    Effect of Environment Size on Spatial Perception in Virtual Reality

    A trend of distance underestimations in Virtual Reality (VR) is well documented, but the reason still remains unclear. Therefore, this paper investigates the effect of differently sized Virtual Environments (VEs) on egocentric distance perception in VR as a potential influence. Verbal assessment, blind walking, and our own proposed method: walk and assess, were compared in an experiment, and blind walking was found to be the most accurate. A virtual replica of a real-life location was created as a transitional environment, while small (15m2), medium (35m2) and large (95m2) rooms were created to investigate the effect of VE size on spatial perception in VR. To establish the differences in estimations between the real world and VR when using blind walking, a study was conducted with the virtual replica and its real life counterpart at distances between 1 and 10 meters. Following this, the three distinct room sizes were used in an experiment to investigate the effect of the size of rooms on spatial perception in VR. The findings showed consistent underestimates of distances, and a trend for underestimation to grow as the distance grows was observed. Similarly, underestimates grew with the size of the environment

    Den danske checkliste over bier har, ud over løbende at blive opdateret med nye arter for landet (bl.a. Madsen et al. 2021a, Madsen et al. 2021b), ikke overordnet været justeret siden udgivelsen af de fem checklisteartikler over den danske bi-fauna (Madsen &amp; Calabuig 2008, Calabuig &amp; Madsen 2009, Madsen &amp; Calabuig 2010, 2011, 2012). Siden har nyere studier over mere komplekse ”artsgrupper” (grupper af arter eller arter vs. underarter) og museumsmateriale ført til justeringer af artsstatus ved nogle taxa og/eller korrektioner af arternes videnskabelige navne. Disse opdateringer og justeringer søges her udredt i forlængelse af den nyligt publicerede checkliste over bier og svirrefluer i EU (Reverté et al., 2023) og checkliste over bier kendt fra Tyskland (Scheuchl et al., 2023), GBIF og ITIS, Alexander et al. (2023), samt implementerede opdateringer af bl.a. den svenske checkliste over bier (Artdatabanken, 2023).Kort sammenfattet, udgår en art fra den danske liste (Lasioglossum sexnotatulum). Slægtsnavnet for tornbien justeres fra slægten Hoplosmia til en underslægt under Osmia og endelig ændres artsnavnet på to jordbier (Andrena) og tre keglebier (Coelioxys). Mere detaljeret baggrund for justeringerne fremgår ved de enkelte arter nedenfor

    A Comparative Study of the Robustness of Two Pose Estimation Techniques

    The paper presents an analysis of the stability of pose estimation. The stability is defined as sensitivity of the pose parameters towards noise in image features used for estimating pose. The specific emphasis of the analysis is on determining how the stability varies with viewpoint relative to an object, and to understand the relationships between object geometry, viewpoint and pose stability. Two pose estimation techniques are investigated. One uses a numerical scheme for finding pose parameters, the other is based on closed form solutions. Both are &apos;pose from tri-hedral vertices&apos; techniques, which provide the rotation part of object pose based on orientations of three edge segments. The analysis is based on generalized sensitivity analysis propagating the uncertainty in edge segment orientations to the resulting effect on the pose parameters. It is shown that there is a pre-computable, generic relationship between viewpoint and pose stability, and that there is a drastic difference..
