Interview of Pamela M. Unger by Alice Duncanson

    No full text
Remote interview.Pamela M. Unger was born in Plainview, Nebraska, in 1943. She obtained a BA in Education with a dual English major, a minor in drama, and a Master of Arts from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. In 1969, she and her husband came to OSU to work on their Ph.D.s in English. In this interview, Unger explains how she became involved in the movement to establish a Center for Women's Studies. These grassroots efforts were led by the Ad Hoc Committee of Women's Studies, which later helped establish the Office of Women's Studies. Unger served as the Interim Director of the Office until a permanent director was found, and she discusses some of the accomplishments she and other women activists were able to achieve during her tenure, including instituting a small-grants program and partially funding a Women's Studies library. She also discusses her current activist work and philosophy on community organizing

"The Current Scientific Status of Psychedelic Drug Research"

    No full text
This paper is a transcript of a speech given by Sanford M. Unger at the Conference on Methods in Philosophy and the Sciences in New York in 1964. In his speech, Unger provides information about what does and can occur when a psychedelic drug is taken. He also reviews the historical, sociological, and legal status of drugs.

    The Allen Unger Commodities Dataset

    No full text
The Database presents price data, published in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in machine-readable form. The original goal was to examine changes in prices and their relation to international trade in early modern Europe. Price series were then expanded from just staple grains and beyond a limited number of years to the entire period ranging from the earliest known series from the High Middle Ages and down to 1914. The geographical range as well as that of commodities continues to expand with continued research and coding of published data. With the larger collection of figures studies of market integration as well as welfare of consumers and other topics has become possible. Continuing support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the National Science Foundation of Britain, the British Academy and NYU Abu Dhabi has made possible the addition of new data and refinement of existing files

Conformal Coating of Powder by Initiated Chemical Vapor Deposition on Vibrating Substrate

    No full text
Encapsulation of pharmaceutical powders within thin functional polymer films is a powerful and versatile method to modify drug release properties. Conformal coating over the complete surface of the particle via chemical vapor deposition techniques is a challenging task due to the compromised gas–solid contact. In this study, an initiated chemical vapor deposition reactor was adapted with speakers and vibration of particles was achieved by playing AC/DC’s song “Thunderstruck” to overcome the above-mentioned problem. To show the possibilities of this method, two types of powder of very different particle sizes were chosen, magnesium citrate (3–10 µm, cohesive powder) and aspirin (100–500 µm, good flowability), and coated with poly-ethylene-glycol-di-methacrylate. The release curve of coated magnesium citrate powder was retarded compared to uncoated powder. However, neither changing the thickness coating nor vibrating the powder during the deposition had influence on the release parameters, indicating, that cohesive powders cannot be coated conformally. The release of coated aspirin was as well retarded as compared to uncoated aspirin, especially in the case of the powder that vibrated during deposition. We attribute the enhancement of the retarded release to the formation of a conformal coating on the aspirin powder

The Unexpected Belle La Follette: Progressive Model for 2016

Professor Nancy Unger talked about women’s rights activist Belle La Follette, who was politically active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Professor Unger is the author of Belle La Follette: Progressive Era Reformer, in which she tells the story of this journalist, suffragist, and pacifist who campaigned alongside her husband and son in their bids for office
