No full textThe EXTREMA THruster-In-the-Loop Experiment (ETHILE) is a facility designed for testing the effectiveness and robustness of spacecraft guidance algorithms through hardware actuation. Initially designed to simulate in an accelerated framework the actuation of interplanetary transfers with low-thrust, the system is highly configurable as it can simulate different thruster behaviours with a thruster balance equipped with a compressed air nozzle. An overview of the system and its performance is given, highlighting through a practical example its possible use for research and educational purposes
Fuel-optimal acquisition and control of a cartwheel formation in Earth displaced heliocentric orbit
No full textAn optimization approach for cartwheel formation acquisition and maintenance in an Earth Displaced heliocentric orbit is presented. This work considers non-gravitational perturbations such as solar radiation pressure, thus extending the studies previously performed for the mission LISA. The problem is tackled as a Nonlinear Programming problem using a multiple shooting method. The optimization process is performed in two steps: first, the orbital elements of each satellite in heliocentric orbit are optimized to guarantee the stability during the science phase hence easing maintenance of the cartwheel formation in presence of orbital perturbations. Then, the obtained initial states are propagated to obtain a set of target orbital states which become the final target of a second optimization covering the transfer phase from Earth. For the science phase optimization presents two alternative cost functions are introduced, one based on the arm-length evolution and one on the arm-length-rate evolution. The performance of each cost function is analysed for different initial displacement angles: for target arm-lengths below 2.5 million kilometers the arm-length cost function provides the best results while no significant difference between the two optimized solutions is observed above this value. The transfer phase optimization presents two different approaches, one considering an injection on a trajectory more favourable for one of the three spacecraft and one considering an injection on an intermediate trajectory which minimizes the overall acquisition cost of all spacecraft. The proposed optimization approach performance are studied on a set of test cases covering both transfer and science phase, showing that stable configuration conditions can be found even in presence of orbital perturbations and that the multiple injection transfer is capable of providing a more homogeneous fuel consumption among the three spacecraft

No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2013.Com a intenção de delinear o modo pelo qual o escritor italiano Alessandro Baricco se inseriu no sistema literário brasileiro e os caminhos percorridos pelos seus livros traduzidos, esta dissertação dá voz às experiências tradutórias de seus tradutores. A inserção de Bariccono Brasil tem seu início em 1997, através de uma proposição da Profa. Dra. Roberta Barni à editora Iluminuras da tradução de Oceano Mare. A partir daí, outras sete obras foram publicadas no Brasil, sendo três delas traduzidas por Roberta Barni e as outras quatro por quatro tradutores diferentes. De um lado, considera-se o tradutor como figura principal namediação entre culturas, e, de outro, se analisa a realidade desta figuradentro do sistema literário, sua invisibilidade, seus limites e o exercíciode sua profissão. A pesquisa conta, ainda, com críticas e resenhas referentes ao autor italiano publicadas em jornais consagrados no Brasil, considerando estas como parte constituinte da imagem de Baricco refletida em território nacional. Abstract : Intending to delineate the way the Italian writer Alessandro Baricco has been inserted in the Brazilian literary system and the paths his translated books have followed, this thesis gives voice to the translating experiences of his translators. Baricco's insertion in Brazil began in 1997, through a personal project of Dr. Roberta Barni, with her translation of Oceano Mare. Since then, seven other of his works have been published in Brazil, three of which were translated by Roberta Barni and the other four by four different translators. On the one hand,the translator is considered as the main figure in mediation betweencultures and, on the other, this figure's reality is analyzed within theliterary system: its invisibility, its limits and its professional practice. Criticisms and reviews of this Italian author published in well established Brazilian newspapers are also considered, with the understanding that they are part of Baricco's image reflected here
Onboard guidance and control algorithms for increased autonomous aerobraking capabilities at Mars
