No full textFojas begins the preface to her book with a reference to May 1, 2006, a date on which American workers recognized International Labor Day by boycotting their jobs and marching to reject a law that repressed undocumented workers at the same time that it proposed the construction of a wall along the whole 700-mile Mexican border. The author claims that this protest marked a new era in the predicament of workers at the bottom of the labor market (vii). For Fojas, this moment marks a new visibility for Latinos and immigrant communities.
It is against this historical and political horizon that Camilla Fojas undertakes her study of how Hollywood cinema has framed and continues to frame our image (national and international) of the Mexico-U.S. frontier. No full textPopulation over 65 years old has been increasing worldwide in the last decades. So has increased psychoanalytic consultation of elderly people. This paper approaches the possible advantages of such psychoanalytic treatments in persons who have surpassed middle-age crisis and are in the process of aging. The author emphasizes on the conflicts between the projects born from ideals and what was or still can be achieved, and on setting aspirations into a new perspective. The author also brings up depression and mourning for losses that have occurred as well as for the diminishing of body functions and the harm and loss on the image of the body from the youth. A clinical vignette from an analysis illustrates these ideas. En las últimas décadas la población de más de 65 años viene en aumento en el mundo entero. También las consultas de personas mayores. En este trabajo se abordan los beneficios posibles de los tratamientos psicoanalíticos con personas en proceso de envejecimiento. Se hace hincapié en los conflictos entre los proyectos trazados en función de los ideales y lo logrado o pasible de lograrse, y el redimensionamiento de las aspiraciones. Planteamos asimismo la situación de depresión y duelo por las pérdidas sobrevenidas así como por la disminución de funciones corporales y el menoscabo y pérdida de la imagen del cuerpo de la juventud. A review of international market forecasting and testing the Multiple Factor Analysis Technique
No full textActive participation in international trade is a must for the governments and business of today's rapidly changing world. This situation enforces the need to have extensive information on market potential estimation methods. Special factors related to international markets such as data deficiency and unexpected data needs make the market assessment task a much more difficult and complicated issue.
In this study, first, an attempt is made to have a compact inventory of existing international forecasting techniques. Different classification schemes from the literature are presented. In order to evaluate the available international forecasting techniques, nine evaluative factors have been defined and used in an overall evaluation attempt. These efforts showed that none of the existing techniques are very applicable and successful in international markets.
Second, Multiple Factor Technique is presented as a low-cost, preliminary market assessment technique that can be utilized in international markets. The mechanics of the technique and it's rationale are discussed with a brief developmental background. The technique is tested by using different number of variables with unweighted and weighted market potential indices. The United States is chosen as the reference market while the United Kingdom is the target market. A durable consumer good (VCR) and a non-durable consumer good (beer) are used to test the Multiple Factor Technique with ten years (1974-1983) data.
Multiple Factor Technique seem to be more accurate with non-durable products than with durable products. Meanwhile, this author believes that the results may have something to do with the maturity of both reference and target markets. For example, if the target country is immature but the reference country mature, MFT might be effective for future market potential estimates.
Furthermore, a Multiple Factor Technique based short term forecasting attempt shows that the technique is as much applicable as it is for a market assessment technique. Future studies will improve our understanding as well as our ability to apply the Multiple Factor Technique.M.S
Localization based dynamics in the renewable energy sector
No full textPurpose - This paper examines the upwards trend of utilizing localization as a strategy by Multinational Enterprises in the energy sector. It is a sector that is driven by the governments, due to the ever-growing need for survivability and sustainability in a world increasingly dependent on energy. Methodology - In-depth interview is the chosen method to obtain the critical opinions of small number of respondents who play a crucial role for decision-making in a leading company that prefers to utilize localization. This data is collated into a content analysis to determine the factors influencing it. Findings- Localization from a global company engaging in renewable energy sector can be desirable, and indeed, profitable, insomuch as the right conditions outlined by the interviewees are created. Conclusion- It is the intent of the author to build the first step of a guide to attract more positive attention from MNEs to encourage more technology transfer.Publisher's Versio

No full textThe present report, approaches working through as a concept that shows the work on the resistances in analysis, connected to memory and historic re-signifying, all of which enable psychic change. A difference is stated between working out as characteristic of the psyche’s normal functioning or analyst’s task, and working through as distinctive of the patient’s work in analysis. The author makes a brief survey of Freud’s different ideas on the cure and points out the polysemy and present arguments on the concept of working through. Finally, some points on the work in analysis are stated, taking as a reference a clinical vignette.El presente trabajo aborda el tema de la perlaboración como trabajo sobre las resistencias en el análisis en conexión con la memoria y la resignificación histórica que abre a las posibilidades del cambio psíquico. Se distingue entre el trabajo elaborativo, propio del funcionamiento normal del psiquismo y del trabajo del analista, de la perlaboración como distintivo del trabajo del analizando. Se hace un breve recorrido por distintas concepciones de la cura en Freud y se plantea la polisemia, y discusión actual, acerca del concepto de perlaboración. No full textEnviar un artículo a una revista arbitrada por pares -como lo es Revista Cadena de Cerebros- para buscar su publicación es un paso emocionante para cualquier autor, tanto que cuando se trata de una obra elaborada por 2 personas o más, todos sienten la misma preocupación y necesidad de conocer el estatus editorial en el que se encuentra su artículo. Hablando desde la posición del equipo editorial de la revista, quienes día con día trabajan evaluando varios artículos de pies a cabeza -revisiones que pueden durar desde varias horas hasta días completos, esto dependiendo de la complejidad de la obra-, resulta un tanto difícil comunicar los resultados de las evaluaciones a todos los autores del artículo y, aún peor, cuando cada autor responde por su cuenta a los comentarios o dudas de los revisores. Para evitar este problema de comunicación autores-equipo editorial en obras realizadas por 2 o más personas y, con el fin de prevenir conflictos entre autores y/o malos entendidos con las autoridades de la revista y revisores externos, se debe designar un "autor de correspondencia".
Sending an article to a peer-reviewed journal, such as the Revista Cadena de Cerebros, to find its publication is an exciting step for any author, so much so that when it comes to a work written by 2 or more people, they feel the same concern and the need to know the editorial status of the article. Speaking from the position of the editorial team of the journal, who day after day work evaluating several articles from head to toe -reviews that can last from several hours to full days, this depending on the complexity of the work-, it is somewhat difficult to communicate the results of the evaluations to all the authors of the article and, even worse, when each author responds on his own to the comments or doubts of the reviewers. To avoid this problem of communication authors-editorial team in works carried out by 2 or more people and, in order to prevent conflicts between authors and/or misunderstandings with the authorities of the journal and external reviewers, a "correspondence author" must be designated
Damage detections in nonlinear vibrating thermally loaded plates
No full textIn this work, geometrically nonlinear vibrations of fully clamped rectangular plates subjected to thermal changesare used to study the sensitivity of some vibration response parameters to the presence of damage and elevated temperature. The geometrically nonlinear version of the Mindlin plate theory is used to model the plate behaviour.Damage is represented as a stiffness reduction in a small area of the plate. The plates are subjected to harmonicloading leading to large amplitude vibrations and temperature changes. The plate vibration response is obtained by a pseudo-load mode superposition method. The main results are focussed on establishing the influence of damage on the vibration response of the heated and the unheated plates and the change in the time-history diagrams and the Poincaré maps caused by damage and elevated temperature. The damage criterion formulated earlier for nonheated plates, based on analyzing the points in the Poincaré sections of the damaged and healthy plate, is modified and tested for the case of plates additionally subjected to elevated temperatures. The importance of taking into account the actual temperature in the process of damage detection is shown
