Forme e funzioni dell'autodiegesi nella 'Relatio' di Odorico da Pordenone

    No full text
The present paper aims at examining the effects of autodiegetic perspective in Odoric of Podenone's Relatio. Odoric's narrative, as well as other medieval travel accounts, such as Marco Polo's Devisement dou Monde, results from collaboration between a traveller, the Friar Minor Odoric, and a scribe, Brother William of Solagna. Nevertheless, the narration is entirely conducted in the first person. First af all, the autodiegetic narration serves a 'structural' and 'contextualizing' function, since it defines the geographical and chronological coordinates of the traveller's experience. Elsewhere the author represents himself as taking part in the action, in order to warrant the truthfulness of his stories. In some cases, the first-person narration enables the author to offer an interpretation of reality to the reader. Finally, in the last chapters of Odoric's account, the "autodiegesis" acquires exemplary value: the first-person narrator presents his own experience as an edifying example for other Christians

Le Génie de la Révolution. La concezione della Rivoluzione nel Saggio di Chateaubriand

The article aims to understand the notion underlying the term “revolution” in René de Chateaubriand’s Essay on Revolutions, making particular reference not only to the substantial notes of the 1826 re-edition, provided by the author himself, but also to the conceptual constellation surrounding the nascent concept of revolution, in particular “history” and “revolutionary rupture”.L’articolo si propone di comprendere la nozione sottesa al termine "rivoluzione" all’interno del Saggio sulle Rivoluzioni di René de Chateaubriand, facendo particolare riferimento non solo alle corpose note apportate nella riedizione del 1826 dallo stesso autore, ma anche alla costellazione concettuale che circonda il nascente concetto di rivoluzione, in particolare "storia" e "rottura rivoluzionaria"

Fast Construction of Fejér and Clenshaw-Curtis rules for general weight functions

    No full text
The main purpose of this paper is to compute the weights of Clenshaw-Curtis and Fejér type quadrature rules via DCT and DST, for general weight functions w. The approach is different from that used by Waldvogel in [25], where the author considered the computation of these sets only for the Legendre weight w ≡ 1 using DFT arguments

Rapid prototyping in early stages of architectural design

Thesis (M.S.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Architecture, 1997.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 59).This thesis shows how architects can use Rapid Prototyping and what the advantages and disadvantages are in different manipulations of the tool. Chapter two attempts to chart a road map of the rapid prototyping media. The data were drawn from a number of first hand experiments conducted by the author as well as by colleagues in MIT School of Architecture and Harvard Graduate School of Design, and in actual practice. The whole research lies on the boundary between virtual and real, on physical prototyping from a digital file. Digital prototyping and manual prototyping are mentioned only as references. The research offers examples of manipulations of the media and conclude that rapid prototyping in preliminary stages of design is most appropriate when used in what is defined as Direct CAD (Computer Aided Design) with Direct CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing). Furthermore, it identifies Semi -Direct CAD with Direct CAM as the manipulation most commonly used by architects. This manipulation is useful for presentation models but not very useful in early stages where ideas are less definite. This is the reason why rapid prototyping is generally considered inappropriate for early stages of architectural design. Instead of analyzing Rapid Prototyping technology this work concentrates on the process that involves Rapid Prototyping in new ways in design . It aims to stimulate the designer's imagination when thinking about three -dimensional design, design in motion and design at the interface between people and architecture, for example, chairs and kitchens. In this context Rapid Prototyping becomes merely a vehicle by which the architect explores the design process. Rapid Prototyping is proposed as a media to escape the limitation imposed by flat screen representation in what is defined as true three dimensional digital design. This technology was invented in engineering to increase design and manufacturing process performances.by Alvise Simondetti.M.S

Le "suntuosissime et accommodate fabriche" di Alvise Cornaro. Per uno studio della decorazione dell'Odeo Cornaro a Padova

This paper presents the results of a research dedicated to the decoration of the rooms of the Odeo Cornaro, of which the author identifies several models, providing a chronological sequence of its execution. The artists involved in this campaign took inspiration from the decoration of Palazzo Te in Mantova, and from artists such as Amico Aspertini, Parmigianino, and Giovanni Antonio Pordenone. The stucco decoration thus reveals a more up-to-date interpretation of motives in comparison to painting and offers important clarifications on the variety and richness of information circulating in Padua, particularly with regard to the unprecedented experimentalism of Alvise Cornaro’s patronage. In this sense, the most significant personality is the stucco decorator Tiziano Aspetti, known as Minio (Padua, 1511 / 1512-1552), who widely uses the motives learned with Silvio Cosini and Jacopo Sansovino, while at the same time experimenting with the inventions of Giorgio Vasari at the time of the apparato for La Talanta, staged in Venice in 1542

Electrospun Collagen-Coated Nanofiber Membranes Functionalized with Silver Nanoparticles for Advanced Wound Healing Applications

Complex wounds pose a significant healthcare challenge due to their susceptibility to infections and delayed healing. This study focuses on developing electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber membranes coated with Type I collagen derived from bovine skin and functionalized with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to address these issues. The collagen coating enhances biocompatibility, while AgNPs synthesized through chemical reduction with sodium citrate provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties. The physical properties of the membranes were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Results showed the formation of nanofibers without defects and the uniform distribution of AgNPs. A swelling test and contact angle measurements confirmed that the membranes provided an optimal environment for wound healing. In vitro biological assays with murine 3T3 fibroblasts revealed statistically significant (p ≤ 0.05) differences in cell viability among the membranes at 24 h (p = 0.0002) and 72 h (p = 0.022), demonstrating the biocompatibility of collagen-coated membranes and the minimal cytotoxicity of AgNPs. Antibacterial efficacy was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), with the significant inhibition of biofilm formation observed for VRE (p = 0.006). Overall, this novel combination of collagen-coated electrospun PCL nanofibers with AgNPs offers a promising strategy for advanced wound dressings, providing antimicrobial benefits. Future in vivo studies are warranted to further validate its clinical and regenerative potential
