Evaluating Petronas strategies in international business with China / Hashim Majid and Herman Putra Mohd Nazri
During the last half of the twentieth century, many barriers to international trade fell and a wave of firms began pursuing global strategies to gain a competitive advantage. However, some industries benefit more from globalisation than do others, and some nations have a comparative advantage over other nations in certain industries. To create a successful global strategy, managers first must understand the nature of global industries and the dynamics of global competition. There are many hurdles of doing business in China. One of the biggest hurdles is coming to terms with the real China, a land of great geographical, social, political, and industrial diversity. As a starting point, it's essential to cut through the thicket of misunderstandings and misinformation about doing business there. China's overall energy consumption ranks second in the world. Their energy demand will continue to rise over the next five years. China's growing demand for energy has caused this traditionally off-limits sector to gradually open up to increasingly larger scale foreign participation. Good opportunities exist in both upstream and downstream engineering, project supervision, license, and equipment, technology, consulting, marketing and supply sectors. PETRONAS has business interests in 35 countries. A Fortune 500 company, it first entered China in 1991 in the oil and gas exploration sector. Since then, the company has expanded into the downstream sector. In the early stage, PETRONAS took strategic approach by Joint Venture in China.
We would like to note here that PETRONAS early Joint Venture in China did note
face any marketing issue. However, problems appeared when they ventured into Wholly Owned subsidiary. From the Group's findings and analysis, we conclude that PETRONAS marketing department should be more aggressive. Also, in order to be more competitive and earn above average returns, they should form wholly owned subsidiary and expand horizontally. The future is bright with China's vast affluent market. It is hoped that this project paper would contribute positively to PETRONAS in general and PMCCL specifically in their endeavour in China
An evaluation of business-to-business electronic commerce marketplaces (e-marketplaces) in Malaysia / Nor Azzyati Hashim, Mardziah Hashim and Rogayah Abdul Majid
The development of business-to-business electronic commerce marketplaces
(B2B e-marketplaces) has influenced the way businesses are conducted. The
emergence of many types of e-marketplaces together with the increase use of
e-marketplaces allows many organizations to become e-market makers in the
electronic commerce environment. Nonetheless, too many B2B e-marketplaces
could become a challenge with e-marketplaces have shown numerous successes
and failures since early existence. With this background, this pap er discusses
the characteristics and success factors of B2B e-marketplaces offered in
Malaysia. A content analysis ofe-marketplace websites using the integrated
model from the Extended Model of Internet Commerce Adoption (eMICA) and
the Internet-Based B2B Stages of Growth enabled an examination of type,
ownership, B2B features and B2B stages of growth. A few e-marketplaces
were then selected as case studies to identify the success factors based on the
Framework of the Critical Success Factors Analysis fo r E-Marketplaces.
Overall, Malaysia B2B public e-marketplaces have shown positive growth
development stages across time with high adoption of e-commerce website
features. In addition, factors of strategic, functional, technology, build liquidity, create value and others were also essential for t e success of the e-marketplaces.
Indeed, good marketing strategies, multiple income streams,
value added information services and government initiatives are among keys
to success
Ez-crutches: an innovation of axillary crutches for orthopedic client / Suzana Yusof, Norhaini Majid and Noraini Hashim
Successful management of clients with orthopedic conditions is a critical process that can be compromised by several factors such as late ambulation and rehabilitation. Though the difficulties and complexities of recovery process management are relatively well known and established for any types of fractures, the use of axillary crutches is the most common and convenient as an assistive device. These crutches help the client in early ambulation to support the weak, injured, fractured, or post-operated leg. This project aims to innovate current axillary crutches into the most client-friendly, called Ez-Crutches to enhance the handling of the standard axillary crutches without hustle. An elastic Velcro strap is applied to the standard crutches to secure it whenever the clients lift their hands. Thus, this innovation could prevent the crutches from fall, which leads to difficulty for the clients to pick it up that may cause further injuries. Therefore, this innovative project will be offering a new potential device that enhance the therapeutic intervention in the orthopedic field. This project's extension would be proposed to the Malaysian Orthopedic Association for an endorsement of this Ez-Crutches usage

Recycling behavior among students in Universiti Melaka Kampus Bandaraya / Nur Syamimi Abdul Majid and Nurfatin Inani Mohd Taib
Our current state of recycling percentage is only at 10.5 percent while other countries have gone far with 70 percent of recycling. This shows that Malaysia is still at the back and needs an enhancement (Ismail, 2014). Recycle is only 10.5%. Datuk Noriah Hashim says that this happens due to the lack of awareness within all of the community. They don’t acknowledge about how the recycle happens. She also states that if this situation is still in the same state then recycling performance in this country won’t be improved. Thus, the environment won’t be as pleasant as how other countries are. Local states have undergone a research where only 0.8 kilogram of wastage has been produced by the local households. However, this could not withstand all 28millions of people in Malaysia if they produce 0.8 kilograms wastage for each of them. She says that government expects for 33 000 tons of wastage would be produced in 2020. However, this figure is unexpectedly reaching in 2012. The awareness of the people should be enhanced by giving them as much knowledge that they deserve. She also mentions about the statistic according to how it should be. 44.5 percent is for food, 13.8 percent is for plastic followed by 12.1 percent for pampers and 5.8 percent is for other wastages. Datuk Noriah Hashim also hopes that it will be aroused to 22 percent in 2020 which she thinks that government has the capability of arising the percentage

STUDI PEMIKIRAN MUSTAFA AKYOL DAN HASHIM KAMALI TERHADAP PENERAPAN SANKSI APOSTASI: ANALISIS HERMENEUTIKA NEGOSIATIF
The death penalty for people who left from Islam is contrary to religious freedom. Human rights, which is the dominant discourse today, calls for a re-reading of the death penalty. The implication, there are many scholars who re-think the punishment of apostasy. Among them are Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali who goes into this line. If the first name lives in the middle of a society where Muslims are a minority (America), then it is different from the last name. Hashim Kamali disseminated his ideas in Malaysia, one of the countries adhering to classical Islamic traditions. The fundamental question in this study is how the sanctions of apostasy are discussed again by the two thinkers.
