    Get PDF
This article explores environmental awareness in interfaith da\u27wah and dialogue, featuring Muhammadiyah\u27s Eco-Bhinneka program as a case study. Environmental issues have attracted significant global attention in recent years, prompting various religious communities to reflect on their teachings and practices related to ecological survival. Eco-Bhinneka Muhammadiyah is one of the programs initiated by Muhammadiyah, the largest organization in Indonesia, to face environmental challenges through a proactive approach and integrating da\u27wah principles to initiate interfaith dialogue. This research uses qualitative methods, adopts the inter-religious dialogue concept outlined in Paul Swidler\u27s thoughts, and combines it with the concept of lived religion proposed by Devaka Premawardhana. The research shows that the program focuses on environmental conservation and uses the environment as a platform to engage in da\u27wah activities and promote inter-religious dialogue. Eco-Bhinneka Muhammadiyah is an inspiring example of how the concepts of da\u27wah and interfaith dialogue can be effectively complemented with environmental awareness to address pressing ecological challenges and promote greater harmony among communities with diverse religious backgrounds. The da\u27wah method highlighted in this study is progressive interpretive da\u27wah.

Factor Analysis of The Change in Attitude of Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Towards Pt Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL) in Environmental Sustainability

    Get PDF
This research examines the complex relationship regarding environmental sustainability between Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) and PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL). The history of deforestation and community displacement by TPL leads to the engagement of HKBP in social movements, resulting in environmental advocacy. Despite TPL’s promise to shift to sustainable practices, TPL resumes deforestation and triggers renewed resistance. Previous studies focus on the impacts of TPL, leaving a gap in understanding the role of HKBP. Through thematic analysis and data triangulation, this research uncovers the environmental irresponsibility of TPL, driven by HKBP’s internal and external gains and challenges in promoting sustainability. The insights obtained explain how religious institutions address ecological issues amidst governance dynamics and highlight the need for such understanding in conservation efforts

This article explores the integration between John Locke\u27s concept of tabula rasa and ecological education for Sunday School children in the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Church. Titled "Growing Faith in Action," this research investigates how Locke\u27s philosophical concept of the mind as an empty "tabula rasa" filled with experience and learning can be applied in the context of children\u27s growing faith. This research focuses on ecological education as a means for Sunday school children\u27s faith growth that involves their understanding of their relationship with nature and the surrounding community. The concept is applied specifically in the context of HKBP Sunday School, highlighting the church\u27s efforts to deliver religious teachings and facilitate hands-on experiences that can shape children\u27s faith. Combining Locke and Susan Power Bratton\u27s thoughts on ecological education and the ecclesial context, this article offers insights into how faith can develop through concrete action and experience, creating a solid foundation for children\u27s spiritual growth in an ecologically conscious and active learning ecclesial environment

This research aims to analyse the establishment of online churches as an alternative medium for worship during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the approach of religious people in the digital era. The case study focused on the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Church of Cilegon, which had difficulty accessing a physical church in Cilegon. The COVID-19 pandemic is the right momentum to realise online worship, considering that most churches have been running online worship for approximately the last two years. The resulting recommendation is to establish an online church involving the entire HKBP Cilegon congregation with officially recognised and registered leadership. If HKBP rules and regulations can allow this, it will be the first online church in Indonesia. This research uses qualitative research methods on online news sources and supporting literature. The results of this research are expected to contribute positively to overcoming the difficulty of accessing physical churches during the pandemic and help mediate inter-religious tensions. The limitation of this research is the focus on HKBP Cilegon as a case study, and an in-depth research on the impact of online churches in the wider Indonesian society would be an interesting further study.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
