    No full text
The article is devoted to the novel of Sergey Samsonov – The Kamlayev Anomaly. The focus is on the issue of a creative man and his creations. The author maximizes the notion of creative work, going beyond the limits of the sphere of music and bringing it to the sphere of life itself. Samsonov is trying to analyze the state of being of the 21st century human and the cause of human spiritual crisis. Samsonov\u27s writing is considered in the context of the new realism. Author\u27s creative method is also compared with the debatable concept of metamodermism

Application of DInSAR-GPS optimization for derivation of fine-scale surface motion maps of Southern California

    No full text
A method based on random field theory and Gibbs-Markov random fields equivalency within Bayesian statistical framework is used to derive 3-D surface motion maps from sparse global positioning system (GPS) measurements and differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) interferogram in the southern California region. The minimization of the Gibbs energy function is performed analytically, which is possible in the case when neighboring pixels are considered independent. The problem is well posed and the solution is unique and stable and not biased by the continuity condition. The technique produces a 3-D field containing estimates of surface motion on the spatial scale of the DInSAR image, over a given time period, complete with error estimates. Significant improvement in the accuracy of the vertical component and moderate improvement in the accuracy of the horizontal components of velocity are achieved in comparison with the GPS data alone. The method can be expanded to account for other available data sets, such as additional interferograms, lidar, or leveling data, in order to achieve even higher accuracy

Microwave pulse compression using a helically corrugated waveguide

    No full text
There has been a drive in recent years to produce ultrahigh power short microwave pulses for a range of applications. These high-power pulses can be produced by microwave pulse compression. Sweep-frequency based microwave pulse compression using smooth bore hollow waveguides is one technique of passive pulse compression, however, at very high powers, this method has some limitation due to its operation close to cutoff. A special helical corrugation of a circular waveguide ensures an eigenwave with strongly frequency dependent group velocity far from cutoff, which makes the helically corrugated waveguide attractive for use as a passive pulse compressor for very high-power amplifiers and oscillators. The results of proof-of-principle experiments and calculations of the wave dispersion using a particle in cell particle-in-cell (PIC) code are presented. In the experiments, a 70-ns 1-kW pulse from a conventional traveling-wave tube (TWT) was compressed in a 2-m-long helical waveguide. The compressed pulse had a peak power of 10.9 kW and duration of 3 ns. In order to find the optimum pulse compression ratio, the waveguide's dispersion characteristics must be well known. The dispersion of the helix was calculated using the PIC code Magic and verified using an experimental technique. Future work detailing plans to produce short ultrahigh power gigawatt (GW) pulses will be discussed

We reveal nonmanifest gauge and SO(1,5) Lorentz symmetries in the Lagrangian description of a six-dimensional free chiral field derived from the Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson model in [P.-M. Ho and Y. Matsuo, J. High Energy Phys.JHEPFG1029-8479 06 (2008) 105.10.1088/1126-6708/2008/06/105] and make this formulation covariant with the use of a triplet of auxiliary scalar fields. We consider the coupling of this self-dual construction to gravity and its supersymmetrization. In the case of the nonlinear model of [P.-M. Ho, Y. Imamura, Y. Matsuo, and S. Shiba, J. High Energy Phys.JHEPFG1029-8479 08 (2008) 014.10.1088/1126-6708/2008/08/014] we solve the equations of motion of the gauge field, prove that its nonlinear field strength is self-dual and find a gauge-covariant form of the nonlinear action. Issues of the relation of this model to the known formulations of the M5-brane worldvolume theory are discussed

Football – sport competition or commercial entertainment? (S. Samsonov Nogi)

The analysis concentrates on mediatisation and commercialization processes of sport in the contemporary world, and their update in Sergey Samsonov’s work Ноги. The bearer of the idea is a talented Russian football player, reduced to the advertised product and contemporary sport gadget. The situation poses questions relating to the identity and individuality of the hero, as well as possibilities of protection against mechanisms of commercialization; in the broader sense, it epitomizes the condition of the world we all live [email protected] Gdański, Wydział Filologiczny, Instytut Rusycystyki i Studiów WschodnichBorek K., Na wirtualnym stadionie piłka nożna jako przestrzeń wyobraźni, [online], https://www.nck.pl/upload/archiwum_kw_files/artykuly/15 konrad_borek_na_wirtualnym_stadionie.pdf, [15.09.2019]Drozdowski R., 2011, Sport – podwójny agent, [w:] Społeczne zmagania ze sportem, red. 3D multi-source model of elastic volcanic ground deformation

    No full text
Developments in Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) during the past decades have promoted significant advances in geosciences, providing high-resolution ground deformation data with dense spatio-temporal coverage. This large dataset can be exploited to produce accurate assessments of the primary processes occurring in geologically active areas. We present a new, original methodology to carry out a multi-source inversion of ground deformation data to better understand the subsurface causative processes. A nonlinear approach permits the determination of location, size and three-dimensional configuration, without any a priori assumption as to the number, nature or shape of the potential sources. The proposed method identifies a combination of pressure bodies and different types of dislocation sources (dip-slip, strike-slip and tensile) that represent magmatic sources and other processes such as earthquakes, landslides or groundwater-induced subsidence through the aggregation of elemental cells. This approach has the following features: (1) simultaneous inversion of the deformation components and/or line-of-sight (LOS) data; (2) simultaneous determination of diverse structures such as pressure bodies or dislocation sources, representing local and regional effects; (3) a fully 3D context; and (4) no initial hypothesis about the number, geometry or types of the causative sources is necessary. This methodology is applied to Mt. Etna (Southern Italy). We analyze the ground deformation field derived from a large InSAR dataset acquired during the January 2009 – June 2013 time period. The application of the inversion approach models several interesting buried structures as well as processes related to the volcano magmatic plumbing system, local subsidence within the Valle del Bove and seaward motion of eastern flank of the volcano
