On a generalization of the Constantin–Lax–Majda equation
We present evidence on the global existence of solutions of De Gregorio's equation, based on numerical computation and a mathematical criterion analogous to the Beale-Kato-Majda theorem. Its meaning in the context of a generalized Constantin-Lax-Majda equation will be discussed. We then argue that a convection term, if set in a proper form and in a proper magnitude, can deplete solutions of blow-up
On the measures of DiPerna and Majda
summary:DiPerna and Majda generalized Young measures so that it is possible to describe "in the limit" oscillation as well as concentration effects of bounded sequences in -spaces. Here the complete description of all such measures is stated, showing that the "energy" put at "infinity" by concentration effects can be described in the limit basically by an arbitrary positive Radon measure. Moreover, it is shown that concentration effects are intimately related to rays (in a suitable locally convex geometry) in the set of all DiPerna-Majda measures. Finally, a complete characterization of extreme points and extreme rays is established
Kalman filtering and smoothing for linear wave equations with model error
Filtering is a widely used methodology for the incorporation of observed data into time-evolving systems. It provides an online approach to state estimation inverse problems when data are acquired sequentially. The Kalman filter plays a central role in many applications because it is exact for linear systems subject to Gaussian noise, and because it forms the basis for many approximate filters which are used in high-dimensional systems. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of model error on the Kalman filter, in the context of linear wave propagation problems. A consistency result is proved when no model error is present, showing recovery of the true signal in the large data limit. This result, however, is not robust: it is also proved that arbitrarily small model error can lead to inconsistent recovery of the signal in the large data limit. If the model error is in the form of a constant shift to the velocity, the filtering and smoothing distributions only recover a partial Fourier expansion, a phenomenon related to aliasing. On the other hand, for a class of wave velocity model errors which are time dependent, it is possible to recover the filtering distribution exactly, but not the smoothing distribution. Numerical results are presented which corroborate the theory, and also propose a computational approach which overcomes the inconsistency in the presence of model error, by relaxing the model
Apple (<i>Malus domestica</i> Borkh.) Cultivar ‘Majda’, a Naturally Non-Browning Cultivar: An Assessment of Its Qualities
Browning of apple and apple products has been a topic of numerous research and there is a great number of methods available for browning prevention. However, one of the most efficient ways, and the one most acceptable for the consumers, is the selection of a non-browning cultivar. Cultivar ‘Majda’ is a Slovenian cultivar, a cross between ‘Jonatan’ and ‘Golden Noble’. In this study, it was thoroughly examined and compared to the well-known cultivar ‘Golden Delicious’ with the aim to decipher the reason for non-browning. We have determined the content of sugars, organic acids, vitamin C, glutathione and phenolics in apple flesh, with the addition of phenolic content in apple peel and leaves. The change in color in halves and pomace was also measured and the activity of peroxidase (POX) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) were determined. Additionally, the analyses of flesh were repeated post-storage. The most prominent results were high acidity (malic acid), low phenol content, especially hydroxycinnamic acid and flavan-3-ol content of cultivar ‘Majda’ in comparison to ‘Golden Delicious’, and no difference in PPO activity between cultivars. After the overview of the results, we believe that both low phenol content and high reduced glutathione content impact the non-browning characteristics of cultivar ‘Majda’
Unveiling the molecular mechanisms behind non-browning phenotype in the apple cultivar 'Majda' (Malus domestica Borkh.) by a comprehensive investigation.
Fruit flesh browning is a natural oxidative process that occurs after cutting or processing, resulting in a dark-brown coloration. This phenomenon can significantly impact the production and marketability of fresh cut fruit products. While antioxidant compounds can partially mitigate this browning, they can also affect the overall quality and sensory properties of the fresh products. In this study, we investigated the regulation of a natural non-browning trait in the apple cultivar 'Majda' compared to the browning reference cultivar 'Golden Delicious' using a multidisciplinary approach. Our findings revealed that the non-browning phenotype of 'Majda' is governed by multiple mechanisms, particularly characterized by distinct concentrations of chlorogenic acid and the expression of the polyphenol oxidase (MdPPO) gene. Metabolite analysis and gene expression profiling further demonstrated the involvement of organic acids and glutathione in preventing oxidative browning. Additionally, the unique non-browning behavior of 'Majda' was confirmed through a DPPH• kinetic assay, which highlighted its superior antioxidant activity. Based on these results, we propose 'Majda' as a potential candidate for breeding programs aimed at selecting novel non-browning varieties, thereby enhancing the sustainability of pre-cut fresh products
Fragility and recovery of colonial architecture: toward a sustainable approach in Morocco.
In many ex-colonial countries, the built heritage during the dominant regimes is underlooked.
