Notulae Oribatologicae LIV. Cosmogneta cassolai (Acarida, Oribatida), a new species from western Mediterranean countries

Cosmogneta is a small genus of very localized and morphologically peculiar species belonging to the Autognetidae family. To our knowledge, it comprises two species, C. impedita Grandjean, 1960 f, 1975)rom the French Department of Eastenr Pyrenees (Grandjean, 1960) and C. kargi Grandjean, 1963 from Central Germany and Mediterranean France (Grandjean, 1963 Lions, 1975). These taxa are characterized among the Autognetidae by the peculiar morphology of the prodorsal anterior portion, the spoon-shaped le setae and the sensillus, and by the sexual differentiation of the a' seta on leg I (Grandjean, 1963). Cosmogneta has not hitherto been known in Italy. The collection of a new species of this genus is therefore of both systematic and faunistic interest. The finding of this entity in Corsica and Elba islands (Tuscan Archipelago) also gives rise to some biogeographical considerations

Notulae Oribatologicae LIX. Taxonomy and biogeography of the genus Steganacarus Ewing 1917 (Acari Oribatida) in Italy

The Italian species of the genus Steganacarus are revised on the basis of recent research. Three new species are described, Steganacarus (Steganacarus) donatoi, S.(S.) manganellii and S. (Tropacarus) malatestai. The first is characterized, among the Italian steganacarid species, by a deep hole in the corner of the genito-aggenital plates, the second by a globular sensillus head and the third by tuberculated notogastral microsculpture. The Italian steganacarid species described now number 14, a great many in comparison to other Mediterranean countries. The revision allowed to the authors to identify the best diagnostic character-states for future revision of the genus. The ecological and biogeographic characterization of the species examined, moreover, clarified the contribution of the various faunistic waves (the ancient autochthonous, the Messinian and the Plio-Pleistocene) to Italian steganacarid fauna

Taxonomic revision of Carabodes affinis Berlese, 1913 (Acari Oribatida Carabodidae). Notulae Oribatologicae 61

The results of the taxonomic revision of Carahodes affinis Berlese, 1913 are reported. This classic species .is fully rcdeascribed from typical and topotypical materials. Scanning electron microscopy is used to determine hitherto unknown morphological details and intraspecific variability. The analysis of many south European and north African populations Jed to the exact recognition of the diagnostic character-states of this species and of its biogeographical range. This study allows the authors to suggest the evolutionary history of C. affinis and its relationships with the very similar C. marginatus (Michael, 1884) and other carabodid species

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
