Max Egon zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Czechoslovakia
The thesis analyses prince Max Egon Hohenlohe-Langenburg's relationship to Czechoslovak Republic from its origin to year 1945. It focuses on the issues of prince's role in Czechoslovak politics and his attitudes to all the situations which affected the aristocracy in the 20th century in ČSR - land reform, Sudeten crisis and postwar turn of events. In the first chapter the thesis concentrates on foundation of ČSR and its impact on aristocracy and thus also on prince Max Egon at the time. The second chapter deals with consequences of land reform on property of Hohenlohe-Langenburg's House, the third chapter is about Sudeten German crisis and prince Max Egon's role in it. The last chapter shows aristocracy's situation after year 1945. The author comes to conclusion that the personality of prince Max Egon was very ambiguous - he always tried to get on well with everybody in effort to gain personal profit, and for fear that he could not keep his property in the extent that he had had since the time Hohenlohe- Langenburg's family settled down in current Czech border. Creatives Methods in Traveler Reportages by Egon Erwin Kisch
Bakalářská práce s názvem "Tvůrčí postupy v cestopisných reportážích Egona Erwina Kische" se zabývá stylistickým rozborem dvou cestopisných knih, Caři, popi, bolševici a Americký ráj. The name of my bachelor thesis is: "Creatives Methods in Travelers Reportages of Egon Erwin Kisch". This work deals with stylistic analysis of two travel books - Tzars, Popes, Bolsheviks and American Paradise. The work is focused predominantly on the analysis of individual texts. The chapters are concerned with thematic level, tectonic construction and expressive style of Egon Erwin Kisch. This work compares both books, trying to find their specifics, as well as the same elements, which are repeated in both books, and could be described as the characteristic features of the author´s style. This bachelor thesis is trying to answer two important questions: Why does Egon Erwin Kisch still have so many readers and why is quoted in the department of journalism?Katedra literární kultury a slavistikyDokončená práce s úspěšnou obhajobo
The Terezín diaries of Egon Redlich from the perspective of writing theory
The texts of Egon Redlich are viewed from the perspective of theory and didactics of text composition, in which autobiographic writing has mainly abreactive functions for the writer. The Terezín diaries (1942–1944) of Egon Redlich (1916–1944) are written in the form of a chronicle for his fiancée or a biography for his new-born son. For their author, the entries had more than just documentary or cathartic purpose. The text's gradually eveloping literary methods (intertextuality, generic variability ranging from chronicle and description to exemplum and anecdote, to humour and irony) is what makes the diaries a literarily valuable message to readers who manage to outlive the absurd war.The texts of Egon Redlich are viewed from the perspective of theory and didactics of text composition, in which autobiographic writing has mainly abreactive functions for the writer. Crisis of the Modern Man in works of Egon Hostovsky
The bachelor's thesis focuses on representation of critical state of the modern man in the works of Egon Hostovsky. It is a thematic-motivic analysis of literary representations with respect to axiological crises from the structuralist perspective, which attempts to cover themes of existential anxiety, guilt, death, and authenticity of the individual in the modern world. Objective of the thesis is to prove that Hostovsky's representations of guilt refer to existential anxiety, which is to be used as a reflection of the basis of moral codes, and to prove that individual's authenticity is being developed in the light of death, but it does not succumb to the notion that death is an answer in the quest for meaning. The first proposition is being verified by the analysis of the works Dum bez pana (The House Without a Master), The Hideout, Letters from Exil, The Lonely Rebels, and their comparison. The second proposition is being verified on the works Pripad profesora Kornera (The Case of Professor Korner), Cizinec hleda byt (Stranger in a Search for an Apartment), Three Nights, and their comparison. Egon Hostovsky is being understood as a modernist author who uses complex literary techniques to destroy conventional ideas about man's nature in the modern world, and as an existential author since he brings forward..

The view from outside - the February revolution 1948 in the novels of Zdeněk Němeček, Egon Hostovský and Lubor Zink
In her work, the author compares three novels of the exile writers, Egon Hostovský, Lubor Zink and Zdeněk Němeček. The novels Missing, February and the story Shadow bring together the theme of the February revolution in Czechoslovakia in 1948. The author grapple with three main topics, which appear in all three novels: binary worlds and dualism, betrayed word and image of the history. In this work these newfound motives are put into the context with the general principles of literature in exile
German Images of Japan following the Sino-Japanese War : Egon Kunhardt and his Wanderjahre
This paper seeks to examine some aspects of the German image towards Japan after the Sino-Japanese war, mainly by analyzing Wanderjahre, a record of travels written by a young merchant of Hamburg. The author, Egon Kunhardt (1877-1970), was born in Hamburg, whose father ran one of the oldest trade companies of Hamburg. Egon traveled around the world from February 1895 to March 1897. In his bulky Wanderjahre, he vividly described the scenery of Japan and things Japanese as well as Japanese people in detail through the eyes of a young man in the street. Through his Wanderjahre, Egon showed his fair inter-cultural perspective as well as his fair and square judgment about Japan and other non-Western countries. It is quiet remarkable that such a young would-be merchant could cultivate his own image without prejudices. What was instrumental in forming such kind of images should be his father's well-experineced wisdom and the mercantile spirits of Hamburg before the establishment of the Weltpolitik at the turn of the century.departmental bulletin pape
Disjunctive programming
Disjunctive Programming is a technique and a discipline initiated by the author in the early 1970's, which has become a central tool for solving nonconvex optimization problems like pure or mixed integer programs, through convexification (cutting plane) procedures combined with enumeration. It has played a major role in the revolution in the state of the art of Integer Programming that took place roughly during the period 1990-2010. The main benefit that the reader may acquire from reading this book is a deeper understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and of the applications potential of disjunctive programming, which range from more efficient problem formulation to enhanced modeling capability and improved solution methods for integer and combinatorial optimization. Egon Balas is University Professor and Lord Professor of Operations Research at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business.
