Special Section on IEEE MeMeA 2017
Nowadays, recent advancements in measurements of physiological parameters and monitoring of cognitive activities allow developing and delivering cognitive training and personalized treatments for several diseases. As a matter of fact, measuring is the basis and the challenge of medical diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy, being therefore the cornerstone of medical practice, education, and research
A Novel Method for Phase Noise Measurement Based on Cyclic Complementary Autocorrelation
A novel digital signal processing-based method for phase noise measurement on sinusoidal signals is proposed. The method obtains the power spectral density of the phase noise by Fourier transforming its autocorrelation function. The autocorrelation function of the phase noise is in turn derived from the cyclic complementary autocorrelation function of the analytical version of the sinusoidal signal under test. The method proves that, taking advantage of the cyclostationarity properties of the signal under test, it is possible to improve the sensitivity in phase noise measurements by diminishing the effects of the instrumentation noise, which mainly limits the performance of the majority of the digital processing-based approaches
Medical measurements: A need and a challenge
Medical measurements and devices continue to deal with the measurands' variability over time and among patients due to a multitude of intrinsic and extrinsic factors; then, there is an increasing need of sensors and embedded systems for noninvasive measurements. Furthermore, the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of the implemented methods and systems are the main concerns of researchers in medical measurements and applications in a context of increasing cost-conscious customers, governments, and regulatory agencies
Masterplan 2.
The most emblematic form in which this landscape dimension is embodied lies in those liminal urban materials, those that mediate the passage between the soil of earth and the water. The Riva San Vito, subject of this study, is precisely one of these places. It is a significant piece of the earthly landscape.
This study foreshadows a new urban space to accommodate work spaces for fishing and the mooring of boats, space for flows, public spaces and rest areas, leisure and tourism.
Through observations, investigations at different scales and on different materials, with simulations and images of possible urban futures, the Riva San Vito is proposed here as a new "lakeside promenade", a lagoon boulevard suspended between land and water, between coast and lagoon, between millenary history and the daily contemporaneity of lagoon sailors and fishermen
HABITAT MONITORING AND COASTAL MARINE SPECIES IN SIC-ZPS ASINARA ISLAND
Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) is the European Union’s new community programme for its monitoring activities. We present the results of the studies of the POR FESR Sardinia 2007-2013 made in according to the MSP indications, project regarding habitats and species of the SIC and ZPS
Uncertainty analysis of the magnetic field measurement by the translating coil method in axisymmetric magnets
In the uncertainty assessment of magnetic flux measurements in axially symmetric magnets
by the translating coil method, the Guide to the Uncertainty in Measurement and its
supplement cannot be applied: the voltage variation at the coil terminals, which is the actual
measured quantity, affects the flux estimate and its uncertainty. In this paper, a particle filter,
implementing a sequential Monte-Carlo method based on Bayesian inference, is applied. At
this aim, the main uncertainty sources are analyzed and a model of the measurement process
is defined. The results of the experimental validation point out the transport system and the
acquisition system as the main contributions to the uncertainty budget
