RoMEO Studies 4: An analysis of Journal publishers' Copyright Agreements
This article is the fourth in a series of six emanating from the UK JISC-funded RoMEO Project (Rights Metadata for Open archiving). It describes an analysis of 80 scholarly journal publishers’ copyright agreements with a particular view to their effect on author self-archiving. 90% of agreements asked for copyright transfer and 69% asked for it prior to refereeing the paper. 75% asked authors to warrant that their work had not been previously published although only two explicitly stated that they viewed self-archiving as prior publication. 28.5% of agreements provided authors with no usage rights over their own paper. Although 42.5% allowed self-archiving in some format, there was no consensus on the conditions under which self-archiving could take place. The article concludes that author-publisher copyright agreements should be reconsidered by a working party representing the needs of both partie
A Scalable Architecture for Harvest-Based Digital Libraries - The ODU/Southampton Experiments
This paper discusses the requirements of current and emerging applications based on the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) and emphasizes the need for a common infrastructure to support them. Inspired by HTTP proxy, cache, gateway and web service concepts, a design for a scalable and reliable infrastructure that aims at satisfying these requirements is presented. Moreover it is shown how various applications can exploit the services included in the proposed infrastructure. The paper concludes by discussing the current status of several prototype implementations
Fallout and Environmental Radionuclides for Estimation of Recent Environmental Changes in Maly Azau Glacier Area (Central Caucasus)

change. Fallout radionuclides (FRN’s) and environmental radionuclides (ERN’s) both are useful instruments in
studies of soils and sediments on glacial landforms that can help to define the direction of the sedimentation
process and relative age of moraines as well as the lithological difference between different landforms.
The study area is situated on the South-Western slope of the Elbrus mountain - between the tongues of Maly Azau
and Bolshoy Azau glaciers near Maly Azau proglacial lake.Peer reviewe

Complete mitochondrial genome of a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) from Maly Lyakhovsky Island (New Siberian Islands, Russia) and its phylogenetic assessment
We present a complete sequence and an annotation of the mitochondrial genome of the woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) found in 2012 on Maly Lyakhovsky Island (North-Eastern Siberia, Russia). The genome was 16,851 bp long and contained 13 protein-coding, 22 tRNA, and 2 rRNA genes. It was AT reach (61.3%) with A = 32.9%, T = 28.4%, C = 25.3%, and G = 13.4%. © 2018 The Author(s). Vasopressin in Patients with Septic Shock and Dynamic Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction
Purpose Left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) is a relatively uncommon but severe condition that may lead to hemodynamic impairment. It can be elicited by morphological (left ventricular hypertrophy, sigmoid septum, prominent papillary muscle, prolonged anterior mitral valve leaflet) and functional (hypovolemia, low afterload, hypercontractility, catecholamines) factors. We sought to determine the incidence of the most severe form of LVOTO in septic shock patients and describe the therapeutic effects of vasopressin. Methods Over a period of 29 months, 527 patients in septic shock were screened for LVOTO. All were mechanically ventilated and treated according to sepsis bundles, including pre-load optimization and norepinephrine infusion. Vasopressin was added in addition to norepinephrine to reduce the adrenergic burden and decrease LVOTO. Results Ten patients were diagnosed with the most severe form of LVOTO, including systolic anterior mitral valve motion (SAM) and severe mitral regurgitation (MR) with pulmonary oedema. The median norepinephrine dosage to obtain a mean arterial pressure of >= 70 mmHg was 0.58 mcg/Kg/min (IQR 0.40-0.78). All patients had a hyper-contractile left ventricle, septal hypertrophy, significant LVOTO (peak gradient 78 [56-123] mmHg) associated with SAM and severe MR with pulmonary oedema. Vasopressin (median 4 IU/h) allowed a significant reduction of norepinephrine (0.18 [0.14-0.30] mcg/kg/min; p = 0.01), LVOT gradient (35 [24-60] mmHg; p = 0.01) and MR with a significant paO(2)/FiO(2) increase (174 [125-213] mmHg; p = 0.01). Conclusion Vasopressin allowed a reduction of norepinephrine with subsequent LVOTO reduction and hemodynamic improvement of the most severe form of LVOTO, which represented 1.9% of all septic shock patients
The Peculiarities of the Dramatization of “The Queen of Spades” by A.S. Pushkin in a Stage Production of Maly Theatre in 2014.
Viktorija Zorina A.Puškina «Pīķa dāmas» inscenējuma iezīmes Mazā teātra 2014. gada iestudējumā: bakalaura darbs. – Rīga, 2018. – 50. lpp Bakalaura darbs ir veltīts prozas teksta inscenējuma dramaturģijā īpatnību atklāšanai, ņemot par piemēru A. Puškina «pīķa dāmas» 2014. gada Mazā teātra iestudējumu (režisors A. Žitinkins) Balstoties uz A.Puškina daiļdarbu pētnieku rakstītajiem pētījumiem literatūrzinātnē, darba autors veic tēlu sastatāmo analīzi starp A.Puškina stāstu un tā inscenējumu, kā arī atklāj neverbālo līdzekļu nozīmi izrādes jēgas formējumā. Darba autors nonāk pie secinājuma, ka režisora modifikācijas sekmē pilnāku atainojumu katra no inscenējuma tēliem. Pētījums var ieinteresēt filologus, kuri nodarbojās ar prozas teksta inscenējuma un A.Puškina prozas problēmām.The Peculiarities of the Dramatization of “The Queen of Spades” by A.S. Pushkin in a Stage Production of Maly Theatre in 2014: BA paper. – Riga, 2018 - 50 pages The BA paper is devoted to the revealing of peculiarities of the dramatization of the prosaic text into dramatic on the example of “The Queen of Spades” by A.S. Pushkin in a stage production of Maly Theatre in 2014 (stage director A. Zhitinkin). Relying on the literary works of the scholars researching works of Pushkin, the author of the paper conducts a comparative analysis of the characters of Pushkin’s novel and its dramatization, as well as detects the importance of non-verbal means of the performance in the formation of its meaning. The author of the paper concludes that directing modifications promote the more complete disclosure of every character of the stage production. The research might be interesing for philologists and humanists who deal with the problems of the dramatization of Puskin’s prosaic texts and prose
Labour markets in Poland and Hungary five years from the start of transition: Evidence from monthly data
This paper presents error correction estimates of a simple interdependent model of the labour market using monthly data over 1990-1994 for the industrial sector in Poland and Hungary. The aim is to investigate three issues in the performance of labour markets during transition. First, is there a stable labour market equilibrium or do high unemployment rates across the region indicate hysteresis? Second, has the intensity of employment adjustment increased with progress in institutional reforms that strengthened corporate governance at the enterprise level? Third, what governs the evolution of real wages and to what extent is there evidence for strong insider power in the labour market? The results reveal striking differences between Poland and Hungary. The former exhibits hysteresis and evidence for considerable insider power while the latter has experienced adjustment towards a stable labour market equilibrium. The intensity of adjustment, however, is high in both countries over the sample period and fails to respond to the initiation of institutional reforms.Hysteresis,Adjustment Intensity,Insider Power
