Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Capacitismo e trabalho: uma investigação da experiência profissional de servidores com deficiência de uma universidade federal do Sul do Brasil
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia, Florianópolis, 2023.No Brasil, apesar das políticas de reserva de vagas em concursos públicos e da Lei Brasileira de Inclusão da Pessoa com Deficiência, as instituições frequentemente falham em assegurar condições efetivas de permanência para os servidores com deficiência, tornando evidente a persistência de barreiras que dificultam sua inclusão. Este estudo, conduzido em meio à incipiência de pesquisas focadas nas narrativas desses servidores, direcionou-se à compreensão de como o capacitismo molda as trajetórias profissionais dos servidores públicos com deficiência no contexto de uma universidade federal do sul do Brasil. Em consonância com referências teóricas provenientes dos estudos feministas da deficiência, da teoria aleijada e de uma perspectiva marxista do trabalho, a pesquisa adotou uma abordagem qualitativa exploratória. Utilizando entrevistas narrativas e um questionário sociodemográfico, informações foram coletadas e submetidas a uma análise temática. Dezessete servidores da instituição participaram da pesquisa. Os resultados desdobraram-se em dois artigos. O primeiro abordou os aspectos institucionais do capacitismo, examinando como a individualização da responsabilidade pelo acesso prejudica a experiência laboral dos servidores com deficiência. Revelou-se que a interação entre o capacitismo e o neoliberalismo resulta na perpetuação de ambientes inacessíveis, manifestados em processos burocráticos que impedem a adaptação dos espaços e na transferência de setores dos servidores com deficiência. Eles são obrigados a lutar pelo acesso individualmente, o que se traduz em uma busca exaustiva por mínimas garantias de acessibilidade. O segundo artigo centrou-se nas práticas anticapacitistas baseadas em uma ética do cuidado no contexto do trabalho dos servidores com deficiência. Este revelou que as práticas anticapacitistas, tanto institucionalizadas na legislação da carreira dos servidores quanto aquelas impulsionadas por colegas para adaptar os processos de trabalho, contribuem para a integração sustentável desses trabalhadores na organização. Em conclusão, esta pesquisa levanta reflexões para o desenvolvimento de políticas de gestão de pessoas nas instituições federais de ensino superior, visando a criação de ambientes de trabalho efetivamente inclusivos, que reconheçam e valorizem as diversas corporalidades dos servidores. Este estudo também incita a reflexão sobre os impactos da ideologia neoliberal no setor público e no ensino superior, apontando para possíveis direções de pesquisa futuras. Ressalta-se a necessidade de ampliar essa investigação para outras universidades para identificar e analisar práticas institucionais que possam favorecer a inclusão dos servidores com deficiência.Abstract: In Brazil, despite policies regarding reserved vacancies in public competitions and the Brazilian Inclusion Law of People with Disability, institutions often fail to ensure effective conditions for the retention of employees with disabilities, making evident the persistence of barriers that hinder their inclusion. This study, conducted in the midst of the early stages of research focused on the narratives of these employees, aimed to understand how ableism shapes the professional trajectories of public servants with disabilities within the context of a federal university in southern Brazil. Aligned with theoretical references from Feminist Disability Studies, Crip Theory, and a Marxist perspective on labor, the research adopted an exploratory qualitative approach. Using narrative interviews and a sociodemographic questionnaire, information was collected and subjected to thematic analysis. Seventeen institution employees participated in the research. The results unfolded into two articles. The first addressed the institutional aspects of ableism, examining how the individualization of responsibility for access detrimentally affects the work experience of employees with disabilities. It was revealed that the interplay between ableism and neoliberalism results in the perpetuation of inaccessible environments, manifested in bureaucratic processes that hinder space adaptation and the reassignment of sectors for employees with disabilities. They are compelled to individually advocate for access, resulting in a strenuous pursuit of minimal accessibility guarantees. The second article focused on anti-ableism practices based on an ethic of care within the context of work for employees with disabilities. It was found that anti-ableism practices, both institutionalized within career legislation and those driven by colleagues to adapt work processes, contribute to the sustainable integration of these workers within the organization. In conclusion, this research raises reflections for the development of personnel management policies within federal higher education institutions, aiming to create effective inclusive work environments that recognize and value the diverse embodiments of employees. The study also prompts reflection on the impacts of neoliberal ideology in the public sector and higher education, pointing towards potential directions for future research. The need to expand this investigation to other universities to identify and analyze institutional practices that can favor the inclusion of employees with disabilities is emphasized
