Introduction. What Challenges for the Future?
The development of humanity must be rethought by shifting the focus from the traditional elements of competitive advantage to new knowledge-based elements. What matters now is the so-called “knowledge resource”, because the achievement of a benefit comes from the possession of knowledge.
Indeed, to know means: a) to participate in the construction of meanings of social and cultural reality in order to transform it in symbolic representation (by activating knowledge structures); b) to attribute “sense” and “meaning” to events, objects or persons on the basis of knowledge, expectations and assumptions; c) to develop in a complex and dynamic way the information that people can gather and turn them into knowledge.
Every interaction with objects or with humans, every act of communication, implies a transmission of skills and knowledge: an exchange that becomes a process of integration of the differences – understood as collective wealth in which everyone is recognized – without limitations in the learning paths of each person or prejudices on “expert” and “profane” knowledge
The ‘Horizon Europe Seeds Olive and Oil in the Mediterranean Basin from Prehistory to the Middle Ages: Cultivation, Production, Functional Aspects’ project is conceived in continuity with similar proposals – aimed primarily at the Mediterranean area – which have shown the potential of the data that can be deduced from the analysis of traditional olive-oil production with a view to interdisciplinary integration and close comparison of the information that each branch of study can offer to the global examination of the olive sector. In this sense, the project aimed to make use of the contribution of heuristic and diagnostic fields pertinent to the historical-archaeological, agri-environmental, archaeometrical and geological/mineral/petrographic fields and pursued the objectives of knowledge, protection, valorisation and sharing of olive cultivation and olive oil culture between past and present. Therefore, the compelling opportunity to set up a fruitful web of relations and reflections within the scientific community suggested the organisation of an international conference celebrated from 15 to 18 May 2023, in Bari, and developed into a seminar session and a round table, the salient outcomes of which this publication reports
The article proposes to discuss the theme of solidarity by relating it to changes in society, therefore, an overview will be offered of the dynamics and challenges - in relation to solidarity - that evolve due to the continuous changes in society, in a repeating circle. The idea is, therefore, to constitute a reflection on solidarity, using a metatheoretical approach suitable for so-called second-order studies such as the one presented here. The article develops from the problematisation of the definition of this concept, from a brief history of the idea of solidarity to arrive at epistemological aspects for the study of solidarity, which, beyond the individual declinations of it, allows us to explore the processes that take place on different levels (individual, social and cultural) for individuals whenever they interact with other individuals or with structures of society. The results arrived at by this theoretical study highlight the need to take into account the following changes occurring in society (a) the modification of risk maps that leads to the demand for new interventions to meet the renewed system of needs; (b) the emergence of the relationality dimension as an area of social distress; (c) the relativisation of knowledge that is often challenged by the information provided by the mass media; and, finally, (d) the non-linear development of social dynamics and technological transformations, which make it mandatory to update, innovate and modify knowledge to face the continuous challenges of society.

Culture and Everyday Life in Rela(c)tion
In a society that is still experiencing the crisis generated by the pandemic due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, aggravated also by the conflict in Ukraine, it is necessary to rethink the concept of culture, which must be declined in its factual reality of everyday life, since the cultural system and its elements not only produce relationships (meaningful interactions) but also individual and collective social action, hence the use of the term rela(c)tion in the title. The text proposes to discuss the theme of culture and cultural processes with an innovative slant that takes into account the changes that have occurred in recent years. One thinks, for example, of the great interest in processes that lead to social justice, particularly in the Global South, and the sustainability strongly brought about by Generation Z. The authors, without omitting theoretical insights necessary for understanding the transformation of this concept, will proceed to outline the areas, dimensions and cultural processes that influence the dynamics of everyday life and that in turn influence culture itself. The idea behind this book was to construct a reflection on culture that goes beyond the individual definitions of this concept and allows for the exploration of the processes that take place in contemporary society on different levels (individual, social, and cultural) in the unfolding of individuals' everyday lives. To sum up, the objective pursued is to provide a picture of the dynamics, but at the same time of the future challenges to be faced by the different cultural systems due to the continuous changes in society, without neglecting to highlight what may be the orientations and/or innovative models (sustainability, social justice, democratic culture, etc.) that should be pursued for the construction of a cultural system that favours the peaceful and cohesive existence of differences
