The evolution of extracellular hemoglobins of annelids, vestimentiferans, and pogonophorans.
The evolution of extracellular hemoglobins of annelids, vestimentiferans, and pogonophorans was investigated by applying cladistic and distance-based approaches to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships of this group of respiratory pigments. We performed this study using the aligned sequences of globin and linker chains that are the constituents of these complex molecules. Three novel globin and two novel linker chains of Sabella spallanzanii described in an accompanying paper (Pallavicini, A., Negrisolo, E., Barbato, R., Dewilde, S., Ghiretti-Magaldi, A., Moens, L., and Lanfranchi, G. (2001) J. Biol. Chem. 276, 26384--26390) were also included. Our results allowed us to test previous hypotheses on the evolutionary pathways of these proteins and to formulate a new most parsimonious model of molecular evolution. According to this novel model, the genes coding for the polypeptides forming these composite molecules were already present in the common ancestor of annelids, vestimentiferans, and pogonophorans
Structural Performance-Based Design Optimisation of a Secondary Mirror for a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plant
Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants use mirrors to reflect and concentrate sunlight onto a receiver, to heat a fluid and store thermal energy, at high temperature and energy density, to produce dispatchable heat and/or electricity. The secondary mirror is a critical component in the optical system of certain Solar Power Tower plants (SPT), as it redirects the concentrated sunlight from the primary mirror onto the receiver, which can be arranged at ground level. In this study, we propose a design optimisation for the secondary mirror of a CSP plant. The design optimisation method consists of two steps. The first step involves the use of the finite element simulation software Abaqus 2022 to analyse the structural performance of the secondary mirror under thermal loads and wind. The second step consists of the use of simulation results to identify the combination of design parameters and best performances, with respect to both design constraints and structural safety. This is carried out by developing an algorithm that selects those configurations which satisfy the constraints by using safety coefficients. The proposed optimisation method is applied to the design of a potential configuration of a secondary mirror for the beam-down of the CSP Magaldi STEM® technology, although the methodology can be extended to other components of CSP plants, such as primary mirrors and receivers, to further enhance the structural performance of these systems

The incidental question of constitutionality raised by the Court of Lucca provides an opportunity to re ect on the foundations of the prohibitions established by law n. 40 of 2004 and their degree of peremptoriness and non-derogability. Nelson Rodrigues e sua cena: teatro da dupla tensão, cinema da síntese

Programa de Pós-graduação em LiteraturaEsta tese busca uma leitura possível das razões do fracasso de grande parte das adaptações da dramaturgia de Nelson Rodrigues para o cinema. Sua primeira investida percorre o teatro rodrigueano, elaborando o conceito de dupla tensão como marca do autor. A primeira tensão, articulada ainda nos domínios temáticos, responderia pelo embate firmado entre o Brasil anterior à gripe-espanhola e os "novos tempos", dominados por uma modernidade produtora de tripla decadência, como pensa Eric Hobsbawm. A segunda tensão, insinuada nos domínios estéticos, promoveria certo afastamento do conceito de drama puro, segundo teoria de Peter Szondi, ao se deixar contaminar por gêneros diversos, posicionando-se entre o melodramático e o trágico. Neste contexto, Toda nudez será castigada, peça de 1965, seria o ponto mais alto desta trajetória. Tal conformação, perseguida em todo o teatro do autor, não parece ter encontrado eco nas releituras do cinema, quase todas reducionistas do universo tensional. A única experiência de exceção parece acontecer na versão de Arnaldo Jabor justamente para Toda nudez será castigada, filme de 1973 que transforma em ritmo próprio as tensões típicas da dramaturgia rodrigueana, movimento contrário às outras versões, que tentaram corrigi-las com sínteses nas mais variadas proposições

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

In this Presidential Address, the author takes the reader on a reconnaissance of his life and time as a regional scientist. He points out scenery he found scintillating along the way, hoping that some may pick up the banner and chew on a few of the ideas for a while. He suggests a revisit to Albert O.
