    Luise Adelgunde Victorie Gottsched

Johann Christoph Gottsched is an extremely well-known figure in German literary history. He was a prominent author of the enlightenment, and scholars and casual readers of German drama and literature recognize him as one of eighteenth century Germany’s most read authurs. Unfortunately, the light on Johann Gottsched has cast a shadow on his wife, an equally talented author and playwright. Luise Adelgunde Victorie Gottsched wrote many plays in her life and translated many more. Once her husband began compiling the Dictionary of the German Language & Model Grammar, however, she devoted her time to helping him with this monumental task. Because of Johann’s fame (and Luise’s gender) she received little to no credit for her role in the emergence of the enormous text. Again because of her gender and her husband’s established place in literary society, her other works are left relatively unknown

This article analyses the life story of Luise Straus-Ernst, an art historian and first wife of the artist Max Ernst, who was born in Cologne in 1893 and perished in Auschwitz in 1944. She wrote The Treasures of a Nomad in Manosque where she had found refuge thanks to the author, Jean Giono. The retrospective text reflects an awakening as well as the profound reflection of an extraordinary woman confronted with an extreme situation. The text allows us to reconstitutes the different stages of her life and exile in France, and to analyse how she regarded her own past and exile as a woman

Liebe Schwester \u27Dear Sister\u27: Luise Rinser\u27s Unique Relationship with Her Readers

    Get PDF
The life of German author Luise Rinser (1911-2002) spanned almost an entire century. During this time, she witnessed and chronicled two world wars as well as many political and cultural changes in her novels, short stories, essays, and biographical writings. Rinser is a problematic figure as she has retrospectively cleansed and embellished her life story when writing her autobiographical texts. However, the focus of this article is Rinser’s unique relationship to her readers in her autobiographical writing. I argue readers perceived their relationship with the author as a friendship and, even if Rinser did not return that friendship directly, there is a reciprocity between this author and her readers that is rare in the literary world

The widespread use of e-learning systems in many fields of present-day society have made the digital communication systems a matter of current interest. When considering the implementation of computers in education, one needs to examine the factors which promote or inhibit their effectiveness for educational purposes. This involves an examination of how knowlegge is presented, tranmitted and acquired. The ultimate test of e-learning courseware is the change which induces in the user. This will depend upon the individual’s understanding of the whole communication event. In this paper the issues relating to the communication between the author and the audience trough educational media are discussed, with special reference to the design of the material. The results obtained have encouraged our efforts in pursuing this strategy. At the first stage of the project, our evaluation have been directed at some aspects of the system rather than at the success of the system as a whole
