    Steroidal Oligoglycosides from Asteroidea

    No full text
Starfish extracts have been reported to exhibit a broad spectrum of pharmaco logical properties, which are related to the presence of typical steroidal oligoglycosides. In the animal kingdom, these metabolites have only been found in Echinodermata and particularly in the class Asteroidea (sea stars)

Starfish saponins. Part 39. Steroidal oligoglycoside sulfates and polyhydroxysteroids from the starfish Asterina pectinifera

    No full text
A reinvestigation of the exts. of the starfish A. pectinifera has led to the isolation of a novel asterosaponin pectinioside G (I) along with the already reported pectiniosides A, D, and acanthaglycoside C. The exts. contained asterosaponin P-1, previously isolated as sodium salt from Patiria pectinifera and Oreaster reticulatus, and now isolated also as tyramonium salt, and 5 highly hydroxylated steroids, among which I is new

A review about antioxidant activity and biological properties of phytochemical in vegetables and spices (capsicum, laurus, foeniculum)

Starfish saponins. 48. Isolation of fifteen sterol constituents (six glycosides and nine polyhydroxysteroids) from the starfish Solaster borealis

A complete steroid glycoside and polyhydroxysteroid anal. of the starfish S. borealis, collected at Mutsu Bay, Japan, is reported. The glycosides include a new pentaglycoside steroid sulfate (asterosaponin), designated solasteroside A (I), 2 new sulfated 24-O-diglycosides, both with the common 5α-cholesta-3β,6α,8,15α,24-pentaol aglycon, borealosides A (II) and B (III), 2 new 24-O-(3-O-methyl)xylosides, borealosides C (IV) and D (V), having the same aglycon with an addnl. hydroxy group at 4β-position in V, and the known amurenoside B, previously isolated from Asterias amurensis. Among the polyhydroxysteroid constituents, 4 are new, and 5 have previously been isolated from starfishes

STARFISH SAPONINS .30. ISOLATION OF 16 STEROIDAL GLYCOSIDES AND 3 POLYHYDROXYSTEROIDS FROM THE MEDITERRANEAN STARFISH COSCINASTERIAS-TENUISPINA

Sixteen steroidal glycosides were isolated from the starfish C. tenuispina. The more polar components are 10 asterosaponins, consisting of a Δ9(11)-3β,6α-dihydroxysteroidal moiety, a pentasaccharide portion attached at C-6, and a sulfate group at C-3. New saponins are tenuispinosides A-C, (e.g., I). The 2nd group of polar glycosides consists of 2 new xylose saponins, possessing monosulfate polyhydroxysteroidal aglycons and 2 new 4-O-sulfated glucose saponins, assigned as coscinasterosides A-D. The less polar glycosides are the new nonsulfated xylosides, designated as coscinasterosides E (II) and F (III). The structures of the new saponins were detd. by extensive 1H- and 13C-NMR investigations, fast-atom bombardment mass spectroscopy, and comparison with known compds. The location of the sulfate ester functionalities in coscinasterosides A-D were assigned on comparison of their spectral data with those of the corresponding desulfated analogs. C. tenuispina Also contains 3 new monosulfated polyhydroxysteroids (IV-VI)

STARFISH SAPONINS .34. NOVEL STEROIDAL GLYCOSIDE SULFATES FROM THE STARFISH ASTERIAS-AMURENSIS

A reinvestigation of the exts. from the starfish A. amurensis has led to the isolation of 8 novel steroidal glycosides along with major amts. of the already reported glycoside B2, ovarian asterosaponin-1, and ovarian asterosaponin-4. Four novel compds. are asterosaponins assigned as the asteroside A (I), B (II), C (III), and D (IV). Main differences among the novel asterosaponins reside in the steroid side chains. The 2nd group of saponins consists of 4 new polyhydroxysteroidal xylopyranosides, designated amurensosides A (V), B (VI), C (VII), and D (VIII)
