Flow Monitoring and Permeability Measurements in LCM Processes by the means of a Dielectric Sensor
Liquid Composite Molding (LCM) processes are manufacturing techniques characterized by the impregnation of a dry fibrous preform, by the means of injection or infusion of a catalyzed resin system. Although computational modelling and simulation have led to a better understanding and more effective planning of LCM processes, on line monitoring of resin flow is very desirable to detect variations of processing conditions. Moreover, an accurate experimental evaluation of fiber preform properties is crucial for a reliable process simulation. In this paper, a dielectric capacitive system has been designed and applied to monitor the position of the saturated as well as the unsaturated flow fronts and to evaluate in plane bulk permeability and tow permeability of dual scale fibrous porous media. The sensors, analysed and optimized by computational simulations, have been used in one-dimensional flow tests. Good agreement has been found between results provided by the considered system and data obtained through conventional techniques, highlighting the potential capabilities of proposed method
Experimental Analysis of the Influence of Process Parameters on Residual Stress in AA2024-T3 Friction Stir Welds
Friction stir welding (FSW) is an innovative joining technique, in which a solid state weld is obtained by means of frictional heating and plastic deformation of the processing material. In recent years, an increasing application of the FSW process has been observed, however, for the effective implementation of the technique in safety-critical components and to predict the fatigue
behavior of FSWed assemblies, an accurate knowledge of the process-induced residual stress is needed. In this paper results, provided by an experimental analysis on the influence of process parameters on the residual stress in 4mm AA2024-T3 butt joints are reported and discussed. The contour method has been applied to evaluate the residual stress. An asymmetric stress distribution has been found in all samples. A significant dependence of the tensile and compressive stress peaks on the feed rate has been found, while a non monotonic influence of the rotating speed has been evidenced
Interlaboratory Comparison of Forming Limit Curves for Hot Stamping of High Strength Steels
The paper presents the approaches followed by two labs - LFT at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) and DIMEG at University of Padua (Italy) - in evaluating formability limits of 22MnB5 sheets when processed under hot stamping conditions. Details about the two testing apparatuses and the testing procedures are outlined, and the results in terms of Forming Limit Curves FLC compared and critically commented
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Investigations on the Mechanical Properties and Formability of Friction Stir Welded Tailored Blanks
Tight competition characterizing automotive industries in the last decades has determined a strong research effort aimed to improve utilized processes and materials in sheet stamping. As far as the latter are regarded light weight alloys, high strength steels and tailored blanks have been increasingly utilized with the aim to reduce parts weight and fuel consumptions. In the paper the mechanical properties and formability of tailored welded blanks made of a precipitation hardenable aluminum alloy but with different sheet thicknesses, have been investigated: both laser welding and friction stir welding have been developed to obtain the tailored blanks. For both welding operations a wide range of the thickness ratios has been considered. The formability of the obtained blanks has been characterized through tensile tests and cup deep drawing tests, in order to show the formability in dependency of the stress condition; what is more mechanical and metallurgical investigations have been made oil the welded joints
Interlaboratory comparison for heat transfer coefficient identification in hot stamping of high strength steels.
The topic of the paper is the identification of the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) in hot stamping of boron steel sheets under conditions very close to the industrial ones. Two approaches followed by one lab in Germany and one lab in Italy are presented for HTC identification, showing the two experimental apparatuses that were set-up to conduct the tests, the procedures developed and applied to identify the HTC. The obtained results are compared in terms of dependence of HTC from the applied contact pressure, the similarities and the differences of the two approaches are outlined and commented
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
