Implementation in Altran for Rational Function Integration and Polynomial Factorization

    No full text
Title: Implementation in Altran for Rational Function Integration and Polynomial Factorization , Author: Mahmoud M. Makhlouf, Location: ThodeThis project is a study involving the application of the ALTRAN system to rational function integration. A discussion and the implementation of two methods are given, one by Hermite [HER 12] and a second by Horowitz [HOR 70]. Included is a brief discussion of the integration of the transcendental part over the rational field using polynomial factorization over the integers. Furthermore, an extension for multivariate rational function integration and multivariate polynomial factorization is included.ThesisMaster of Science (MS

This Editorial is focussed around Influenza as a potential pandemic threat and is written by Mahmoud M Naguib, who is part of the Portal Editorial Committee. Mahmoud M Naguib, PhD, Docent, is working as a researcher at Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, Infections and immunity; Åke Lundkvist.Editorials is a new feature on the Pathogens Portal. The Editorials are focussed on topics within the Portal scope of pathogens, and pandemic preparedness topics, for example, scientific break-throughs, comments, opinions, or viewpoint. Some editorials are be written in-house by the Portal team, but most will be contributed by members of the Portal Editorial Committee, or external contributors. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Materials and process selection for engineering design / Mahmoud M. Farag.

Includes bibliographical references and index.book fair 2012xix, 432 p. :"Which do you choose first, a material or a process? Whichever way you do it, your choices directly impact the design, cost, and performance in service of a new or redesigned product. The decision-making process involves vastly different activities that, regardless of their differences, cannot be performed in isolation. Illuminating the holistic decision-making approach of concurrent engineering, Materials and Process Selection for Engineering Design, Second Edition illustrates how the activities of design, materials, and process selection, and economic and environmental analysis fit together and the tradeoffs that can be made when developing a new product or changing an existing model. The second edition adds or revises topics such as environmental, function, and aesthetics consideration in design; environmental impact assessment of materials and processes; life cycle and recycling economics; and materials substitution."--BOOK JACKET

Performance analysis of RIS-assisted downlink NOMA wireless systems under D2D interference

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are considered a key paradigm to improve the coverage of beyond-fifth-generation (B5G) networks as signal reflectors. Moreover, device-to-device (D2D) communications and non-orthogonal multiple-access (NOMA) schemes will enable networks with a large number of devices for the Internet of Things. This paper analyzes the performance of the downlink of B5G network, where both a NOMA-empowered BS and a RIS support cellular communications co-existing with inband D2D transmissions. We derive approximate expressions of the outage probability, the cumulative distribution function (CDF), and the probability density function (PDF) of the signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio (SINR) of the NOMA-connected users and the D2D receivers. We further derive similar expressions under orthogonal multiple access (OMA) transmission for comparison purpose. Then, we numerically compute the ergodic rate of each user for a given power allocation. The derived expressions are validated by extensive simulations

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
