Chronology on Dayan Qaγan
From 1547 till 1628, just before its conquest by the Manchus, Inner Mongolia was divided into six Mongol states each headed by a qaγan, namely Ordos, Tümed and Qaračin to the west and Čaqar, Inner Qalqa and Qorčin to the east of the Khingan Mountains, while Outer Mongolia was under the rule of three qaγans of Outer Qalqa. The royal families of all those states save that of Qorčin had descended from Dayan qaγan, himself a descendant of Činggis qaγan. Such an important historical personage as he was, it has not yet been determined just when he lived and died. There are ten Mongol chronicles, all composed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, that report on his reign. Three of those are found to have best preserved the historical traditions of the aforementioned states, quite independent of each other: Erdeni-yin tobči of Ordos, Altan tobči of Tümed and Ganga-yin urusqal of Čaqar. The Tümed chronicle is the most accurate in chronology up until the reign of Manduγuli qaγan who died in 1479. His successor, Dayan qaγan’'s father Bolqu ǰinong, is reported to have died in 1487 in a contemporary Chinese source, Ming Hsien-tsung Shih-lu. As for the length of Dayan qaγan’s reign, both Altan tobči and Gangga-yin urusqal give 37 years. Thus the date of his death falls in 1524, one year after the death of his eldest son Törö bolad, who is said in the Ordos chronicle to have died before the father. After Dayan qaγan’s death, his third son Bars bolad ǰinong took over the throne, according to the Čaqar chronicle for one month, but Bodi alaγ, son of Törö bolad and the rightful heir, backed by the left-wing tribes, forced him to retire. Erdeni-yin tobči reports that Bars bolad died in 1531, seven years later. All the three Mongol chronicles and a Chinese source, Ming Hsien-tsung Shih-lu, concur in asserting that Bodi alaγ qaγan died in 1547, that is, 23 years after his grandfather’s death, and this is the very number Altan tobči gives for the duration of his reign. Thus it is established that Dayan qaγan was on the Mongol throne from 1487 till 1524. As for the date of his birth, 1464 is preserved in the Ordos chronicle, most probably culled from an old genealogical work. Judged from ages of his sons and grandsons, especially that of Bodi alaγ qaγan, this date is quite reliable, while earlier birth-dates of Dayan qaγan’s predecessors are all false, often anachronistic, suggesting that he was the first one in the original family-tree whose birth-date was recorded.journal articl

Stability and changes in astaxanthin ester composition from Haematococcus pluvialis during storage
In this paper, we investigated the effects of temperature, oxygen, antioxidants, and corn germ oil on the stability of astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis under different storage conditions, and changes in the composition of astaxanthin esters during storage using high performance liquid chromatography and spectrophotometry. Oxygen and high temperatures (22-25 degrees C) significantly reduced the stability of astaxanthin esters. Corn germ oil and antioxidants (ascorbic acid and vitamin E) failed to protect astaxanthin from oxidation, and actually significantly increased the instability of astaxanthin. A change in the relative composition of astaxanthin esters was observed after 96 weeks of long-term storage. During storage, the relative amounts of free astaxanthin and astaxanthin monoesters declined, while the relative amount of astaxanthin diesters increased. Thus, the ratio of astaxanthin diester to monoester increased, and this ratio could be used to indicate if astaxanthin esters have been properly preserved. If the ratio is greater than 0.2, it suggests that the decrease in astaxanthin content could be higher than 20%. Our results show that storing algal powder from H. pluvialis or other natural astaxanthin products under vacuum and in the dark below 4 degrees C is the most economical and applicable storage method for the large-scale production of astaxanthin from H. pluvialis. This storage method can produce an astaxanthin preservation rate of at least 80% after 96 weeks of storage

In this study, an experimental work is presented to determine the effects of two different fancy yarn structures (chenille and macaroni) and four different raw materials (acrilic, cotton, polyester and viscose) on the abrasion and tensile propertries of woven upholstery fabrics. Results were evaluated by SPSS statistical program. All test results were assessed at a confidence level of at least 95% (at most 5% significance level). The abrasion resistance and tenacity values of chenille and macaroni yarns were measured too. Abrasion resistance and tenacity values of chenille and macaroni yarns are affected significantly by material type and fancy yarn structure. Macaroni yarns show higher weight loss (%) ratio and tenacity values than chenille yarns. Thickness values of chenille fabrics are higher than macaroni fabrics. Weight loss (%) values of chenille fabrics are higher than macaroni fabrics. The macaroni fabrics show higher stress values at max. load than chenille fabrics. The cotton and polyester yarns are abraded less than others. Polyester yarns and fabrics show the highest tensile strength values. Viscose yarns and fabrics less resistant to abrasion
Dopamine restores reward prediction errors in old age
Senescence affects the ability to utilize information about the likelihood of rewards for optimal decision-making. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging in humans, we found that healthy older adults had an abnormal signature of expected value, resulting in an incomplete reward prediction error (RPE) signal in the nucleus accumbens, a brain region that receives rich input projections from substantia nigra/ventral tegmental area (SN/VTA) dopaminergic neurons. Structural connectivity between SN/VTA and striatum, measured by diffusion tensor imaging, was tightly coupled to inter-individual differences in the expression of this expected reward value signal. The dopamine precursor levodopa (L-DOPA) increased the task-based learning rate and task performance in some older adults to the level of young adults. This drug effect was linked to restoration of a canonical neural RPE. Our results identify a neurochemical signature underlying abnormal reward processing in older adults and indicate that this can be modulated by L-DOPA

The findings indicated that overgrazing, agricultural activities, construction and water and soil pollution were the major threatened factors on the habitat of this critically endangered (CR) species. In situ and ex situ conservation strategies were presented and discussed. It is suggested that B. edirnensis is prone to extinction in nature in near future unless an effectiveconservation strategy is established as soon as possibl
Islamist movements at crossroads: the choice between ideology and context-driven approach to politics. Case study on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
The aim of the paper is to analyse the ongoing transformation process within the Islamist movements using the example of the moderate Islamic Action Front party in Jordan. The dilemma of participation in the 2010 general elections raised tensions between the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan and its political wing, the Islamic Action Front, and between doves and hawks of the same organizations. Internal debate on the future has started recently among different groups within the Islamist movement in Jordan. The research is based on the author‘s recent field experience in Jordan (April–July 2010, Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship at the American Centre of Oriental Research, Amman, Jordan). The author also conducted research in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Egypt, where several interviews were carried out with leading and lower level Islamist politicians. The dynamic changes within Islamic Action Front Party in Jordan and its relation with the regime has been used as reference point. The main question of the research was aa how the changing political and regional context shapes decisions of the Islamist with special attention to the acceptance of democratic values and human rights, political participation, and the meanings of Islamic values in the 21st century, possible cooperation with secular parties/movements/the regime
