Reducing impact of conflicting data in DDFS by using second order knowledge
No full textFusing estimation information in a Distributed Data Fusion System (DDFS) is a challenging problem. One of the main issues is how to detect and handle conflicting data coming from multiple sources. In fact, a key of success of a Data Fusion System is the ability to detect wrong information. In this paper, we propose the inclusion of reliability assessment of information sources in the fusion process. The evaluated reliability imposes constraints on the use of information data. We applied our proposal in the challenging scenario of Multi-Agent Multi-Object Tracking. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010
Experimental Investigation on Green Roofs' Thermal Performance in Turin (Italy)
No full textGreen roofs can offer benefits in energy savings for both heating and cooling demand with positive effects on the energy performance of buildings especially during summertime; in particularly, this technology can be considered as a passive cooling technique that attenuate the amount of incoming solar irradiation and cooling load. The purpose of the experimental analysis performed on green roofs is to evaluate the thermal performance of the entire technology in relation to its thickness, surface mass, thermal resistance, thermal inertia, moisture content in the same climatic condition. Many measurement campaigns on green roofs were carried out during heating and cooling seasons and different parameters were used to analyze their thermal behavior; some of these are measured and other are calculated and the measured parameters are closely tied to the climatic data in which measurement campaigns were carried out. Measured data have been calculated as function of calculated parameters and climatic data to assess the real thermal behavior of green roofs. With this research a mathematical model for the thermal behavior of green roofs and for the evaluation of temperatures in the soil has been identified
Multi-robot patrolling with coordinated behaviours in realistic environments
No full textMulti-robot patrolling is a fundamental functionality for multi-robot surveillance and environmental monitoring and has been longly investigated. However, benchmarks for multi-robot patrolling, the realization of realistic simulators and testing on real robotic platforms are still very limited. In this paper we discuss the application of state-of-the-art patrolling strategies in realistic applications, showing that it is important to take into account: perception needs of the robots, uncertainty on action execution, characteristics of the environment, closed-loop coordinated behaviors, and realistic simulation environments. © 2011 IEEE

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
