Reflecting on the experience of interviewing online: perspective from the Internet and HIV study in London
This paper considers some of the strengths and weaknesses of conducting synchronous online interviews for qualitative research. It is based on a study among gay/bisexual men that used both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the association between seeking sex through the Internet and HIV transmission risk. Between June 2002 and January 2004, 128 gay/bisexual men living in London were interviewed one-to-one by the first author (MD) about their experience of using the Internet to find sexual partners and negotiating condom use for anal sex. Thirty-five men were interviewed online, while 93 were interviewed face-to-face (i.e. offline). This paper draws on MD's experience of conducting these interviews--both online and face-to-face. Synchronous online interviews have the advantage of being cheap, convenient and attractive to people who do not like face-to-face interviews. However, some of the social conventions and technical limitations of computer-mediated-communication can introduce ambiguity into the online dialogue. To minimize this ambiguity, both interviewer and interviewee have to edit their online interaction. One of the distinctive features of the online interview is that it emerges as a form of textual performance. This raises fundamental questions about the suitability of the synchronous online interview for exploring sensitive topics such as risky sexual behaviour
IMPLEMENTASI PROGRAM NASIONAL PEMB ERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT MANDIRI PERDESAAN (PNPM MD) DI DESA MONGGOT KECAMATAN GEYER KABUPATEN GROBOGAN TAHUN 2008
National Program for Community Empowerment Rural Independent
(PNPM-MD) is intended to improve the welfare and employment of poor rural
communities to promote independence in decision making and management
development. The problem with rural communities, highly specific and can not be
in the same averaged for all villages. With the fiscal transfers to the village, it is
expected that each village with its citizens the ability to solve their own problems.
Based on the issues presented in this study, the author wants to put more
emphasis on a process of policy implementation, then this kind of research is to
study the program using a level of descriptive research that led to case studies in
detail and pendiskripsian depth portrait of what the condit ions actually happen
according to what field of study with the sampling technique used was purposive
sampling and snowball sampling. This study uses an interactive data analysis
techniques. Tests conducted by the validity of the data triangulation techniqu e.
From the research, the Monggot Village District Sub Geyer PNPM MD
have conducted well and according to operational technical guidance PNPM
MD. But in practice there are still some obstacles that occur. Include difficulties
in communication between the E xecutive Team Activities (TPK), residents and
the district. This is due to brief the socialization phase, so felt less wear and less
deep. In addition unpreparedness in understanding the system implementer
PNPM -MD administration in the stage of reporting the use of funds slightly
inhibit the implementation of this policy.
Recommendations given to the implementation of the PNPM author MD,
for the better in the future is the improvement in terms of socialization, so that the
delivery of programs to the commu nity can be more detail and depth. Training
better to TPK in PNPM MD administration system, and intensive communication
between actors PNPM MD must be maintained and enhanced
Intersection modifications using mini-/modular-roundabout methods
Final report; "November 2021."; Additional project information provided in email with PDFs: SJN 135995; Author Md Amdad Hossen's name is misspelled on the cover page, technical report documentation page, and title page of the final report as well as on the fact sheet; Includes bibliographical references (pages 22-26 of Final report)Final report (viii, 188 pages) -- [Fact sheet] (2 unnumbered pages)Conversion of traditional intersections (stop controlled and signalized) to modern RABs has been a growing practice in many countries around the world including the U.S. - largely due to the benefits of reduction in crash frequency and severity, capacity improvement, and operational improvement. However, construction of traditional RABs is costly and requires additional right-of-way (ROW) which can deter roundabout installation on local transportation systems that have budgetary and/or available ROW restrictions. The main objective of this project was to develop guidelines for ORIL on the installation and performance of mini-/modular-RABs considering characteristics of Ohio's local transportation system. Based on published guidelines and from existing pilot implementations (both international and within U.S.), current design practices considering traffic condition and roadway conditions were identified. Based on survey findings, there was a reasonably high level of familiarity with mini-RABs among respondents. Most agencies consider reduction of crashes/severity and improved traffic operations in installation of mini-RABs. Major concern with mini-RABs is drivers neglecting the central island and driving straight through thus causing the mini-/modular-RAB to lose its integrity. Agencies typically place mini-/modular-RABs on two-lane highways with low traffic volumes (<15,000 vpd); and/or peak-hour volumes of 1,600 to 1,800 vehicles. Based on driving simulator experiments, there are no differences in critical gap as driver's maneuvered through mini-RAB of different ICDs. Operations-wise, Mini-RABs with larger ICDs performed better than those with smaller ICD
Description of the first continental European species of the huntsman spider Cebrennus (Araneae, Sparassidae), confirming the presence of the genus in the region
Genetic data has been uploaded to GenBank, and accession numbers are provided.Because of its wide variety of climates and habitats, the Iberian Peninsula harbors a rich and diverse arachnological fauna, including numerous endemisms. This is especially true for habitats like arid and semiarid areas. Many of them are threatened despite containing interesting –and sometimes uncharacterised– fauna, such as the huntsman spiders in the genus Cebrennus. Previously known to occur from North Africa to the Middle East, new sightings of these spiders in Europe have drawn attention. Here, we use morphological and molecular data to describe a new species of Cebrennus from specimens collected in eastern Spain. Additionally, we use genetic data to place the new species, Cebrennus herculis sp. n., in a phylogenetic context and speculate on the biogeographic processes that lead to its presence in Europe. Genetic distances among individuals of C. herculis sp. n. were low for the three molecular markers analysed (COI, 18S and 28S). Our phylogenetic tree recovered the monophyly of the Iberian Cebrennus, and placed them as sister to the only African representative with genetic data available, Cebrennus rungsi. Furthermore, divergence time analysis revealed a Palaeogene-Neogene split between the Iberian lineage and C. rungsi, compatible with an allopatric speciation following one of the ancient connections between Europe and Africa landmasses. These findings show that habitats such as arid and semiarid areas still hide new and interesting diversity, underscoring the importance of preserving them. This study was partially funded by Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación of Spain and Next Generation EU (MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033; grants ‘Ayudas para Incentivar la Consolidación Investigadora’ CNS2022-135805 and PID2022-137753NA-I00), and Comissió Interdepartamental de Recerca i Innovació Tecnològica (2021SGR00279 and 2021SGR00689).
