di Lettere torinese, scrive nel maggio del 1909 a
Prezzolini, direttore della “Voce”, per proporsi come
collaboratore alla rivista. Solo tre anni sarebbero
trascorsi prima di poter registrare l’invio della prima
missiva di Longhi a Berenson (settembre 1912),
missiva che apre il richiamato carteggio tra i due
grandi storici dell’arte che non solo è, come si è detto,
pressoché coevo a quello che presentiamo, ma anche
con esso si interseca attraverso il contenuto di alcune
interessanti lettere che possiamo qui leggere. Inoltre,
come nel caso precedente, un giovane Longhi
ci appare ben agguerrito nel manifestare le proprie
aspirazioni e indiscusse qualità culturali, associate
alla volontà di porsi in quell’inizio di secolo come
un profondo innovatore della critica d’arte. Quasi
con insofferenza giudica così, egli ancora studente
universitario, il suo milieu: “Dio, che muffa, che
lezzo!”
Con le sue sessantatre lettere, in gran parte inedite,
il carteggio non solo risulta dunque un’importante
vetrina per poter meglio conoscere il giovane Longhi
(le cui missive sono all’incirca doppie di quelle del
suo corrispondente) ma pure ci appare come una
significativa occasione per aggiungere nuovi preziosi
elementi ad un quadro storico che al debutto
del Novecento risultava già attraversato, con il fiato
delle avanguardie, da numerose e vitali istanze di
rinnovamento

No full textValvular heart disease (VHD) refers to a series of disorders that affect the heart valves by altering their correct functioning; they are divided into two main categories: stenosis (defined as a narrowing of the valve orifice) and insufficiency (which causes a lack of coaptation of the valvular leaflets leading to a retrograde blood regurgitation) [1]. VHD encompasses several common cardiovascular conditions that account for 10% to 20% of all cardiac surgical procedures in the United States. The most frequent VHD occurs in the so-called left heart and therefore affects the aortic and mitral valves. With regard to the former, aortic valve stenosis (AVS) represents the most widespread valvulopathy in Western countries, mostly determined by the development of calcifications linked to ageing processes, reaching a prevalence of 3% in the population over 70 years of age [2]; the age of onset of severe AVS stenosis is 50 years for patients with bicuspid aortic valve and 30 years for patients with unicuspid aortic valve. In developing countries, rheumatic disease remains the leading cause of aortic valvulopathy [2]

No full textBy recognizing the importance of tourism as a socioeconomic phenomenon,
this book has contributed to the advancement of the knowledge in
the fields of tourism management, marketing, and development, with a
specific focus on the role of physical and digital networks and Information
and Communcation Technologies (ICTs). The first theme that can be identified is the importance of cooperative
networks and collaborative ventures between the diverse and multifaceted
stakeholders of a tourism destination. The second common theme that clearly emerges from the volume is
the ever-increasing importance of digital networks and ICTs. ICTs not
only are generating a major shift in the performance of individuals and
companies involved in the tourism sector (e.g., by increasing efficiency
and effectiveness in the reservation and booking processes), but also have
a significant impact on the way individuals consume services and enjoy
experiences in space and time. The third common topic is related to the importance and the role of
network structures, be them digital (see Part I of the book) or physical
(see Part II of the book). Their evolution inf luences a number of aspects
crucial for the development of a tourism destination such as cooperation
( Chapters 8 and 9 ), performance ( Chapters 2 and 7 ), information

No full textA partire dell’incipit del Carlo Braccesco, il presente saggio indaga alcuni degli intrecci attraverso i quali Roberto Longhi si è fatto memoria attiva in vari scrittori del Novecento. Scrittore e maestro di scrittori, Longhi ha agito sia attraverso tratti stilistici sia attraverso un “occhio” e un sentimento delle cose che ne hanno reso talmente indimenticabile la lezione da permettere di parlare di una “funzione Longhi” nel corso della seconda metà del secolo trascorso. Sintomatica la coincidenza, per esempio, a partire da differenti versioni – tra Mario Soldati, Giorgio Bassani, Giovanni Testori –, di aneddoti dalle risonanze “proustiane”. Da questo e da altri riscontri è possibile aggiungere un capitolo nuovo alla cospicua bibliografia che su Longhi si è addensata, e che ha notoriamente un punto di snodo nei celebrati scritti di Gianfranco Contini
Influence of alkali metal cations on the rate of oxygen evolution from a mixed Mg-LiCoO2 oxide
No full textO2 evolution from a mixed Mg-LiCoO2 oxide is investigated in base solns. of alkali metal cations (0.1-2 M LiOH, KOH, or CsOH) without added supporting electrolytes. Tafel slopes range 30-50 mV/decade, scarcely related to the used alkali. However, Tafel lines are displaced to more pos. potentials in passing from CsOH to KOH and LiOH at the same concn., and moreover, reaction orders with respect to OH- decrease from .apprx.3 to .apprx.1 along the same alkali sequence with fractional rather than integer values. The reaction mechanism is examd. on the assumption that Temkin-type adsorption conditions apply to the many reacting intermediates possibly involved. Anal. equations representing Tafel slope and reaction order in Temkin conditions are derived and reported for many frequently adopted O2 evolution pathways, most of them for the first time. From these equations, the exptl. behavior is reconciled with a const. mechanism (Kobussen's path) in which the rate-detg. step varies depending on the alkali cation, shifting forward in the sequence of elementary steps from early positions in CsOH and KOH to the last one in which mol. O2 is released in LiOH. Cation interactions with reacting surface sites apparently intervene to modify the reaction activation free energy profile, stronger for Li+ than K+ and Cs+. Structural relations with Li+ (and Mg2+) sites in the oxide lattice may be involved. However, the interaction sequence, Li+ > K+ > Cs+, is similar to that obsd. at the interface of many structurally and chem. unrelated oxides suspended in water and is attributed to entropic contributions from interactions of water mols. bonded in the hydration ion cosphere and at the oxide-soln. interface
