Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Funksjonshemming og profesjonsutdanninger i lys av studenter, lærere og praksisveilederes erfaringer. En kvalitativ studie.
Get PDFFormålet med denne studien har vært å utforske hva som fremmer og hva hemmer deltagelse i profesjonsutdanninger for personer med funksjonsnedsettelse. Studien ble initiert og finansiert av Høgskolen i Sør-Trøndelag (HIST), og fra 2016 videreført av Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU).
En generell økning i antall studenter, samt politiske føringer for å styrke inkludering og likeverdige utdanningsmuligheter, har bidratt til et større mangfold blant studenter i høyere utdanning de siste par tiår. Forskning på hvordan studenter med funksjonsnedsettelse mestrer høyere utdanning og hvordan utdannings-institusjonene legger til rette for en mer heterogen studentpopulasjon er generelt begrenset, og spesielt innen profesjonsutdanninger.
Studiens empiriske base er generert gjennom individuelle dybdeintervju med 14 studenter med synlige og mindre synlige funksjonsnedsettelser, samt fokusgruppediskusjoner med 13 lærere og 8 praksisveiledere. Deltakerne er rekruttert fra 10 bachelorprogram innen helsefag, sosialfag og pedagogikk.
Avhandlingen består av tre vitenskapelige artikler. Et hovedfunn i artikkel I er at studentene med funksjonsnedsettelse arbeidet hardt for å bevise at de duger i rollen som profesjonsstudenter og for å oppnå anerkjennelse som fremtidige profesjonsutøvere. For å minimere et potensielt stigma som følge av funksjons-nedsettelsen og å få vist frem sine ressurser tok studentene et personlig ansvar for stillferdig å kompensere for funksjonsutfordringer som de opplevde i utdanningen.
Artikkel II viser at praksis er en særlig viktig arena for studenter med funksjonsnedsettelse til å utforske og profilere sin arbeidsevne. Imidlertid erfarte studentene praksis som krevende, der profesjonsutdanningenes moduloppbygging ga begrenset mulighet for tilrettelegging på deltid. I tillegg opplevde de manglende strukturer for planlegging og samarbeid med profesjonsprogrammet og praksisfeltet, hvilket medførte risiko for at de ikke fikk den tilretteleggingen de hadde behov for, og dermed heller ikke fikk vise frem sine ressurser slik de ønsket.
Artikkel III omhandler lærere og praksisveiledere sine erfaringer med å legge utdanningen til rette for studenter med funksjonsnedsettelse. Begge grupper erfarte at de måtte ta vanskelige avgjørelser vedrørende studenters kvalifikasjoner og fremtidige yrkesmuligheter, men at de manglet tydelige kvalifikasjonsindikatorer å vurdere etter, samt kunnskap om tilrettelegging og tid til å følge opp. De ga også uttrykk for begrenset støtte fra utdanningsinstitusjonen og strukturer for samhandling.
Oppsummert på tvers av det empiriske datamaterialet, avdekker studien intrikate interaksjonsprosesser mellom aktørene; studenter med funksjonsnedsettelse, lærere, og praksisveiledere. En overordnet tolkning av det som skjer er at studentene søker anerkjennelse som profesjonsstudenter, men at de i sin inntreden i høyere utdanning blir møtt av ambivalente dørvakter. Studentenes manglende åpenhet og de ansattes taushetsplikt vedrørende studenters funksjonsnedsettelse bidro til å legge lokk på temaet. Studien viser også at profesjonsutdanninger med integrert praksis-læring kan by på positive utdanningsmuligheter for studenter med funksjons-nedsettelse. Samtidig kan profesjonsutdanningenes oppbygging, med heltids fagmoduler som bygger på hverandre, utgjøre en strukturell barriere for studenter med funksjonsnedsettelse som planlegger for et fremtidig arbeidsliv på deltid.
Utdanningsinstitusjonene utfordres til å vurdere hvordan de inkluderer og legger til rette for læring for en mangfoldig studentgruppe. Jeg peker på forbedrings-muligheter gjennom systemer for å bygge kunnskap og å ivareta samarbeid og informasjonsflyt, samt universell utforming av læringsmiljø, undervisnings- og evalueringsformer. I tillegg tematiseres utfordringer ved kvalifikasjonsindikatorene i profesjonsutdanninger. Avhandlingen drøfter potensiale for et perspektivskifte vedrørende synet på personer med funksjonsnedsettelse; fra en individuell «defekt» som bør kompenseres for, til å anerkjenne at personer med funksjonsnedsettelse kan bidra med viktig kompetanse og unike perspektiver inn i fremtidens profesjonsyrker

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
