Flare-up Incidence and Related Factors in Nigerian Adults
ABSTRACT
Aim
To determine the incidence of flare-up and the effect of age, gender, visit type, treatment duration, preoperative pain and intraoperative pain on flare-up in Nigerian adults.
Materials and methods
A total of 175 participants, aged 18 to 60 years with a necrotic central incisor, with or without preoperative pain, participated. They received postoperative paracetamol tablets and were asked to report back if unbearable pain/swelling developed.
Results
A 10% flare-up rate was recorded, while none of the studied factors had a significant relationship with flare-up.
Conclusion
The relationships between flare-up and studied related factors were not proven.
Clinical significance
Age, gender, visit type, treatment duration, preoperative pain and intraoperative pain have no effect on flare-up incidence.

Stability Analysis and Control Design of TSK Systems with Applications in Power Systems
In this dissertation, we propose a new approach for the stability analysis of discrete-time and continuous-time, type-1 and type-2 Takagi-Sugano-Kang (TSK) fuzzy systems. A major advantage of the new exponential stability conditions is that they do not require the existence of a common Lyapunov function and are therefore applicable to systems with unstable consequents. Our results compare favorably with results available in the literature and provide stability tests where other approaches fail.New control system design methodologies are proposed based on the proposed stability results. The new methodologies do not require a common Lyapunov function and are therefore applicable to systems with non-stabilizable consequents. Our controllers include fuzzy type-1 proportional and PI controllers as well as constant state feedback controllers. The controllers result in exponentially stable systems and the designer can specify the rate of exponential convergence. The controller designs can be tested using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The design methodology is demonstrated using examples where methods based on a common Lyapunov function fail and the new methodologies provide better performance. This dissertation also introduces four sufficient instability tests for type-1 and type-2 continuous-time TSK fuzzy systems. The first test is developed using a common Lyapunov function. The second test is derived using the variable gradient method. The third test is based on the comparison principle with a non-differentiable Lyapunov function candidate and the upper right hand derivative. Finally, the fourth test is obtained using Chetaev's theorem. We provide numerical examples to demonstrate and compare our instability tests. In addition to the theoretical results, this dissertation uses the proposed stability and instability conditions to investigate the stability of energy markets and their implications for the deregulated market environment. We formulate a TSK model for energy markets to account for their uncertainty and nonlinearity and obtain more realistic stability results. Simulation results demonstrate the application of the stability and instability tests to electric power markets under different market conditions. The tests also demonstrate the importance of including nonlinearities and uncertainty in the energy market when investigating its stability. This dissertation also presents a TSK model for the generator voltage control system including its saturation nonlinearities. A TSK proportional controller using our control design is designed for the generator voltage control system. The TSK modeling and TSK control strategy are shown to provide a good dynamic response for the system, including saturation nonlinearities
Data on greenhouse gases emission in condensate separation unit of a petrochemical company in Iran
AbstractSince global warming due to greenhouse gas emissions is no respecter of geographical boundaries of countries, concerted mitigation activities such as Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), are suitable. In this mechanism, some developed countries can gain certified emission reduction credits from emission reduction actions undertaken in developing countries. Thus, the data of greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries would be informative for implementing of CDM. Herein, the data of greenhouse gas emissions of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex, one of the biggest petrochemical companies in the Middle East region is presented. The data was acquired using emission factor method and self-presented raw information of the Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex. Overall, the data will be interesting for environmentalists, non-governmental organization (NGO), and developed countries to perform CDM

The buyer's remedies for seller's non-conforming delivery : a comparative study under English law, the 1980 UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and Shi'ah law.
The purpose of the thesis is to examine Shiah law, as an undeveloped systen-4 in order to identify if it could be applied to modem sale transactions. The focus is on remedies in which Shiah jurists have done a great deal of work. The subject is first examined under English law and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (as two developed systems) to identify the issues which have to be dealt with and then under Shiah law in depth. An extensive examination shows that current Shiah law suffers from substantive gaps and uncertainty. It is suggested that the current situation is due to lack of applying an efficient methodology. Instead of dealing with the legal rules in respect of concrete issues, Shiah jurists tend to deal with traditional as well as hypothetical cases to derive further detailed rules. To present a sensible picture of this system, it is suggested that the law should be analysed in the light of studying developed systems. Relying on this method, attempts are made to systematise the relevant rules and answer the various questions these two modem systems deal with. Shiah law is then compared with English law and the Convention to highlight the existing gaps in Shiah law and to assess how it could be applied to modem sales. Comparative assessment of the three systems shows that while in English law primacy is given to damages and specific performance is rarely awarded, the Convention gives significance to both. Similarly, English law seems to permit termination more easily than the Convention. But unlike the Convention, it does not recognise price reduction as a separate remedy. Overall, it is shown that Shiah law is closer to the Convention than to English law. It attaches significance to both damages and specific performance, and entitles the buyer to reduce the contract price, but permits termination more easily than the Convention and less easily than English law. It is concluded that because of substantive gaps and uncertainty in current Shiah law it is not an appropriate system to govern modem sale transactions, but if the suggested methodology is applied it could be developed and fill in the gaps
