gallbladder is a rare embryological anomaly of clinical significance. Despite availability of modern imaging, only 50% of recently reported cases had preoperative diagnosis, which is desirable in every case to avoid serious operative complications. Double pathology in double gallbladder is extremely rare with only 3 reporting′s available till date to the best of author′s knowledge. With a preoperative diagnosis of double gallbladder, laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be safely and successfully performed with meticulous dissection, aided by operative cholangiogram. However in all such attempts a lower threshold should be kept for conversion to open surgery. Awareness about this anomaly amongst radiologists and surgeons is of crucial importance. Double gallbladder does not present with any specific symptom, neither it increases disease possibility in either lobe. Prophylactic cholecystectomy has no role in asymptomatic cases diagnosed accidentally. Author reports a case of a symptomatic young male with double gallbladder who presented with short history of dyspepsia, abdominal pain and fever. Definite preoperative diagnosis was reached with ultrasound scan and magnetic resonance cholangio pancreatography and subsequently dealt with laparoscopically. Calculous cholecystitis affected one lobe and acalculous empyema the other. While the 1st lobe drained though a cystic duct into common bile duct (CBD), the 2nd was without any communication with either CBD or its counterpart, thus remained as a blind vesicle
Dosimetric and Radiobiological Impact of Flattening Filter‐Free Beam and Dose Calculation Algorithm Using RapidArc Plans for Cervical Cancer Treatment
Abstract Purpose The aim of this study is to quantify the potential benefits of a flattening filter‐free (FFF) beam and implement a dose‐computation algorithm for cervical radiotherapy through dosimetric and radiobiological analyses using RapidArc. Methods Thirty‐three patients were enrolled, and four RapidArc plans were created for each patient using a dual‐arc flattening filter and 6‐MV FFF photon beams for the two calculation algorithms. Homogeneity index (HI), conformity index (CI), target coverage, monitor units (MUs), and organ‐at‐risk (OAR) dosimetric characteristics were compared between the plans. Radiobiological characteristics and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) scores were computed for the OAR using different biological models. Results No significant differences were observed in the Dmax, D98%, and CI in the planning target volume (PTV). Both computations estimated a significant difference in V95%, D2%, and HI for the PTV. Furthermore, the FFF beam showed a significant increase in the MUs and a significant reduction in V30% for the femoral heads. The NTCP score showed a significant increase in the late effects on the bladder, rectum, and bowel with FFF beams. Conclusion The current study recommends FFF beams for better conformity, comparable dose coverage for the target, and OAR sparing invariable to the dose computation algorithm. The difference in the NTCP score for OAR was minimal with the FFF beam
“Interrogating My Chandal Life”: Manoranjan Byapari and the Silenced History of Bengali Dalit Refugees

He gives an intense and in-depth description of the failure of the rehabilitation schemes by the government, the unfulfilled promises made by various leaders during the fervent 1960s Calcutta followed by the stormy decades of the 1970s, the violent repercussion of the militant Naxalite movement, the forgotten episodes of the Marichjhapi massacre in 1979 where thousands of innocent Dalit refugees were killed mercilessly by the government and finally the darker sides of the corrupt politics and the criminal world. It has been narrated from the perspective of a lower caste Namasudra refugee, something that has never been done before in Bengal’s mainstream literary world. Manoranjan Byapari uses literature as a weapon, almost like a sentinel for his conscience, gives voice to the voiceless and he is willing to fight bigotry. He is willing to wage a fight against the hierarchical society. Byapari's autobiography is a critique of the constant dehumanising social forces of a caste-ridden society that get buried in urban post-colonial settings. Through his autobiography, he vents the anguish and frustration of the Namasudras. Although his autobiography narrates his own predicament and the difficult journey of his life, it is universal in nature as it transcends the Namasudra community as a whole
Entropy of a generic null surface from its associated Virasoro algebra
AbstractNull surfaces act as one-way membranes, blocking information from those observers who do not cross them (e.g., in the black hole and the Rindler spacetimes) and these observers associate an entropy (and temperature) with the null surface. The black hole entropy can be computed from the central charge of an appropriately defined, local, Virasoro algebra on the horizon. We show that one can extend these ideas to a general class of null surfaces, all of which possess a Virasoro algebra and a central charge, leading to an entropy density (i.e., per unit area) which is just (1/4). All the previously known results of associating entropy with horizons arise as special cases of this very general property of null surfaces demonstrated here and we believe this work represents the derivation of the entropy-area law in the most general context. The implications are discussed
Network topology of the desert rose
Desert roses are gypsum crystals that consist of intersecting disks. We determine their geometrical structure using computer assisted tomography. By mapping the geometrical structure onto a graph, the topology of the desert rose is analyzed and compared to a model based on diffusion limited aggregation. By comparing the topology, we find that the model gets a number of the features of the real desert rose right, whereas others do not fit so well
Pore- and micro-structural characterization of a novel structural binder based on iron carbonation
abstract: The pore- and micro-structural features of a novel binding material based on the carbonation of waste metallic iron powder are reported in this paper. The binder contains metallic iron powder as the major ingredient, followed by additives containing silica and alumina to facilitate favorable reaction product formation. Compressive strengths sufficient for a majority of concrete applications are attained. The material pore structure is investigated primarily through mercury intrusion porosimetry whereas electron microscopy is used for microstructural characterization. Reduction in the overall porosity and the average pore size with an increase in carbonation duration from 1 day to 4 days is noticed. The pore structure features are used in predictive models for gas and moisture transport (water vapor diffusivity and moisture permeability) through the porous medium which dictates its long-term durability when used in structural applications. Comparisons of the pore structure with those of a Portland cement paste are also provided. The morphology of the reaction products in the iron-based binder, and the distribution of constituent elements in the microstructure are also reported.NOTICE: this is the author's version of a work that was accepted for publication in MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION.
