COULD JC VIRUS PROVOKE METASTASIS IN COLON CANCER?
No full textAIM: to evaluate the prevalence of John Cunningham Virus (JC virus) in a small cohort of patients with colon cancer and to assess its presence in hepatic metastasis.METHOD: Neneteen consecutive patients with histologically diagnosed colon cancer were included in our study, together with ten subjects affected by histologically and serologically diagnosed hepatitis C virus infection. in the patients included in the colon cancer group, JC virus was searched for the surgical specimen; in the control group, JC virus was searched in the hepatic biopsy. The difference in the prevalence of JC virus in the hepatic biopsy between the two groups was assessed through the X2 test. RESULTS: Four of 19 patients with colon cancer had a positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for JC virus, and four had liver metastasis. Among the patients with liver metastasis, three out four had a positive PCR test for JC virus in the surgical specimen and in the liver biopsy; the only patient with liver metastasis with a negative test for JC virus also presenrted a negative test for JC virus in the surgical specimen. in the control group of patients with hepatitis C infection, none of the ten patients presented JC virus infection in the hepatic biopsy. The difference between the two groups regarding JC virus infection was statistically significant (X2=9.55, P=0,002)

No full textAIMS: To develop a sensitive and specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based system for detecting genomic variation in JC virus. To apply this system to formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded brain tissue from patients with and without progressive multifocal leucoencephalopathy (PML). METHODS: A pair of primers (JC1 and JC2) were designed to be complementary to the early and late regions of JC and BK polyomaviruses, respectively. A third primer (JC3), internal to JC1 and JC2, was designed to be specific for JC virus. The specificity of JC3 was investigated by amplifying plasmids with BK or JC virus genomes. Sensitivity was estimated by titration of a plasmid containing JC virus genome. Seven brains from patients with PML (PMLB) and 30 from patients without PML (non-PMLB) were amplified using JC1 and JC2, followed by JC1 and JC3. Amplification of the beta globin gene was used as an amplification control. RESULTS: Amplification with JC1 and JC2 was common for JC and BK viruses, but with JC1 and JC3 it was specific for JC virus. The sensitivity of the system was 25 copies of JC plasmid per 10 microliters of digested tissue. Five out of seven PMLB and 28 of the 30 non-PMLB amplified for beta globin, but only the PMLB gave a signal with polyoma primers. Hypervariation of the length of the regulatory region of the JC isolates in the PML tissues was consistent with the presence of multiple strains of JC. CONCLUSIONS: Variation in the regulatory region of JC virus can be specifically and sensitively detected from routinely processed, paraffin wax embedded brain tissue. Variation in the regulatory region is common in PML derived JC strains, but JC virus was not detectable in non-PMLB tissue
Absence of Simian virus 40, BK, and JC polyomavirus DNA in squamous cell carcinoma limited to the oral cavity
No full textBACKGROUND.: Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are among the most aggressive types of cancer. The Simian virus 40 (SV40), which is a polyomavirus known for its oncogenic potential, was found as a contaminant of oral vaccines and has been related to human pleomorphic adenoma in the parotid gland. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of SV40 and 2 human polyomaviruses-BK virus (BKV) and JC virus (JCV)-in a large sample of SCCs of the oral cavity. METHODS.: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to evaluate virus load. RESULTS.: Overall, the prevalence of SV40, BKV, and JCV in oral SCC was negligible. Matched-pair case-control analysis indicated that prevalence among the controls did not significantly differ with respect to analyzed cases. CONCLUSION.: The results did not indicate a major role for SV40, BKV, and JCV in the etiology of oral SCC

By implementing this system in the jc comp warehouse, it is hoped that it can reduce errors that may occur. this system is also expected to further speed up the process of input, output, and report generation, which in turn will help the jc comp warehouseSistem Informasi Persediaan Barang adalah sebuah sistem yang digunakan untuk memasukkan data-data persediaan barang ke dalam database, sehinggga tidak terjadi kesalahan dalam input, output data, dan pembuatan laporan berdasarkan data yang diinginkan. Dengan adanya Sistem Informasi persediaan barang ini diharapkan dapat bermanfaat bagi bagian gudang Jc Komp. Dengan diterapkannya sistem ini pada bagian gudang Jc Comp, maka diharapkan dapat mengurangi kesalahan-kesalahan yang mungkin terjadi. Amenable L-2-Theoretic Methods and Knot Concordance

As a key ingredient, we develop obstructions using L-2-theoretic methods for amenable groups in Strebel's class recently introduced by Orr and the author. Concerning (h)-solvable knots, which are defined in terms of certain Whitney towers of height h in bounding 4-manifolds, we show the following: for any n>1, there are (n)-solvable but non-(n. 5)-solvable (and therefore nonslice) knots, which are not detected by prior methods using Cochran-Orr-Teichner L-2-signature obstructions as well as Levine algebraic obstructions and Casson-Gordon invariants.X1197sciescopu
Dynamics of Network Formation Processes in the Co-Author Model
No full textThis article studies the dynamics in the formation processes of a mutual consent network in game theory setting: the Co-Author Model. In this article, a limited observation is applied and analytical results are derived. Then, 2 parameters are varied: the number of individuals in the network and the initial probability of the links in the network in its initial state.
