This thesis is entitled The Shifting Functions and Values of Gion Matsuri in Japanese Society. this thesis research aims to analyze the shifting functions and values contained in Gion Matsuri in Japanese society. in writing this thesis the author used descriptive methods. The descriptive method is a research method that seeks to provide a systematic and also careful description of the facts and properties of a particular population. In writing this thesis, the author uses functional theory from Bronislaw Malinowski and cultural value orientation theory or also known as cultural value theory. These two theories are used to find out what functions and values are contained in the Gion Matsuri. In addition, the author also uses the theory of cultural value shifts to find out what functions and values have shifted in the Gion Matsuri. The result of this research is that Gion Matsuri initially functioned to calm the dead due to the plague that occurred in Japan as a form of gratitude to the gods for calming the spirits and the plague that occurred in Japan at that time. Then the function shifted to become a means of entertainment for the Japanese people, as one of cultural tourism and a means of cultural preservation. The value that shifts in Gion Matsuri is the shift in the value of gender equality in Japanese society, which initially women were prohibited from participating in organizing Gion Matsuri because of the belief in the defilement of wani that cannot be purified, namely the kegare belief.59 HalamanSkripsi Sarjan

Human chorionic gonadotropin assays for testicular tumors : closing the gap between clinical and laboratory practice

    No full text
BACKGROUND: Clinical practice guidelines recommend the measurement of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and/or hCG in serum for management of testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs). These guidelines, however, disregard relevant biochemical information on hCG variants to be detected for oncological application. We set out to provide a critical review of the clinical evidence together with a characterization of the selectivity of currently marketed hCG immunoassays, identifying assays suitable for management of GCTs. CONTENT: Evidence sources in the available literature were critically appraised. Most instances of misdiagnosis and mismanagement of testicular GCTs have been associated with hCG results. According to the clinical evidence, 36% of patients with seminoma show an exclusive hCG increase, and 71% of patients with nonseminomatous GCTs (NSGCTs) show an increase of intact hCG and/or hCG hCG, whereas the hCG increase in NSGCTs is variable according to the tumor stage and histology. SUMMARY: hCG hCG assays that display an equimolar recognition of hCG and hCG, or at least do not overtly underestimate hCG, may be employed for management of testicular GCTs. Assays that underestimate hCG are not recommended for oncological application. In addition to the hCG hCG assay in service, an additional assay with broader selectivity for other hCG variants should be considered when false-negative or false-positive results are suspected on the basis of clinical data

This is a literary essay about Gion Kajiko. There is a letter written by Kajiko to Machiko, called “Kajijyo Syojyou” in Yanagisawa library. No one knows Kajiko namely Kajijyo’s personal history, nothing but she is a woman lived in the middle of the Edo period and makes her living by managing the teahouse at the Gion area in Kyoto, by the way Gion is the famous red-light district. She makes wakas on the side. Her wakas are fussed over, so the teahouse has a lot of customers. Kajiko edited anthology of a collection of her wakas called “Kaji-no-ha” or kaji tree’s leaf. By the way, Ohgimachi Machiko is the noble woman, her father is a court noble Ohgimachi Kinnmichi, her mother is Emon-no-suke, that is the top director of the ladies’ chambers in the Edo castle. Why Kajiko wrote letter to Machiko? Because these two ladies, Machiko and Kajiko, ware half-sisters. There was every reason to do so. In this essey I would like to tell, the author of “Kaji-no-ha” are really “Kaji-no-ha”.3論