No full textAerobraking represents a valuable option for interplanetary missions thanks to its capability of reducing the orbital semi-major axis through multiple atmospheric passages, thus with limited fuel consumption. However, due to structural and thermal loads the spacecraft undergoes, mission risks and ground operations costs increase. This study aims to tackle this aerobraking drawback by enhancing its autonomy. The main activities required for aerobraking execution, including atmospheric prediction, orbital state estimation, and orbit control, are tailored for onboard execution. Regarding orbit control, two different methodologies, differentiated by working principle and prediction horizon breadth, are investigated. The first plans orbit control manoeuvres based on the prediction of the atmospheric conditions for a single upcoming pericentre, while the second schedules and optimizes the manoeuvres considering the recent atmospheric conditions experienced by the spacecraft and the altitude trend of multiple upcoming pericentres. The whole operational concept is tested within a simulated environment, with the primary objective of accurately reproducing the intense atmospheric variations of the Martian atmosphere, which represents the most challenging aspect during aerobraking execution. The numerical testing, involving the simulation of different aerobraking regimes under varied conditions, shows that the natural dynamics of the orbital motion can be exploited to minimize both fuel consumption for orbit control manoeuvres and spacecraft load variations, thus enabling more efficient aerobraking and more stable flight conditions, even with the limited predictive capabilities that characterize onboard resources. Both control logics permit the aerobraking execution without exceeding the maximum allowed thermal limits, hence showing their effectiveness. Furthermore, a Monte Carlo analysis conducted on a complete aerobraking simulation reveals a 25.5% reduction in propellant consumption and a 9.4% reduction in heat rate variability when the orbit control decision process uses information relative to multiple future pericentres

No full textSedici specialisti italiani e stranieri e sei esperti di diagnostica hanno studiato e analizzato le pitture murali del Guercino nel casino dell'Aurora Ludovisi, che desume il proprio appellativo proprio dall'affresco del piano inferiore eseguito dal maestro centese. Il team, coordinato da Daniele Benati, da Barbara Ghelfi e da Raffaella Morselli, ricostruisce in questo volume i rapporti tra il pittore, e i suoi collaboratori, con la famiglia Ludovisi negli anni del papato di Alessandro, prima come arcivescovo della diocesi di Bologna dal 1612 al 1621, e poi come papa Gregorio XV tra il 1621 e il 1623. Lo studio mette a fuoco le relazioni che l'artista ebbe con i suoi committenti bolognesi, l'impatto che gli procurò l'incontro con una squadra affiatata che lavorava già da tempo a Roma per questi committenti e le suggestioni esercitate da una collezione impressionante per numero e qualità delle opere. Fin da subito le decorazioni ebbero una loro fortuna critica e storiografica nella letteratura artistica e nelle stampe che accrebbe la loro fama e quella del Guercino a Roma. L'accurata analisi delle fonti archivistiche e, soprattutto, le indagini diagnostiche realizzate per la prima volta sull'apparato decorativo, mappato in alta definizione, porta a nuove e importanti rivelazioni sulla tecnica e la modalità di lavoro del Guercino e della sua équipe. Ogni decorazione è esaminata e indagata nella propria interezza, intersecando la tecnica pittorica con lo sviluppo stilistico
Eumorphic Plastic Surgery: Expectation Versus Satisfaction in Body Dysmorphic Disorder
No full textBackground: Eumorphic Plastic Surgery aims at improving the severe psychosocial pain caused by a deformity. Dysmorphopathology is an increasingly relevant problem facing the plastic surgeon. Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the perioperative questionnaires created by the senior author and to present a cohort of plastic surgery patients suffering from dysmorphopathies. These patients were prospectively followed and evaluated with the proposed questionnaires through their surgical pathway to explore the degree of satisfaction or disappointment compared to expectations. Methods: All candidates for plastic surgery procedures between April 2011 and June 2013 were included in the study. Preoperatively, all patients completed the Patient Expectation Questionnaire (E-pgm). Twelve months postoperatively, they completed the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (S-pgm). The E-pgm and S-pgm were compared to evaluate the consistency between the patient’s preoperative expectations and postoperative evaluations. Results: A total of 158 patients were included in the study. Out of them, 79 % experienced an improvement or no variation between preoperative expectations and postoperative satisfaction. With regard to the motivation for undergoing surgery, 91 % showed that the surgical procedure met the motivation. An overall positive perioperative change in life was experienced by 93 % of patients. Conclusions: The E-pgm questionnaire proved to be a valid and reliable tool for the selection of suitable candidates for surgery and for identification of dysmorphophobic patients. Enhancing the doctor–patient relationship and communication can reduce ambiguity and avoid troublesome misunderstandings, litigation and other legal implications.
