The Internal Justice of the United Nations: A Critical History 1945–2015. By Abdelaziz Megzari
Abdelaziz Megzari, with more than 35 years of experience as a UN official, has made a useful contribution in preserving an institutional record of the highly-politicised debates leading up to the development of the UN’s internal justice system. As the author notes in the Preface itself, on 1 July 2009, after a lengthy reform process, the UN completely abandoned its much-maligned system of internal justice, which had been in place since its creation, for a modernised internal justice machinery. A specialised book such as this one would have been of much greater significance had it been published during the reform process. Nevertheless, this book offers a useful record of the institutional history of the UN’s internal justice system, providing some fascinating insights into the political climate of the Cold War era and its impact on the UN’s internal law vis-à-vis its personnel affairs
Autism Spectrum Disorders are a complex set of neurodevelopmental disorders, characterized by a qualitative alteration in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted, stereotyped behavior. To remedy this communication deficit, a partnership between parents of autistic children and healthcare professionals is essential for the successful medical and psychological care of these children. The expertise of parents would help to improve the identification of the child\u27s difficulties and resources by the care team, with a view to listing elements that are unrecognizable and unobservable within the care structures. To develop a bibliographical review aimed at understanding the constraints to communication between parents of children with autism and healthcare professionals, while proposing prospects for improving this partnership. This is a bibliographical study carried out in two databases, PubMed and Google Scholar. The inclusion criteria concerned articles in French and English published up to 2024 using the keywords “parents of autistic children”, “communication”, “barriers”, “constraints”, “health professionals”, “care”, “Prise en charge”. 20 articles were selected. The main constraints to communication between parents of children with autism and professionals in care facilities are related to health literacy about autism and the perception of each of the therapeutic partners in the care of children with autism. For healthcare staff, several studies report a lack of knowledge about autism, a lack of training and work overload. They also note a poor use of communication techniques, accentuated by cultural differences between parents and healthcare professionals, leading to a divergence in their perception of this disability. As for the parents, they report a high level of stress and a deterioration in their quality of life. This parental stress remains an experience influenced by parents\u27 expectations and mistaken beliefs about the disorder. What\u27s more, parents of children with autism, because of their need for social and emotional support and their difficulty in understanding information conveyed in technical language by healthcare professionals, experience a lack of trust in care providers. To improve communication between autism therapeutic partners, it is crucial to strengthen the training of healthcare professionals so that they are better equipped to interact with families, implement strategies to reduce parents\u27 stress, and increase their level of health literacy. Communication between parents of children with autism and healthcare professionals is undeniably the cornerstone of the success of the child\u27s therapeutic project. However, several constraints often hinder this essential communication. Strategies for improvement must be adopted in order to establish a constructive dialogue and foster an environment conducive to the development of the autistic child.

Research has been focused on finding new materials that have higher efficiency. While most research focuses on electronic thermoelectric materials based on solid materials, recent research also started to head towards ionic thermoelectricity utilizing the ionic conductivity of liquids and gels. Recently, more materials with p-types thermoelectric properties have been developed than n-type. More n-type thermoelectric materials are needed to be developed to produce more energy from thermoelectric modules. This paper aims to (1) illustrate the concept of combining electronic and ionic thermoelectric material properties, (2) develop an n-type thermoelectric generator using MnO2 nanopowders and cement paste which acts as a core of the sample, (3) present a novel way to compensate the strength loss through casting high strength concrete shell around the thermoelectric core. Finally, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the role of KOH, MnO2, inner core size, and the effect of temperature gradient on ionic conductivity.Peer reviewe

On Vector-Valued Schrodinger Operators in Lp-spaces
2016 - 2017We construct a realization Ap of A in the spaces Lp(Rd;Cm), 1 p < 1,
that generates a contractive strongly continuous semigroup. First, by using form
methods, we obtain generation of holomorphic semigroups when the potential V
is symmetric. In the general case, we use some other techniques of functional
analysis and operator theory to get a m-dissipative realization. But in this case
the semigroup is not, in general, analytic.
We characterize the domain of the operator Ap in Lp(Rd;Cm) by using rstly
a non commutative version of the Dore-Venni theorem and then a perturbation
theorem due to Okazawa.
We discuss some properties of the semigroup such as analyticity, compactness
and positivity. We establish ultracontractivity and deduce that the semigroup is
given by an integral kernel. Here, the kernel is actually a matrix whose entries
satisfy Gaussian upper estimates.
Further estimates of the kernel entries are given for potentials with a diagonal
of polynomial growth. Suitable estimates lead to the asymptotic behavior of the
eigenvalues of the matrix Schr odinger operator when the potential is symmetric. [edited by Author]XVI n.s. (XXX ciclo
The V3D socket: Designing a Volume-adjustable, Affordable, 3D printable, Transradial, Prosthetic socket
The conventional fabrication process of prosthetic sockets is known for being labor-intensive and time-consuming. It takes the user to wait 2-5 weeks to receive the prosthetic socket. In addition, most of the conventional sockets have fixed volumes that do not consider the volume fluctuations that the user experience daily because of muscle activities and comorbid medical conditions. 3D printing has shown promising results in producing lower limb sockets; however, upper limb sockets are overlooked. The goal of this master thesis is to design and fabricate a volume-adjustable, affordable, 3D printable transradial, prosthetic socket. In this research, the V3D (Volume-adjustable, 3D printable) socket has been developed with a material cost of only €30. The socket provides a volume-adjustable closure system around the residual limb, easiness of donning and doffing without skin shearing, full elbow extension, high range of flexion, low weight, and breathability. The socket was designed to be able to withstand a load of 50N that can be applied axially or transversely at the tip of the socket without breakage. The designed socket was 3D printed using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) printing technique, from tough Polylactic Acid (tough PLA). Mechanical and human assessments have been conducted to evaluate the strength, function, and comfort of the developed socket. Results have shown that the socket managed to withstand a load up to 100N that was applied axially and transversely, respectively, without showing any signs of damage. During testing the socket with 5 participants for evaluating its comfort and function, the socket has succeeded to achieve full contact with the residual limbs, while offering volume-adjustability that accommodated the differences in size and properties of the residual limbs among participants. Not only that, but also, the socket succeeded to allow full elbow extension, a range of flexion up to 95°, and donning and doffing in less than 10 seconds without applying any shear forces on the skin. The developed V3D socket has proven the possibility to 3D print reliable sockets using the FDM printing technique with a total labor time of 4 hours per socket, and a total fabrication time of 5 days with a material cost of only €30. In addition, the socket has proved that it can be fitted using a caliper in case 3D scanners are not available. That advantage makes producing the V3D socket feasible in communities that do not have access to 3D scanners. Furthermore, the socket can be parameterized such that users with similar geometry and comparable sizes of residual limbs can fit the same socket, which would make the fabrication process less labor-intensive and less time-consuming as it was aimed for.Mechanical Engineering | BioMechanical Desig
