Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
A socio-rhetorical exegesis of 1 Timothy 2:8-15
No full textIn this thesis two interralted tasks are undertaken. First, this thesis is an attempt to gain mastery of an interpretive methodology, namely, socio-rhetorical analysis. Second, by looking at a crucial text that has major implications for the contemporary church, I have applied this method of analysis to a particularly Scriptural text, namely, 1 Timothy 2:8-15. In this thesis I demonstrate using socio-rhetorical analysis that the discourse contained in 1 Timothy 2:8-15 constitutes baptised patriarchal cultural practices and traditions from the dominant Greco-Roman culture of the first century. I demonstrate, therefore, that the portrayal of women in the text reflects a cultural imperative, and not a theological imperative, that was co-opted from the ""secular"" Greco-Roman culture of the day and transposed, using Scriptural texts as authentication, into the Christian community at Ephesus. Thus the text is simply re-enforcing normative Greco-Roman cultural values upon Christian women and camouflaging it as a Christian norm in order to persuade women to conform to patriarchal cultural standards. Such persuasion, however, is hardly required unless one has already accepted cultural assumptions about the subordination and silencing (objectification) of women in an androcentric hegemonic culture

No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Leaf dynamics of timothy and meadow fescue under nordic conditions
No full textAbstract Leaf production dynamics of timothy (Phleum pratense L. cv. Tarmo) and meadow fescue (Festuca pratensis Huds. cv. Kalevi) were studied under field conditions in mixed swards containing timothy, meadow fescue and red clover (Trifolium pratense) harvested by cutting. Fifteen randomly selected tillers of both species were marked and leaf number, leaf appearance rate (LAR), leaf elongation rate (LER) leaf senescence rate (LSR) and leaf live span (LLS) were followed through weekly observations. Concurrently another set of fifteen tillers of each species was dissected on each occasion to determine the number of unemerged leaves and development stage of the apex. The first observation period was between 26 April and 22 June and the second between 22 July and 22 September. The species differed clearly for most of the measured parameters but most differences were dependent on the season. In spring, timothy started growth earlier, had higher LAR (+57 %) produced more leaves (+83%) with higher LERgross( +58%), higher LSR (+61%), higher LERnet (+54%) and produced larger tillers (+193% in leaf area) than meadow fescue. In autumn timothy still had a higher LAR (+80%), produced more leaves (+60%) with higher LERgross (+36%), but had also a higher LSR (+77%) and thus similar LERnet (0%) to meadow fescue. Timothy tillers were only slightly larger than meadow fescue tillers (+20% in leaf area). The consequences of these findings on competition in mixed swards and implications for grazing theories are discussed.vo

Extension to UML-B Notation and Toolset

However, the notation currently only supports a basic diagram set. To address this we have, in this project, designed and implemented a set of extensions to the UML-B notation that provide a much fuller software engineering experience, critically making UML-B more appealing to industry partners. These extensions comprise five new diagram types, which are aimed at supplying a broader range of design capabilities, such as conceptual Use-Case design and future integration with the ProB animator tool
