Regional Development Perspectives of Production and Utilisation Renewable Fuels in Hungary
The main aim of the present article is to
highlight the regional development perspectives of production
and utilization renewable energy fuels in Hungary. Due to our
model it is possible to examine the relations between the
terms mentioned above. In the model area the most significant
elements are highlighted in relation to renewable fuels and
sustainability. It implies the importance of holistic approach
that is crucial in these investigations. Only marginal attention
is paid to the regional impacts of renewable fuels. Taking
every result into account, this methodologically complex
subject is possible to examine from the point of sustainability.
Sustainable development can not be grasped easily, but the
production and utilization of renewable fuels can be one of
the tools to further the practical implementation of regional
sustainability
SUSTAINABLE COUNTRYSIDE AND COMPETITIVENESS
Sustainability, which is a way of thinking, life, production and consumption, covers all dimensions of human existence, its relation to natural resources, the economy and society. Sustainability can be the solution, beside research and development processes, to global problems like globalising economy and market competition, global warming, poverty and famine. United Nations’ actions from Rio to Johannesburg and EU decisions seem to underpin this. Well intentioned efforts up to the present have been made on global level with few results. Therefore it is necessary to implement sustainability on regional and local sub-regional, company level. Sustainability is getting into the centre of expectations and actions. It is very likely that only regions and subregions recognising the importance of sustainability in time, will be successful and competitive as a result of this advantage. Settlements neglecting sustainability will not be able to keep their inhabitants, the countryside around them will not be able to produce enough products meeting food safety standards, and will exhaust its natural resources fairly quickly. The competitiveness of a region is largely determined by the state and development pattern of its rural areas and settlements. Therefore research has been focused on sustainable countryside and its important elements, sustainable (liveable) settlements. During our investigations we implemented a new indicator and index number set that reflects all dimensions of sustainability, the present situation, and supports the bottom up decision making process of local governments and NGOs in order to promote development. These investigations highlighted the facts that potential competitiveness of a region can only be based on sustainable settlements, subregions and it is essential to eliminate deficiencies that restrain present and future development. Community/Rural/Urban Development, Environmental Economics and Policy, Public Economics, sustainability on regional level, settlements, investigations - fenntarthatóság regionális szintje, települések, beruházások,

Visualizing electromagnetic fields at the nanoscale by single molecule localization
Coupling of light to the free electrons at metallic surfaces allows the confinement of electric fields to subwavelength dimensions, far below the optical diffraction limit. While this is routinely used to manipulate light at the nanoscale,1 in electro-optic devices2 and enhanced spectroscopic techniques,3?6 no characterization technique for imaging the underlying nanoscopic electromagnetic fields exists, which does not perturb the field4,7 or employ complex electron beam imaging.8,9 Here, we demonstrate the direct visualization of electromagnetic fields on patterned metallic substrates at nanometer resolution, exploiting a strong “autonomous” fluorescence-blinking behavior of single molecules within the confined fields allowing their localization. Use of DNA-constructs for precise positioning of fluorescence dyes on the surface induces this distance-dependent autonomous blinking thus completely obviating the need for exogenous agents or switching methods. Mapping such electromagnetic field distributions at nanometer resolution aids the rational design of nanometals for diverse photonic applications
The 1998 Fedele F. and Iris M. Fauri Lecture, University of Michigan School of Social Work
The Fedele F. and Iris M. Fauri Lecture is presented annually in recognition of former University of Michigan Vice President and School of Social Work Dean Fedele F. Fauri and his wife, Iris.
Dean Fauri's leadership in the field of child welfare spanned nearly 50 years, with much of the current social welfare legislation at both state and federal levels being a product of Dean Fauri's activities, first as director of the Michigan Department of Social Services, and then during his years in Washington, DC, where he held numerous leadership positions.
His accomplishments in child welfare and social work education brought national and international acclaim to Dean Fauri, the School of Social Work, and the University of Michigan. This lecture series is funded by gifts from alumni, faculty, and friends, and is intended to serve as a forum for discussing ideas and proposals to enhance the well-being of young people. The Fedele F. and Iris M. "Haszontalan" tárgyak. A 'Konungsnautr' mint koncepció a középkori északon
According to Actor-Network-Theory, an object can have agency in social relations just as much as humans (Latour, 2005). In Old Norse literature, heroic weapons are well-known examples of objects being actors in the formulation of the plot (Torfing, 2012). However, they can have an important influence not solely for their mighty abilities as tools of violence, but sometimes for an unexpected reason as well: their social importance. During this survey, I shed light on the fact that objects are not always handled according to their primary role and function as social symbols rather than actual tools of violence. This fact is illustrated through the examination of two swords called ‘Konungsnautr’ in Laxdaela saga, which are not involved in violent actions, unlike other named weapons in the same saga. Other instances from Egil’s saga, Gunnlaug saga or the saga of Harald Fair-Hair will strengthen the idea that Laxdaela saga is not the only example where symbolic artefacts are actors. An axe used against oxen, swords which do not kill or a cloak which is never worn all testify that “unpractically” handled objects have unique significance in Old Norse world. As we are dealing with objects, it is essential to be aware of the physical nature of these artefacts, thus the literary sources will be investigated alongside archaeological evidence (Eldjárn, 2000; Lund, 2014). This interdisciplinary research aims to develop our understanding about how were objects handled and opens up the possibility that by following actors we can better perceive the function of material culture in Viking societies.BKTörténelemMSc/M
