The successes of the new Turkish assertiveness have helped to initiate a much- needed reconciliation process between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Turkey derives its assertiveness not only from Foreign Minister Davutoğlu’s vision of sustainable peace but also from its shared history and cultural practices throughout the region. Turkey’s efforts could strengthen the efforts of the international community to integrate BiH into European and trans-Atlantic bodies

GOP Çankaya 06700 Ankara TÜRKİYEThe International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion on 22 July 2010, affirmed the legality of the Republic of Kosovo’s declaration of independence. Yet it is an unspoken truth that Kosovo needs a compromise with Serbia to receive international recognition. Turkey can contribute to bridging relations between Belgrade and Pristina by identifying ways of cooperation on technical issues concerning the living standards of all Kosovar citizens without getting entangled on the issue of recognition. Turkey can play a complimentary and even crucial role that could actually ease the task of the European Union between Serbia and Kosovo

No full textThe critical edition of an opera has to tackle problems partially unknown to the literary text criticism. Such issues derive primarily from the multilayered character of the operatic text, which is made of words, sounds, scenery, stage action, transmitted from sources of different sorts (scores, librettos, stage arrangements, set design sketches). Secondly, problems arise from the nature of musical and theatrical languages: the written text is not an end in itself, but a premise to the properly artistic event, the performance. The critical editing of an opera must be concerned not only to reconstruct an “authentic” text, that is a text in accordance with the author’s thought, but also to how the same text can be used by today’s performers in order to arrange different stagings.
The author illustrates these issues with examples from 19th-century operas edited by him—Rossini’s Adina and Bellini’s I Puritani—which have already passed the scrutiny of the performance

No full textBetween the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries many literary, figurative, and musical works took inspiration from the lives of celebrated ancient and modern artists. In particular, the unhappy events in the life of Torquato Tasso were of the greatest appeal; the author of Aminta and La Gerusalemme liberata became an emblem of the romantic artist, constantly in conflict with the surrounding world. Among these works, Ferretti’s and Donizetti’s melodramma semiserio Torquato Tasso (1833) is unique in the fact that the authors let the character Tasso to deliver poetic fragments extracted from the works of the real Tasso, interspersed throughout the dramatic dialogue. This device is aimed to outline the portrait of the hero in his complex relationship with the courtly society, and to show the poet in the very act of creating; it is highlighted both in the libretto (by the use of italics) and in the music: citations appear only in recitative sections, within which some of them are emphasized by the use of the arioso singing. The essay shows how this calculated use of literary and musical devices generates a multi-layered game of mirrors. Through it one can listen, as in perspective, different voices: that of the character; that of the real poet, or rather of the image the posterity has constructed of him. Lastly, the voice of the opera’s authors, who use Tasso’s poetry in order to express their concerns about of the Italian literary and musical tradition, in a historical juncture in which its identity is being challenged

Composite Cu-LaFeO3 conversion coatings on a 18Cr ferritic stainless steel for IT-SOFC interconnects: Effect of long-term air exposure at 700◦C on Cr diffusion barrier and electrical properties
No full textIn our previous study copper oxide additions were used to accelerate the formation of perovskite LaFeO3 conversion coatings on stainless steels from molten carbonate baths. Incorporation of copper particles into the growing coating was an additional effect resulting in the formation of a composite Cu-LaFeO3 structure. In continuation to our previous study, the aim of this work is to report the effect of copper additions on long-term stability and performance of perovskite conversion coatings under IT-SOFC interconnect conditions. To this end, a Cu-LaFeO3 coated K41 18Cr ferritic stainless steel was examined in air at 700◦C up to 1000 h. In order to simulate properly the situation of a real IT-SOFC cell, Area Specific Resistance (ASR) and Cr-barrier properties of the coated steel were evaluated simultaneously with a special coating characterization setup. Studies were conducted by comparison with single-phase LaFeO3 coatings obtained in a molten carbonate bath similar to that used for the formation of the composite Cu-LaFeO3 coatings but without the addition of copper oxide. Copper addition did not change the general morphology of the perovskite coating, which remains a multi-layer coating, being composed of an outer LaFeO3 crystalline layer, a middle Fe-rich oxide and two inner Fe-Cr rich oxide layers. However, copper was beneficial in promoting a thinner and more stable coating structure along with finer perovskite grain size. These structural improvements were further confirmed by the results obtained with electrical measurements that showed a better ASR behavior of the Cu-LaFeO3 coatings. On the other hand, no relevant copper effects could be detected on the coating oxidation stability and on the Cr-barrier properties of the perovskite conversion coatings. Both LaFeO3 and Cu-LaFeO3 coatings showed similarly high coating stability and excellent Cr-barrier capability in experiments conducted at 700◦C up to 1000 h. In definitive, dual-phase Cu-LaFeO3 seem more promising systems for IT-SOFC interconnects than single-phase LaFeO3 conversion coatings, although further improvements in ASR electrical properties are needed. © The Author(s) 2018
