SITH: a 16-channel ASIC for SiPMs Readout in Hadrontherapy Applications
No full textIn hadrontherapy treatments, charged particles deposit a high and localized dose in the tumor volume. Detection of secondary radiations like Prompt Gammas (PG) can be used to monitor the dose profile falloff position, increasing the precision of this technique. In this work we present the design of SITH: an ASIC developed for the readout of Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) coupled with scintillators used in this application. PG characteristics set specific requirements for the front-end electronics such as the capability to process up to 5nC input charge (energy up to 8MeV), timing resolution better than 1ns (e.g. for scattering correction), multiple triggering logic and potential for neutron/photon discrimination. No full textIn this study the results of surveillance activity on doner kebab retailed on the Lucca area are reported. Ten kebab shops were inspected by health officers and food samples, including raw kebab, cooked kebab and sandwiches with kebab, were submitted for microbiological examinations. During surveillance activity some hygiene problems and difficult application of control plan were found. The microbiological analyses showed that doner kebab retailed in Lucca area had acceptable hygienic quality, but further inspections are necessary to improve the hygienic conditions of kebab shops
Outcome of transformed follicular lymphoma worsens according to the timing of transformation and to the number of previous therapies. A retrospective multicenter study on behalf of Fondazione Italiana Linfomi (FIL)
No full textOptimal treatment for transformed follicular lymphoma (tFL) is not fully defined. Clinical characteristics and treatments that impact on post-transformation outcome of 176 biopsy-proven tFL were analysed. Transformation occurred at initial diagnosis in 52% (Group 1) and after a FL diagnosis in 48% (Group 2). Five-year overall survival was 84% for Group 1 and 51% for Group 2 (P < 0·001). In Group 1, 5-year progression-free survival was superior after rituximab maintenance compared to observation only (94% vs. 53%, P = 0·024). In Group 2, an inverse trend was found between survival and both a higher number of pre-transformation treatment lines and a short time-to-transformation
Population-based outcome analysis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in people living with HIV infection and competent individuals.
No full textThe prognostic factors and outcome of 58 acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (AR-DLBCL) patients from the Swiss HIV Cohort Study, diagnosed from 2004 to 2011, were compared with those of 326 immunocompetent (IC)-DLBCL from the Hematology Division of the Amedeo Avogadro University (Italy) and the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland. Median follow-up was 6 years; 5-year overall survival (OS) was 68% (95% CI: 63%-73%) in IC-DLBCL and 63% (95% CI: 49%-75%) in AR-DLBCL (P = .220). The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related lymphoma international prognostic index predicted OS in AR-DLBCL. Among 148 patients younger than 61 years (40 AR-DLBCL and 108 IC-DLBCL) treated with RCHOP/RCHOP-like regimens, 20 IC-DLBCL and 9 AR-DLBCL patients died and OS was not significantly different. A higher proportion of early deaths occurred in the AR-DLBCL: indeed, 1-year OS was 94% (95% CI: 87%-97%) in IC-DLBCL and 82% (95% CI: 66%-91%) in AR-DLBCL patients. After rituximab and active antiretroviral therapy introduction, AR-DLBCL and IC-DLBCL patients treated with curative intent have similar long-term survival
