No full textL’utilizzo di modelli come sistema di rappresentazione dell’architettura ha da sempre costituito un ruolo significativo nella costruzione del progetto.
Nel tempo la maquette è stata sostituita, ma non sempre, da modelli virtuali tridimensionali sempre più sofisticati grazie alla costante evoluzione della tecnologia informatica.
Il loro uso è necessario non solo per la definizione di un progetto, ma per la conoscenza di architetture rimaste sulla carta o di edifici demoliti o distrutti poiché permettono di studiarli, conoscerli ed apprezzarli in maniera più approfondita. Questo lavoro si pone come obiettivo la realizzazione di un modello tridimensionale per consentire una migliore comprensione di Villa Lanza di Deliella, una delle opere più simboliche del Liberty palermitano, un’elegante palazzina progettata da Ernesto Basile e costruita tra il 1905 e il 1909.We are in the era of handheld devices and tablet computers, of LEDs and multi-touch systems, the triumph of information technology. The challenge is to make the virtual interactive to achieve total immersion in augmented real scenes. Stereoscopic displays now allow real-time explorations of architectural scenes, useful for showing additional elements of real scenes, allowing the enhancement and use of the represented assets. In an attempt to propose an applicative research of these technologies, it has been tried to experiment it on a narrow field of investigation.The House was a symbolic work of Liberty in Palermo, designed by the famous architect Ernesto Basile and located in Piazza Croci until the end of the 1950s. It was one of the most suggestive corners of via Libertà; it was destroyed during the 1960s, due to the provision of a master plan that would have allowed, the intensive use of the area. The reconstruction of a three-dimensional virtual model and the use of augmented reality will allow tourists or anyone who wants to get to know an architecture that no longer exists and a glimpse of the city of the past

Laparoscopic right colectomy: Road to safety surgery
No full textLaparoscopic right hemicolectomy indicates a surgical technique for the removal of right-sided colon cancer; it nowadays represents an effective treatment for this disease, but it remains a demanding procedure, burdened by the risk of serious complications, especially in laparoscopic surgery. Indeed, a standard technique for the execution of this intervention does not exist. The purpose of this study is to suggest a standardization of the procedure advising some tips and tricks which could benefit its learning and its performance, helping operators to minimize the risk of major complications. After creation of pneumoperitoneum and port placement, the procedure is structured in consecutive steps: surgical field exposure, vascular dissection, coloparietal detachment, ileal and colic sectioning, anastomosis. During the intervention, the surgical plans and all the structures involved are identified and safeguarded. The entire demolition phase occurs in an anti-clockwise direction. An intracorporeal anastomosis is performed and enterotomies are closed using a two-layer, running barbed suture. During all phases, the assistant grabs and moves bowels in order to improve the field exposure and facilitate the operator's maneuvers
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
