Franco Margola e la seduzione dell'arché
Get PDFCon il presente percorso critico, mi sono proposto di analizzare
un particolare aspetto dello stile compositivo di Franco Margola
(1908 – 1992). La componente epica del suo personalissimo cosmo
mitologico diviene oggetto di un’operazione trasformazionale in cui
la realtà è parte di un intenso gioco di rifrazioni e allusioni. Il
Concerto per la candida pace per grande orchestra e voce recitante
(1959), su testo di Tibullo, collocato cronologicamente nella
seconda fase margoliana, si pone quale sintesi di un intenso
apparato di immagini letterarie. La riscrittura dell’elegia I, X di
Tibullo, attraverso cui Margola risemantizza il mito della guerra,
causa un cortocircuito di archetipi narrativi che, dando luogo a un
rovesciamento delle linee di svolgimento dell’elegia, genera un
percorso rituale in cui si alternano musica e recitazione.
Il prologo iliadico del Concerto, primo blocco di costruzione
narrativa, si configura come un poderoso affresco che descrive,
secondo un’idea programmatica, l’urto sanguinoso e decisivo degli
eserciti. La scrittura orchestrale, rievocando il celebre tópos
letterario della teichoskopía omerica indica, nella sua piena
visibilità, la permanenza dell’eroe all’interno della fabula. Sarà il
silenzio al termine del prologo, tempo zero del dramma, a
introdurre, senza vincolo metrico, la vocalità drammatica di una
voce recitante che determinerà il brusco contatto dell’ulisside
margoliano con la realtà. La dramatis persona è qui frutto di una
complessa intersezione di piani narrativi in cui l’io margoliano,
sovrapponendosi all’io elegiaco, getta uno sguardo extradiegetico su
una battaglia da cui emerge la voce di un kléos dimidiato, che
informa epicamente l’ipertesto. Nel quarto blocco di costruzione
narrativa, in contrappunto al ritmo ditirambico dell’épos eroico del
prologo, l’ulisside compie il suo nóstos in un mondo demitizzato.
Sezione liminale in cui il genio della lingua poetica, esplorando la
metafora greca della soglia, genera un tempo narrativo in cui non è
più possibile vedere la morte eroica quale tratto distintivo dell’eroe.Whit this critical path, I set out to analyse a particular aspect
of Franco Margola’s (1908 – 1992) compositional style. The epic
component of his very personal mythological cosmos becomes a
transformation operation object where the reality is a refractions
and allusions intense play part. The Concerto per la candida pace
per grande orchestra e voce recitante (1959), on Tibullus’ text,
placed chronologically in the second Margola’s period, puts itself
like a literaries images intense array. Tibullus’ elegy I, X, through
which Margola re-thinks the war mith, causes a narratives
archet ypes short circuit that, giving a treatment lines upsetting,
produces a ritual path where music and drama take turns.
The concert iliadic prologue, narrative construction first block,
takes form like a powerfull fresco that describes, according to a
programmatic idea, the armies sanguinary and decisive collision.
The orchestral writing, recalling the omeric teichoskopía famous
literary tópos, indicates, in its complete visibility, the hero stay
inside the fabula. Will be the silence to the prologue end, the drama zero time, to introduce, without metric wine, a reciting voice
dramatic vocalit y that will determine Margola’s ulyssid sharp
contact with the reality. The dramatis persona is here a narratives
planes complex intersection fruit where Margola’s ego, overlapping
the elegiac ego, throws an extradiegetic glance on a battle from
where emerges a divided kléos voice, that informs epically the
h ypertext. In the narrative construction fourth block, in
counterpoint at the prologue heroic épos dythirambic rhythm, the

Multiscale modelling of organic molecules interacting with solids
Get PDFThis Ph.D. thesis concerns the application of computational chemistry methods to molecular systems of interest, in collaboration with experimental research groups. The bulk of the work was focused on self-assembled monolayers (SAM) of thiol molecules on gold surfaces.
SAMs are of central interest in surface science; they are studied for potential applications, among others, in nanolithography, biosensing, and electronics. The nature of the sulfur/gold interface is still debated: although it is commonly held that the –SH moiety dissociates to form a covalent S-Au bond, several studies report SAMs of undissociated thiols.
To get insights on this point, we combined density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to study in detail the thermodynamics of SAM formation on gold surfaces, using 7-mercapto-4-methylcoumarin (MMC) and 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) as model molecules. The chemical potential of a thiol molecule in the SAM was computed by MD thermodynamic integration as a function of the SAM density; the maximum SAM densities for MMC and MPA in dissociated and undissociated form were computed and compared with experimental results

Il libro edito da Birkhäuser e curato dai fondatori di DEMOGO, Simone Gobbo, Alberto Mottola e Davide De Marchi affronta il rapporto tra architettura e contesti complessi attraverso un confronto aperto tra cinque saggi critici di: Pippo Ciorra, Sara Marini, Giovanni Corbellini, Petra Blaisse, Alberto Bertagna e le opere più significative dello studio. Un’impostazione dialettica che esplicita l’impegno teorico dello studio con l’attività progettuale professionale, dimostrando le connessioni significative tra pensiero e esecuzioni, riflettendo sui processi di sviluppo e mutazione delle strategie di trasformazione dei luoghi.
I disegni di DEMOGO e le foto di Iwan Bann definiscono un registro visivo rispetto alla ricerca dello studio e contemporaneamente tracciano i tratti di un’attitudine teorico progettuale incentrata sulla costruzione di dispositivi di adattamento e mutazione dei luoghi. Intenzioni e opere che evidenziano il conflitto tra la dinamica del controllo del progetto di architettura e la sua imperfetta evoluzione all’interno dello spazio del reale.
Il libro costituisce uno strumento di confronto tra teorie e progetti, definendo una traiettoria di ricerca tra architettura e contesti complessi, utilizzando le opere come condizioni specifiche di riflessione sulle potenzialità della teoria come struttura metodologica capace di influenzare e innescare le esecuzioni.

Architecture and Projects in Complex Contexts is a monographic book that chronologically organizes the applied research of DEMOGO architecture studio, attempting to explore the design opportunities developed by the studio in a period between 2009 and 2023.
The book published by Birkhäuser and edited by the founders of DEMOGO, Simone Gobbo, Alberto Mottola and Davide De Marchi addresses the relationship between architecture and complex contexts through an open comparison between five critical essays by: Pippo Ciorra, Sara Marini, Giovanni Corbellini, Petra Blaisse, Alberto Bertagna and the most significant works of the studio. A dialectical approach that makes explicit the theoretical commitment of the studio with professional design activity, demonstrating the significant connections between thought and execution, reflecting on the processes of development and mutation of the strategies of transformation of places.
DEMOGO’s drawings and Iwan Bann’s photos define a visual register with respect to the studio’s research and at the same time trace the traits of a theoretical design attitude focused on the construction of devices for adapting and mutating places. Intentions and works that highlight the conflict between the dynamics of controlling the architectural project and its imperfect evolution within the space of reality.
The book constitutes a tool for comparing theories and projects, defining a research trajectory between architecture and complex contexts, using the works as specific conditions for reflecting on the potential of theory as a methodological structure capable of influencing and triggering executions

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