Some countries, such as Morocco-the subject of the current research-have recently begun to take initiatives
by launching inventories to classify buildings from that period, with the aim of preventing their
demolition. The paper focuses on some specialised building types (industrial buildings, commercial, etc.)
that are briefly mentioned in these technical inventories, as opposed to other types (residential,
administrative, school buildings, etc.). The research is deepened by studying the now-abandoned covered
market in the city of Casablanca, by observing the evolution of its original state alongside with its
surrounding environment leading to the current state of the market today. The study adopts different
methods from the graphic-semantic analysis, thanks to archival research and site surveys, a type-
technological framing, and a parametric reconstruction using H.B.I.M. Recovery design reflections
showing how many parameters are required for a hypothetical redevelopment, from respecting the original
history of the building to meeting changing human needs
Some aspects of family and delinquency in works of Majda Pšunder
V magistrski nalogi smo proučili nekatere vidike družine in delinkvence v delih pedagoginje Majde Pšunder.
Master thesis studies and researches various aspects of family and delinquency in works written by teacher and educator Ms Majda Pšunder. Research originates in her biography as the author has dealt in depth with the aspect of family and youth delinquency in her abundant academic career. For the purposes of this master thesis her chosen works have been chronologically reordered and later on presented through their important content characteristics, theoretical basis and research results. Family is a primary unit which by setting examples and boundaries, consistency, communication and teaching about independence and freedom leads and directs a child through life. With growing up and being integrated in educational institutions family no longer presents a primary identification pattern to a child. Other factors interfere and effect child\u27s perspective of the world and delinquent behaviour which is most frequently seen at school. School is an educational institution with a ready-made educational plan and in case of a child\u27s delinquent behaviour it acts according to the alternative disciplinary measures and later on proper disciplinary measures. Consistent cooperation between parents and teachers is most important for a successful child\u27s and teenager\u27s development.
For the purposes of this master thesis personal individual interview with the author herself has been carried out as we were interested in motifs for her academic path as well as her interests in this specific field, personal goals and contentment. Interviews with seven other associates of professor Majda Pšunder PhD have been carried out
A sparse resolution of the DiPerna-Majda gap problem for D Euler equations
A central question which originates in the celebrated work in the 1980\u27s of DiPerna and Majda asks what is the optimal decay such that uniform rates of the vorticity maximal functions guarantee strong convergence without concentrations of approximate solutions to energy-conserving weak solutions of the D Euler equations with vortex sheet initial data. A famous result of Majda (1993) shows , as a sufficient condition for the lack of concentrations, while the expected gap remains as an open question. In this paper we resolve the DiPerna-Majda D gap problem: In striking contrast to the well-known case of distinguished sign vortex sheets, we identify as the optimal regularity for mixed sign vortex sheets that rules out concentrations.
For the proof, we propose a novel method to construct explicitly solutions with mixed sign to the D Euler equations in such a way that wild behaviour creates within the relevant geometry of \emph{sparse} cubes (i.e., these cubes are not necessarily pairwise disjoint, but their possible overlappings can be controlled in a sharp fashion). Such a strategy is inspired by the recent work of the first author and Milman \cite{DM} where strong connections between energy conservation and sparseness are established.24 page
Dealing the Majda Koren’s literature works at the classroom teaching in the primary school
Children’s literature comprises a complex of belles-lettres texts, written by adult authors who establish a dialogue with a child in this way. The author's self-understanding or how the adults see the dialogue with the child is seen in literary works and autopoetics. The latter is about the author's explanation of their own view on young adult literature creation. Children’s literature is very diverse, considering the perspective from which the author presents the textual reality.
In my thesis I researched the prevailing perspectives in literary works of Majda Koren, and how the pupil's feedback differs based on different perspectives.
The introductory part is focused on presenting the Slovene children’s literature writer Majda Koren and her literary work.
In the central part various perspectives that are characterized in young adult literature are presented, and Koren's works are analyzed according to the prevailing perspective. I figured out that the perspective of reconciliation is prevailent in her works, which means that the author identifies herself with the child's soul and mostly writes about the troubles of heroes that prevent the children’s world to be like they want it to be.
In the final part lesson plans for four literary works of Majda Koren are written. I carried out the lessons in the 5th grade of primary school. The students’ feedback to the discussed works was positive, but it differed according to the perspective. They liked works with the realistic perspective and a hero they could identify with the most.
With every discussed literary work pupils were also recreating literary works. The easiest for them was to write fantasy texts – about themselves as the allmighty hero who solves all the problems. Somewhat harder for them was to describe real events that they experienced, because they could not use their imagination in this case.
In the end I did an interview with Majda Koren
DiPerna-Majda measures and uniform integrability
summary:The purpose of this note is to discuss the relationship among Rosenthal's modulus of uniform integrability, Young measures and DiPerna-Majda measures. In particular, we give an explicit characterization of this modulus and state a criterion of the uniform integrability in terms of these measures. Further, we show applications to Fatou's lemma
