the emerging Information Society. Furthermore, the various constraints to book
development were identified while the paper advised on how the Book Industry can be
further promoted in Nigeria. However, the paper concluded and made recommendations
on how the Book sector can help in enhancing scholarship in the country
Square-wave jerks and square-wave oscillations: treatment with valproic acid
No full textExperimental studies in monkeys have demonstrated that injection of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonists into the superior colliculus restricts saccadic eye movements, while injection of GABA antagonists leads to square-wave jerks (SWJ). To investigate the role of GABA in saccadic interruptions of fixation, we treated five patients who had SWJ and square- wave oscillations (SWO) with valproic acid (VPA) (2000 mg/d), which has been shown to increase brain GABA levels. VPA effectively reduced the SWJ/SWO in three patients, abolished them in one patient, but was ineffective in the fifth, who had a localized lesion in the cerebellar vermis. VPA effects may have been due to the restoration of the GABAergic tonic inhibitory action from the substantia nigra pars reticulata to the superior colliculus

An Econometric model for the evolution of the Romanian Interbank Bid Rate (ROBID) in the context of the international financial crisis
No full textThe paper presents the econometric modeling of overnight inter-banking interest rates (ROBID) in our country, the analyzed period is between 1999-2010. The international financial crises had a great impact on the level of inter-banking interest rates after 2007 and it reflects the new level of risk for the Romanian system banking. The econometric model used in modeling the interest rates is an autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model, the ARMA model is typically applied to time series data; the paper propose several ARMA models, applies econometric tests and based on them the analyzed series (the inter-banking interest rates) forecast will be made.ROBID, ARIMA model, financial crisis, forecast.

No full textIn the present study, electrophysiological and behavioural tests were performed on Siagona europaea Dejean 1826 adults to investigate the importance of chemical cues in ant location. Olfactory responses of labial palp to terpenoids (citral, limonene and geraniol), carboxylic acids (acetic and formic acids), aliphatic ketones (heptanone) and aldehydes (hexanal) were tested by means of an electropalpogram (EPG) bioassay. Our electrophysiological results showed that only acetic and formic acids evoked EPG responses. Y-shape olfactometer bioassays showed that adults were attracted by acetic and formic acids. The role of these chemicals on prey detection is discussed
