What do these words mean?: A qualitative approach to explore oral health literacy in Vietnamese immigrant mothers in Australia

    No full text
Objective: This study, nested within a large cohort study, sought to explore how well Vietnamese mothers with pre-school children understood the dental health education material commonly available in New South Wales, Australia. Design: Qualitative research. Setting: Home-based interviews. Method: Vietnamese-speaking mothers (n = 24) with young children were provided with two dental leaflets which gave advice on health behaviours in English and Vietnamese for comparison. Interviews were recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using a thematic coding. Results: Mothers generally reported that the English leaflets were difficult to read due to their lower levels of English literacy skills. Although the mothers preferred leaflets in their native language, they noted that it did not completely reflect the Vietnamese culture. Mothers recommended pictorial presentations for immigrants to improve understanding. Conclusions: The consistency of our findings suggest that health education leaflets should be provided to parents in their first language with use of illustrations to improve understanding, and that producers of health education leaflets should consider cultural differences in translation.Amit Arora, Deon Nguyen, Quang Vinh Do, Bao Nguyen, Glen Hilton, Loc Giang Do and Sameer Bhol

We report a new provincial record of Fejervarya moodiei (Taylor, 1920) Crab-eating Frog, from Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. Four specimens—two adult males and two adult females—were collected from mangrove forests of Da Loc Commune, Hau Loc District. Morphological characteristics of these specimens are described and accompanied by ecological observations and an assessment of potential threats to the species in Da Loc Commune

Feasibility of Agile Manufacturing for the interior vision of 2025

Agile manufacturing is a method of integration where organisation, people andtechnology act as a whole. The NS has proposed an interior vision for 2025. The goalof this thesis is to “assess the feasibility of Agile Manufacturing for the interior visionof 2025”. Is the application of Agile Manufacturing feasible within the organisationNS? Are the application costs realistic for the company? Moreover, are the changes toadapt agile production desirable within the organisation? To answer these questions, extensive research has been done which has been divided into four main chapters inthis report: Discover, Design, Develop and Deploy. The Discover phase consists of a thorough analysis of the subject by doing desktopresearch, field research, interviews and more methods to thoroughly analyse thesubject. Requirements were based on the discovery and the norms regarding thesafety of the EU. Multiple interviews and brainstorming sessions were held withexperts of different backgrounds,The Design phase focused on the technological aspect of Agile Manufacturing. Therefore, with a focus on Digitalisation, Fabrication and Design automation, multipleideas where created. This resulted in an App and two demonstrations that weredeveloped in the development phase. In the Develop phase, the App was designed and programmed to give designers andengineers a quick tool to process different manufacturing techniques, including mosttypes of 3D printing. The two demonstrations were made to exploit the possibilities within a type of production. Laser cutting and CFF ( Continuous Fiber Fabrication)were chosen to press the benefits. The App and two demonstrators were tested onNS employees for their desirability. The Deploy phase resulted that the App was well desired. However, more developmentis needed to make the App work properly. The Laser cut demonstrator needed moredesign attention with regards to aesthetics and comfort. The CFF demonstrator wasnot desirable due to its price. Future developments that make 3D printing cheaper, ecological and quicker to produce would regain their interest.Integrated Product Desig

Effects of international gold market on stock exchange volatility: evidence from asean emerging stock markets

    No full text
This paper examines behaviors of returns and volatility of ASEAN emerging stock markets (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam), incorporating with the effects from the international gold market. The estimates of GARCH(1,1) and GJR(1,1) for these stock markets indicate that the GJR(1,1) model is preferred to GARCH(1,1), except Vietnam. However, under the exogenous effects from international gold market such as the 1 day lagged returns and the 1 day lagged volatility of gold, the GARCH(1,1)-X model captures better stock market volatility behavior than GJR(1,1)-X, except Indonesia. Interestingly, gold could be a substitute commodity for stocks in Vietnam and the Philippines, while it could be a complement for stocks in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.Volatility, GARCH-X, Gold effects, ASEAN emerging stock markets

COST–EFFICIENCY ANALYSIS OF COOLING FAN OPERATION IN A 100 W PEM FUEL CELL SYSTEM

    No full text
Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) are regarded as a clean energy source with high efficiency, low operating temperature, and low emissions, making them increasingly applied in various fields. However, the system’s performance is significantly affected by cooling conditions, particularly the operating mode of the cooling fan. In this study, a 100W PEMFC system connected to a 1Ω resistive load was experimentally tested under different fan supply voltages of 0V, 5V, 10V, 15V, 20V, and 24V. Operating parameters such as temperature, pressure, hydrogen flow rate, and output power were recorded to analyze the impact of fan speed on the electrical efficiency of the system. The experimental results demonstrate that optimized cooling fan operation significantly improves the cost efficiency of the 100 W PEM fuel cell system. By reducing auxiliary power consumption while maintaining stable operating temperatures, the net electrical efficiency is enhanced and operating costs are minimized. This study confirms that cooling fan management plays a crucial role in improving both technical performance and economic feasibility of PEM fuel cell systems