This type of research is qualitative with future data on a library study (library research). These research data are derived from the representative works of Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali on the subject of apostasy. Furthermore, the findings of their thinking are studied through the framework of negotiative hermeneutic theory. This theory was initiated by Khaled Abou El Fadl who pointed to the negotiations between the three entities, the author, the text and the reader. There are three key variables in discussing the thinking of Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali. From texts and authority, the discourse of authoritarianism to the anatomy of the discourses of authority. Based on that, the approach taken here is socio-legal.
The first conclusion both Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali have rejected the death penalty for apostasy. Second conclusion is using three variables when being analyzed by negotiative hermeneutic. In text and authority is able to be seen how a text is formed and its relationship with the social reality that surrounds it. The differences between the public who became the audience of them necessitate the differences in steps in the re-reading of this topic. On the discourse of authoritarianism can be reviewed the formation of non-authoritarian law by placing it as an entity that is constantly changing. Besides meeting the five prerequisites set by the hermeneutics of negotiations. In the anatomy of authoritarian discourse, there are three things that are discussed: consistency, a selective attitude to signs to the balance of interests and rationality. These two thinkers consistently use their respective steps in this topic. While Mustafa Akyol is selective to the sign, unlike Hashim Kamali. Despite this, they met at the same point with the conclusion that there is no death penalty for apostate perpetrators. This discussion is based on the success of both merging the importance of preserving religion and protecting human rights
Exploring the mediating role of students’ satisfaction towards personal record building in the influence of self-regulated learning strategies on employability skills / Sarah Nadiah Rashidi, Faizah Abd Majid and Hamimah Hashim
The issue of employability skills has always been the agenda of stakeholders like the government, universities, and employers in the industry. Dynamic changes to the employability skills needed at workplace require stakeholders to find ways to stay relevant. As an approach to develop desired employability skills, the Personal Record Building (PRB) system was introduced by a technical university. Like ePortfolio, the PRB system mainly relies on students’ ability to self-regulate and record their participation and accomplishment in students’ activities through a merit system. Therefore, it is crucial to explore the relationship between students’ satisfaction towards the PRB, self-regulated learning strategies and employability skills. The objectives of this study are to investigate the influence of self-regulated learning strategies like goal setting, help-seeking and self-monitoring on employability skills and to examine the role of students’ satisfaction towards PRB as a mediator in the relationship between self-regulated learning strategies and employability skills. This study collected data from 159 final year students at a selected technical university through a quantitative method. The data was analysed using SmartPLS structural model assessment. It was discovered that goal setting, self-monitoring and help-seeking strategies significantly influence employability skills. However, students’ satisfaction towards PRB system only mediates the relationship between help-seeking strategies and employability skill. The findings could help universities to assess and improve their services and the PRB system, which would benefit students in developing their self-regulated learning strategies and consequently, their employability skills
Molecular dynamics of anhydrous glycolipid self-assembly in lamellar and hexagonal phases
The molecular dynamics of a synthetic branched chain glycolipid,
2-decyl-tetradecyl-beta-D-maltoside (C(14-10)G(2)), in the dry
assemblage of smectic and columnar liquid crystal phases has been
studied by dielectric spectroscopy as a function of frequency and
temperature during the cooling process. Strong relaxation modes were
observed corresponding to the tilted smectic and columnar phases,
respectively. At low frequency (similar to 900 Hz to 1 kHz) in the
smectic phase, Process I* was observed due to the tilted sugar bilayer
structure. The process continued in the columnar phase (Process I) with
an abrupt dynamic change due to phase transition in the frequency range
of similar to 1.3 kHz to 22 kHz. An additional process (Process II) was
observed in the columnar phase with a broader relaxation in the
frequency range of similar to 10 Hz to 1 kHz. A bias field dependence
study was performed in the columnar phase and we found that the
relaxation strength rapidly decreased with increased applied dc bias
field. This relaxation originates from a collective motion of polar
groups within the columns. The results of dielectric spectroscopy were
supported by a molecular dynamics simulation study to identify the
origin of the relaxation processes, which could be related to the
chirality and hydrogen bonds of the sugar lipid
