No full textEm 1813, Friedrich Schleiermacher publicou “Sobre os diferentes métodos de tradução”, abrindo espaço para uma consistente discussão acerca da tensão “estranhamento–domesticação”. O filósofo passa pela questão do que seria uma preservação do texto original a fim de que seja transmitido aos leitores um patrimônio de outra sociedade, por meio da tradução. José Paulo Paes, poeta, ensaísta e profícuo tradutor paulista. É autor de Tradução: a ponte necessária. Aspectos e problemas da arte de traduzir. Nesse livro, ele comenta sobre escolhas linguísticas que fez ao traduzir alguns textos poéticos, sobre questões concernentes à crítica e à teoria da tradução. Na presente análise serão discutidos pontos de intercessão entre o discurso do tradutor brasileiro e o do filósofo alemão, no que tange à tradução de textos literários – principalmente quanto à busca por uma equivalência estrangeirizante no texto traduzido.In 1813 Friedrich Schleiermacher published "On the Different Methods of Translating", paving the way for a consistent discussion about the tension "strangeness-domestication". In this book, the author, who was born in São Paulo, comments some of his linguistic choices when he translated poetic texts. He also points out some issues concerning the criticism and theory of translation.In this analysis, points of intersections between the discourse of the Brazilian translator and the German philosopher will be discussed - especially regarding the search for a foreign equivalence in the translated text.

No full textThis paper doesn´t attempt to situate the figure of Paulo Freire in the context of Latin America
or international pedagogy. In this paper, the author presents a synthesis of the Angicos (Brasil) political
literacy experience, asking what Freire learned from the Angiços experience. The following questions are
developed in the paper: How Freire consolidated his pedagogical model through a social science based on a
critical hermeneutics? How his thinking evolved into a theory of social and cultural reproduction, looking
particularly to the role o education? And, how then Freire moved into a critical social psychology focusing
on domination and the developmental pedagogical subject? Freire was inspired by the profound political
and pedagogical experience of Angicos and his political pedagogical practice, understood praxis as collective
learning. At the conclusion, the author discusses the two obsessions of Freire, already present in the Angicos
experience and that stay with him throughout his life: the relationship between democracy, citizenship and
education, and education as a postcolonial ethical act of social transformation.Este trabalho não se foca na figura de Paulo Freire no contexto da América Latina ou da
pedagogia internacional. O artigo apresenta uma síntese da experiência política de alfabetização desenvolvida
por Freire en Angicos (Brasil) e questiona o que Freire aprendeu com ela. Diversas perguntas são
desenvolvidas neste trabalho: como Freire conseguiu consolidar seu modelo de ensino como uma ciência
social baseado na hermenêutica crítica? Como o pensamento de Freire evoluiu de uma teoría da reprodução
social e cultural, olhando em particular para o papel da educação? E, como logo Freire desenvolveu uma
psicologia crítica e social para analizar a dominação e o desenvolvimento do sujeito pedagógico? Freire tendo
sido inspirado pela extraordinária experiência política e pedagógica de Angicos e pela sua práctica política
pedagógica, entendeu a praxis como uma aprendizagem coletiva. Nas conclusões, o autor analisa duas das

No full textA partir das relações familiares estabelecidas no seio do grupo mercantil ativo na cidade de São Paulo ao longo dos séculos XVIII e XIX, pretende-se narrar as trajetórias de vida de nove agentes comerciais envolvidos nas alianças matrimoniais, destacando os negócios realizados, a atuação sociopolítica e o encaminhamento dado aos descendentes. Em seguida, busca-se articular o desenvolvimento urbano do centro da capital com a atuação destes homens de negócio, concentrando as análises sobre aspectos da vida material relacionados às suas moradias e ao mobiliário existente no espaço doméstico.Based on the family ties established within the active merchant community of the city of São Paulo through the 18th and 19th centuries, the author sets out to tell the life story of nine merchants involved in matrimonial alliances, with a focus on the transactions carried out, their sociopolitical engagement and the fortunes of their descendants. Having done that, she seeks out connections between the urban development of the city center and the activities of these businessmen by means of analyses centered on the material aspects of their lives, particularly those related to their homes and home furniture

No full textCONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES: Themes like alcohol and drug abuse, relationship difficulties, psychoses, autism and personality dissociation disorders have been widely used in films. Psychiatry and psychiatric conditions in various cultural settings are increasingly taught using films. Many articles on cinema and psychiatry have been published but none have presented any methodology on how to select material. Here, the authors look at the portrayal of abusive use of alcohol and drugs during the Brazilian cinema revival period (1994 to 2008). DESIGN AND SETTING: Qualitative study at two universities in the state of São Paulo. METHODS: Scenes were selected from films available at rental stores and were analyzed using a specifically designed protocol. We assessed how realistic these scenes were and their applicability for teaching. One author selected 70 scenes from 50 films (graded for realism and teaching applicability > 8). These were then rated by another two judges. Rating differences among the three judges were assessed using nonparametric tests (P < 0.001). Scenes with high scores (> 8) were defined as "quality scenes". RESULTS: Thirty-nine scenes from 27 films were identified as "quality scenes". Alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, hallucinogens and inhalants were included in these. Signs and symptoms of intoxication, abusive/harmful use and dependence were shown. CONCLUSIONS: We have produced rich teaching material for discussing psychopathology relating to alcohol and drug use that can be used both at undergraduate and at postgraduate level. Moreover, it could be seen that certain drug use behavioral patterns are deeply rooted in some Brazilian films and groups

Neste ensaio, o autor oferece uma visão de conjunto dos quatro séculos e meio da História de São Paulo, desde o início da colonização portuguesa até os dias atuais. O trabalho está dividido em três partes: das origens à Independência (1822); da Independência à República (1889); e industrialização e a construção da cidade moderna. No percurso, uma reflexão sobre os principais autores que trataram do assunto, de Cortesão e Boxer a Caio Prado Júnior, Richard Morse e Milton Santos.How did São Paulo become one of the three largest cities in the planet during the 20th century? Although its development is frequently compared to that of cities like Liverpool, Milan, and Chicago, São Paulo possesses an identity of its own. In this essay, the author offers four centuries and a half of São Paulo\u27s history, from the earliest stages of portuguese colonization to modern times. Centenário de Paulo Freire: entrevista com Moacir Gadotti
No full textIn October of this year, Moacir Gadotti turned 80 in full activity. Author of several works and owner of an extensive curriculum, the professor holds a teaching degree in Pedagogy and Philosophy, is Master in Philosophy of Education from PUC-SP, a PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and an associate professor at the University of Campinas. Currently, Gadotti is retired from the Faculty of Education of the USP and is an honorary president of the Paulo Freire Institute, where he has worked since 1991. In this interview with Ismar Soares, the author performs a historical recovery of the trajectory of Paulo Freire, with whom he shared a long friendship. Gadotti also reports his impressions on the author and his works, explaining how the Institute revisits Paulo Freire when thinking future education from Freire’s praxis.Moacir Gadotti completou 80 anos em outubro deste ano em plena atividade. O professor é licenciado em pedagogia e filosofia, mestre em filosofia da educação pela PUC-SP, doutor em ciências da educação pela Universidade de Genebra, na Suíça, e livre-docente pela Universidade de Campinas.
