The golden sun discs from Roca (Lecce, Italy): archaeological and cultural context
The Bronze Age site of Roca Vecchia, Lecce (Italy), spelled also Rocavecchia or Roca, is a long-lived coastal settlement pro- tected by a large fortification wall, which was repeatedly de- stroyed, rebuilt and restored over the centuries between the Middle Bronze Age and Final Bronze Age. During the 2nd mil- lennium BC this place probably had its own social, cultural and religious identity probably related to the cave-sanctuary of »Grotta Poesia«, to the impressive fortification wall and to the natural harbour of the Bay of Torre dell’Orso. Extensive archaeological investigations of the Final Bronze Age II (11th century BC) settlement enclosed by the fortification wall on the peninsula of Roca revealed a quite regular arrange- ment of buildings and open spaces which were completely destroyed by a great fire. The best preserved of these struc- tures is the so-called »hut-temple« – an outstanding assem- blage of metal artefacts was found in this context. Among the many bronze and gold items included in the »hoard of gold« and in the »hoard of bronze«, or simply recovered on the floor level of the building, there were two pairs of golden sun discs
Treatment of multiple wounds of aplasia cutis congenita on the lower limb: A case report
Introduction: Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare congenital disease, characterised by absence of skin, that can affect different parts of the body. ACC is more frequent on the scalp, but can involve limbs, with partial- or total-thickness loss of skin, with a functional impairment of the joint affected. There is no clear indication for surgical or conservative treatment, therefore, it would be helpful to find scientific support for the optimal treatment strategies. Clinical presentation: We present a case of a newborn female, with six wounds on the inferior limbs, treated with conservative therapy. To prevent infection and promote healing, the defects were kept moist and covered with non-adherent/antimicrobical dressings. Complete wound healing occurred in eight weeks. The duration of follow-up was three years. Results: In this kind of ACC with superficial partial-thickness wounds of the lower limbs, conservative treatment was successful. The same conservative treatment can be proposed for larger or deeper wounds of lower limbs with no involvement of underlying structures, with delayed scar excision after the complete growth of the patient. ACC scar excision could require complex tissue rearrangement, tissue expansion, or skin grafting. Conclusion: In the evaluation for treatment of ACC of inferior limbs, even in cases of total-thickness skin loss, even on joints, the conservative approach could be considered as the first choice
Human blastocyst biopsy and vitrification
Blastocyst biopsy is performed to obtain a reliable genetic diagnosis during IVF cycles with preimplantation genetic testing. Then, the ideal workflow entails a safe and efficient vitrification protocol, due to the turnaround time of the diagnostic techniques and to transfer the selected embryo(s) on a physiological endometrium in a following natural cycle. A biopsy approach encompassing the sequential opening of the zona pellucida and retrieval of 5-10 trophectoderm cells (ideally 7-8) limits both the number of manipulations required and the exposure of the embryo to sub-optimal environmental conditions. After proper training, the technique was reproducible across different operators in terms of timing of biopsy (~8 min, ranging 3-22 min based on the number of embryos to biopsy per dish), conclusive diagnoses obtained (~97.5%) and live birth rates after vitrified-warmed euploid blastocyst transfer (>40%). The survival rate after biopsy, vitrification and warming was as high as 99.8%. The re-expansion rate at 1.5 h from warming was as high as 97%, largely dependent on the timing between biopsy and vitrification (ideally ≤30 min), blastocyst morphological quality and day of biopsy. In general, it is better to vitrify a collapsed blastocyst; therefore, in non-PGT cycles, laser-assisted artificial shrinkage might be performed to induce embryo collapse prior to cryopreservation. The most promising future perspective is the non-invasive analysis of the IVF culture media after blastocyst culture as a putative source of embryonic DNA. However, this potential avant-garde is still under investigation and a reliable protocol yet needs to be defined and validated
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.

Abstract
AIM: The aim of our study is to evaluate the effect of recombinant-human LH supplementation on ovarian response and pregnancy outcome, during ovarian stimulation, in down-regulated women with baseline low serum LH levels undergoing assisted reproductive technology.
STUDY DESIGN: A prospective randomized study performed with 80 women, with serum LH levels 50.5 IU/l on cycle Day 6 of stimulation. Group-A (40): 14-days after down-regulation with leuprorelin, ovarian stimulation was initiated only with r-FSH 225 IU. Group-B (40): at the same time stimulation was initiated with rFSH 225 IU associated with rLH 75 UI on cycle Day 6 of stimulation.
RESULTS: Serum-E2 levels on the hCG-day administration were significantly reduced in the Group-A. FF-VEGF levels were higher in Group-A. We did not find significant differences in the number of retrieved oocytes. The quality of oocytes proved to be higher and more significant from a statistical point of view in Group-B. The number of embryos obtained and transferred, the pregnancy rate lower in Group-A.
CONCLUSIONS: In our study, it was shown that LH supplementation seems to have a beneficial effect on the maturity and fertilizability of oocyte. Lower FF VEGF levels, found in Group B, could be an indication of a lower apoptosis rate in human cumulus cells after administration of LH. We can affirm that LH-supplementation is beneficial in patients who show asignificant serum LH suppression during the receptorial down-regulation
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Reconstructive management of degloving trauma of male external genitalia using dermal regeneration template: A case report
Traumatic injuries of male external genitalia are rare and not usually life threatening; however, they can have psychological repercussions. The reconstructive management of these lesions is challenging and articulated. We report the case of a 38-year-old farmer suffering from a degloving wound on the external genitalia. The first reconstructive step used to treat the wound was the incorporation of a dermal regeneration template (Integra (R)) and accordingly partial-thickness skin grafts and local flaps.
